  • Hi Guys,
In today’s episode we install our Chinese diesel heater into our brand new SRT22F Snowy River Caravan.
This is the third diesel heater Aaron has ever installed, and we would say the best installation yet!
We have linked the products below that we purchased to make this install possible!
    Exhaust Wrap - www.amazon.com.au/Exhaust-Res...
    Gutter Pop - www.bunnings.com.au/fielders-...
    Silicone - www.bunnings.com.au/selleys-3...
The heater we purchased was $84.90 but looks like it’s gone up since we bought it.

Hi, can you tell us how the heater goes please. Does it heat the van well? Would you need to keep it going all night do you think or could you warm the van up earlier and turn it off when going to sleep? Love the idea of it being so cheap and the tick probs wouldnt bother us as I have hearing aids that come out when i go to bed obviously so probs wouldnt hear it if it is not too loud.

The heater goes great, we aren’t fussed with the ticking at all either! You won’t hear it at all if you are taking out hearing aids to sleep 😂 Weise it to heat and then turn it off when sleeping, sometimes we will wake in the early hours when it’s very cold and turn it on via the remote from bed and sleep for a couple of hours with it on so the van is super toasty when we wake up. Important message to take away from this is make sure you have a carbon monoxide alarm as this is an alarm that senses the silent killer and wakes you up!

Do you get smoke out the back when it starts up and does it has a ticking noise inside the van

On the very first start up there's a bit of burn off smoke, however hasn't smoked since. Yes there's a slight tick, but we aren't bothered.

IMO, i don’t feel confident that the diesel tank which is just being held by 3 or 4 screws will hold. Especially when the tank is loaded with diesel and the van is subjected to vibration/corrugation. When I did ours, I placed the tank on the rear bumper. It’s been 3yrs now and still no issues

Yeh ive seen a few others mount where we did and haven't had issues. Although I am also considering a base plate for additional support.

@@thewilsonstakeonoz True. Seen few of them but all that I have seen are the tank is mounted on a vertical back. Whereas yours got an angle. That means there are 2 forces that will be acting on the screws, pull out and shear forces. If mounted on vertical surface, it will just be shear force acting on screws.
