    I want to say first off, very helpful. Thanks for taking the time. Secondly the rooster is hilarious, my wife came in asking what was so funny. Stellar work and I will have to go see the rest of the series. Just good information to have for someone new to Honda series engines.

      Glad you got a kick out of that. You actually get use to them. I was definitely living on Green Acres back then. Also glad to hear you found the info useful. Thanks for taking a moment to comment!

    Thanks for the video, I took off the balance gear and had problems (clunking/grinding sounds) took it back off lined everything up using the screwdriver (disregarded the timing marks like all the people saying you're wrong, get the shaft balanced with the screwdriver and things will be balanced. Thank You my little honda is right once again

    According to the service manual the notch on the gear flange lines up with the guides you referenced. The line on the gear you referenced lines up with a small line on the oil pump housing. I do believe the way you did it will work just the same as long as you use the same method when Installing the belt.

      Runs fine so I must have got it right. I followed the instructions in the Haynes manual.

      @@ktecgarage The Hanes and service manual don't match up in several areas. I don't think it really matters which timing mark you use for this as long as you use the same mark for both. I stopped using the Hanes manual when I noticed it gave some incorrect torque specs. Your build was solid though and you did a really good job showing it all on video. I had never been inside one of these before and your videos have helped a ton.

      I have a jdm f20b that I just got. when I insert the screw driver. The line you are referencing to on the outter cover gear, on mine the notch on the base of the gear matches up with the marks above. The line on the face of the gear you are referring is in 5 o clock position. My question is when the outer gear cover is put on it does it matter which reference you use on the gear as long as the balance shaft is where it suppose to be.

    I believe the shaft rotates at a different ratio because of the gearing, so each rotation of the outer pulley isn’t one balancer shaft rotation. You should check the alignment with the screwdriver or bolt when setting the timing if I remember correctly.

    • @ktecgarage
      @ktecgarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's 3 to 1. But u still want the marks right. And you are exactly right. Use the bolt/screwdriver when when putting the belts in. I did this in my timing video. Thanks for the comments!

    Once you put the screw driver in the hole doesn't matter if you use the marks to align the pulley. Putting the screw driver in the hole is what makes the alignment. I just did mine just like I said and fired up the engine without a problem. This was my 1st full front engine timing kit replacement.
    If you turn the pulley 180 degrees you can put the screw driver in again. Next time you do the timing again use screw driver not the markings.The markings could have been aligned wrong from previous mechanic. If you yourself take off the gearbox to put a new gasket then is best to align it as the manufacturer recommends.

      I agree with erything said here. I would only add that you should know where the mark on the rear gear is at TDC so you can check all your timing marks after rotating the crank.

    Why does my service manual say your alignment on the balance shaft gear box pulley is wrong. The mark on the gear box housing is to be matched with the dip on edge of pulley and the line goes to 5 O'clock, the diagonal line on oil pump housing.

    • @ktecgarage
      @ktecgarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah. Where the mark on that rear shaft is not as important as the front one is. As long as the back shaft is locked up with a screwdriver when u put the belt on, you will be good. The mark is more to check ur timing after the belt is on and rotated the crank. Thanks for commenting.

    Hello Friend.
    I'm in Brazil and I have a Honda Accord 95 when I disassembled my engine I noticed that the balancing shafts and their bushings are very worn, do you know what is possible to do?
    Sorry I'm using google translator.

    • @ktecgarage
      @ktecgarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! If the shafts are the same as the F23, I would say there are not fixable parts. Ebay for used ones maybe. If they do not rattle in the journals and spin freely, I wouldn't be too concerned about them. Hope that translates into Portuguese!

    I have a 2001 Honda Accord and i have a problem where my motor is leaking alot of oil like if you would to drain your oil like in a oil change , that how bad its leaking by the oil pan under by the belts do you know what it could possibly be

    • @ktecgarage
      @ktecgarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Couple of things. Oil pan, front main seal which would be your oil pump, gear box for your balance shaft or the cam seal. You should pull your timing belt cover and check all these components. Good luck!

      @ktecgarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could you elaborate?

    • @Ter40
      @Ter40 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That indent dash on the outside gear tooth lines up with a raised rib (about 5 o' clock) on the front of the engine. The mark you lined the dash up with is for a "v" notched out of the gear ~160° off the dash

    • @ktecgarage
      @ktecgarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. The whole point of the mark on the back gear is really to check the teeth on the belt aren't off after you rotate it a few times. Someone had marked that gear before I got there and that's how it was when I found it. Screwdriver is the main thing. You can see the sharpie mark on the arm for the spring.

    • @yeelee7778
      @yeelee7778 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Does this mean you just need to "time" the balance shaft and it doesn't matter what orientation you put the front gear on? The only reason to use the front gear marks is to help you line up for timing belt install?

    • @ktecgarage
      @ktecgarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have the marks on the gear right, it helps to make sure everything is still in time when you move it after you get the belts on. If you lock it with the screw driver/bolt your good. I think the confusion is that there are 2 marks on the gear. There is a half moon mark at about 4 o'clock that lines up with a round mark on the oil pump for if you are timing it from under the car.
