My exact thoughts...why drill a hole in the bottom of a perfectly good tank.
I built my heater into a GRP electrical box out of a skip, big enough to take the pump, fuel filter, combustion-air filter, 12v battery and a 40W 13.8V PSU. It was IP67, but I fitted a round louvred vent with gauze to the front. My fuel pipe is 5mm (3/16") copper tube secured by a small cable-gland at the bottom of the box. Fuel tank is a 10L 'AdBlue' container. The flexible pipe between pump and tank is a close fit in the filler-cap, with a 1mm extra hole for the breather. The gap between the heater box and ground is 18", the adblue container is 16" high and shelters under the box. All accessible and easy to fill. No smell, as all the horrible stuff is outside. I love it!
Another way is to drill stand pipe into plastic jerry can an swap ot over with another full drumm when empty. Just an thought. Thats some pretty clear diesel you have over there lol. Take it heating oil or kerosene is too expensive in sweden to run on
Absolutely - there was no way i was going to chance it to gravity. Think my standpipe was few quid off the bay - no brainer! Ringo
I use a 20L gas can jerry can take the funnel out drill a hole in the cap and push the fuel line in works great .
There's so many different options when you bin those crap tanks they come with. I actually use a steel jerry can on the back of my van with a stand pipe in the top
I did this in my van, it just makes sense!
Nice video, Happy New Year to you both.
Great vid wise words thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi Ash, Marie, hope you're both well and enjoying the snow. Happy New Year, too. Good heater advice and a worthwhile upgrade. Stand pipe makes so much more sense than a hole at the bottom of the tank, imo. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and keep up the good work.
Thank you! You too! Yea for sure. As I say, never seen one leak but there's always a first time and that would be hell😆
good vid on channel thanks lee
Nice one Lee 👍
Hey Ash, hope you're well mate. I'm coming over from Australia in February to look at houses to buy in Sweden, and wondered if you would be up for a coffee and a chat? Watched your videos for ages. If not, not stress, more diesel heating videos please :D
Wow that's quite the climate shift from Australia!😆 Sure! If you're in the area👍
Great video advice. I was considering one of these heaters as an extra heat source for our home, but with view of using cooking oil as alternative fuel. I have seen a few people on TH-cam using one this way. Have you not tried it? Waste oil from restaurants etc…. 🤔. Cheers. Guy
I haven't to be honest. Did look into bio diesel at one point but was going to cost more than pump! If I was in the UK I would definitely be using red👍
Cheers ash great advice happy new year how often do you have to clean out diesel heaters if running 24 7 say for 3 months ? cheers in advance
To be fair I should probably clean mine out more often haha! But really, if you burn them hot at least once a day I very rarely have any issues. That's why I run in thermostat mode so every time it dips in temp the unit runs full blast for a few minutes.
@@ash.pollard cheers ash just bought a truma water and heat heater il do the same after the warrenty runs out cheers again
Interesting video Ash, definitely the best way of doing it. Take Care Buddy 🙏
Thanks man! Yea, It just makes more sense
Superb Ash! I'm thinking about a diesel heater for in the house. Do you have any thoughts regarding alternative fuels; WVO etc?
I haven't really experimented with other fuels to be honest as regular diesel is available in out local village
Just wondering if you have not had the heat going for some reason, have you had the diesel wax solid? That was a problem I faced in very cold weather years ago, when the depots vans fuel tanks froze and they wouldn't run.
Never had an issue but the pump fuel here is arctic diesel so has additives to handle these temperatures
Your modified fuel tank how long would it last on setting 1 = low setting ?
I normally use thermostat mode set at 10c and depending on outside temp will last just over 1 week
😊great vid Ash. I need a bigger tank, mines only lasting 3 days. Happy New Year to you both. ❤
