    Great Video!! Very helpful and with some personality!! Is there a way to auto assign a midi channel per note???

      Great question :)
      I dabbled around a bit and this is the best I've got...
      If you go to Preferences -> Mouse modifiers -> Context: MIDI note - > left click... there are two modifiers (that aren't set to anything by default) called "Set note channel lower" and "Set note channel higher" if you bind them to something and then hit your your modifier key(s) when clicking on a note that's already in the midi editor it will change the channel of that note up or down respectively.
      If you're doing this just remember most MPE stuff is going to expect only control messages on channel 1, so consider that off limits when set your note channels.
      Also careful about clicking a note too quickly as it will register as a double click and delete your note.
      Idk if there's a scrips out there that can do this automatically, I found something called "X-Raym_Offset selected MIDI notes channel according to their chords.lua" listed online but was unable to find the script anywhere, could be depreciated or I just didn't have any luck

      @@Unsequestered how do we got the CC lane corresponding per note , is that an option you turn on / off. is it a script? i'm not really understanding cuz i just attempted this in my piano roll and not working for me , i only am getting one CC lane for the whole chord , what did you do to make this work? my Reaper is up to date... edit: you forgot to tell us it's different channel notes again. i get it now..you only really said that once at the first of the Reaper 6 tutorial i can't remember that far back in videos. is very important to add every single detail in tutorials or ppl like me , our brains get broken, lolol thanks for the video. i'm making advanced Reaper tutorials on scripting on my other channel soon.

    Also, one way to describe MPE is to say you can do pedal steel guitar stuff with any sound.

      This MPR feature far excells in other DAWs like Bitwig and Studio One. Even after trying it for a while, it's still painful and unwieldy. But there are definitely things Reaper does no other DAWs at all. Subprojects and Free Items Track. Those two are what makes Reaper special. The coding is amazing too, but that's similar to MAX For Live

    • @IsHeHigh
      @IsHeHigh 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@buckycore reaper is less a daw, and more a professional tool. Its strength is in scripting, which max can't really match at all.

    Very cool, thank you for this. Seeing as I use MIDI a lot, some of these updates are huge. The MIDI pitch snap seems like it could result in some custom yet accurate glissando-like envelopes as well. Basically, it's viable to draw out your whole melody in the CC lane now with a single note in the editor.

  • @Chalisque
    @Chalisque 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    The thing with software synthesizers and everything in the box, is that there is no real reason to tie everything to the midi keyboard paradigm. Each note is an object with its own data. Anything that is per note, such as pitch, waveform, filter cutoff, whatever, could in principle be programmed independent of other notes. I wish someone would come up with a way to make all note parameters addressable. (The old-school example of this was Csound, where you'd program your score by specifying a bunch of parameters per note that depended upon the instrument so far as what they mean.)

    I don't use MPE but occasionally pitch bends and snapping to exact semitone is great. I just wish there was an action to move the selected events up/down and snap. There's a continuous controller/mousewheel action but it is not snapped to semitones.
    They also need to update Event properties window to allow adjusting the pitch cc without the raw values.

    This is a welcome change. I wish they kept the pitch channel centres relative though so that all centres dont line up. Can be a preference/setting. I feel that might be more intuitive to see at a glance on whats happening.

      @Unsequestered  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Same! It felt a bit clunky in that regard. Hope to see little tweaks to improvements as time goes on. With the update frequency and commitment to user input I can definitely see that happening.

    One unrelated question to the video itself: How did you get the waveform display at the bottom of the Window to update what Audio came from reaper? It was showing the Waveform of every word you said and the synth. Looks nice! Is it a script, or does it come with reaper?

    Thanks for the video. We've been asking for this for several years and they finally delivered. So the foundation is there. Now one of the community will have to create a Bitwig style editor. I'd be willing to drop a few bucks on that as I'm sure many of us would.

    No one’s talking about it because not that many people have MPE gear.
    The number of people who do have it compared to those don’t, is infinitesimal at best. Once MPE sees more widespread usage, I’m sure that it will garner quite a bit of conversation among users.

    Awesome vid thank you! ONE question: how did you get each midinote/midichannel to be a different color? Did you just manually change them before making the video or did you automate the color changes somehow?

    • @Unsequestered
      @Unsequestered  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So those notes are actually on different channels because of the MPE. If memory serves me there's a drop down menu on the bottom right corner of the MIDI editor that will let you choose what parameters will color the notes.

      This is just pitch snapping, you can set it to whatever semitone range you wish. I know there are some scripts out there for scale snapping and I believe you can do some rudimentary stuff with stock reaper.
