    I also have an R7 mako. It is unfortunate the issues that you have had with your version. Mine has functioned flawlessly and was not part of the recall. I currently own various versions of the p365, hellcat, shield plus, Glock 43x,etc. Mako is by far my favorite. I love the ambidextrous controls, trigger, grip texture, capacity, and recoil impulse. I feel it is the most well rounded option available. Many will discount it because of the recall, but they are missing out.

    Hi- I actually provided the video to 2A Edu on the BB6, with Wilhelm's permission to share it. I am glad to see you sharing the reputation of Wilhelm Bubits. It is well deserved. He is now in retirement but still having fun with pistols and pistol design. It looks like his son may be picking up the torch so we may see more from the Bubits name. Bubits did not work for Glock as an employee, he was an independent consultant/designer, same with Steyer and the others. He has been an independent consultant and designer all along and not an employee. He has about 100 patents as you say, many of which have been licensed and or sold, so you will see many of his features in various modern pistols from various major manufacturers. I am glad to see you make a fair assessment of some of the design features while admitting there might be more you don't know about. Very fair and honest. The take-down and magazine catch are the same as the BB6 as well by the way. If we ever meet, I would be happy to let you examine and compare my BB6 with the Mako. I think if you shoot it, you will be impressed. The last BB6 I saw on Gunbroker was listed for $1,200.00 IIRC, so they have apparently rapidly become collectible. Right now, there are only spare magazines listed and they are not inexpensive. I bought spare magazines, and a spare recoil rod/spring and for anybody that has a BB6, they are crazy if they don't grab some spares even at stiff prices. I shoot my BB6 and occasionally carry it, it is not a range toy. I spoke to the man that imported those magazines and he is a Bubits fan. Again, thank you for spreading Bubits' reputation and making fair observations of his design points.

      I am very humbly doing the best I can, I know that it isn't the best assessment of his work but I feel that he deserves much more recognition than he has received.

    I bought a Mako for my wife and she loves it, super accurate and carries so much nicer than her Glock 26 and she seems to shoot 50% tighter groups with the R7. I have to try carrying this pistol sometime. I have shot it and it gives me groups as good as my 45 trophy match at the same distances, that is impressive to me

    BUBITS GANG! Thanks for giving credit to the underrated genius. The Steyr M9, Caracal F and the BB6 are amazing guns, especially the Steyr. I'm inclined at this point to think Bubits was the real genius behind the Glock 17. Cheers!

      @@LWRoad I don’t know of any time frame, but 2A edu does a good video on him and graham bates on TH-cam did a review on his bb6. The way the slide comes off i think is a bubits design and the TS9 and TX22, Arex delta all come off like the BB6 does. The flat top slide is a bubits thing also. Bubits has his inspiration in these pistols for sure, but I don’t know that to be fact though.

    You overlooked two key features. One, the advantage of the low tilt barrel is smoother more reliable feeding with the nose of the round pointing at the chamber mouth rather than climbing up a feed ramp. Two, the ultra tall extractor claw for smooth controlled feeding, extraction, and ejection. I own a Bubits designed Taurus TS9 which passed a grueling 20,000 round torture test and has been adopted by multiple international police, military, and special ops forces. I highly recommend it. It’s compatible with TH9 17rd mags.

  • @skullylluks

    Love the educational vid! New Mako owner and a steel case US made 124gr fmj squib almost ruined my life days ago. But I digress. The Mako is my first micro edc vs a Ruger American Pistol PD for the last 3yrs. Huge learning curve in performance manipulation on grip. That 3.44 inch barrel is quite snappy. That's right, 3.44 not 3.37. I've confirmed with Kimber via email that the manual provided is correct, on page 18, and the website is wrong. So far this Mako shoots tight groups with Norma 108gr MHP ammo. Dislikes NATO 124gr fmj but I'll work on that since I've trained mostly with 124gr. What defensive rounds are working best for other Mako owners? Stay safe y'all!

    scrubbing the video feed, I don't see mention of it, but if you look around Bubit's company Bubix has announced a new gun this year, the Bubix Bro, which from what I can tell is a 12 round micro compact which has some rather novel design decisions, most notably a grip safety on the FRONT strap, and the same locking system found in the Mako and and the BB6.
    Actually, looking at the Bubix Bro again it might actually be that the Mako and Bro were developed from the exact same prototype.
    As you have a Mako (and I still haven't found a range with one for rent yet) have you experienced any concerns over blocking the ejection port when firing it lefty? I really liked how it felt in my hand, but I have concerns that as a left handed guy i could end up inducing a FTE pretty easily.

    • @LWRoad
      @LWRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have seen the Bro, I have it on the list to do a video on. Interesting, I have shot it left handed and have not induced a malfunction. I'll try it next time intentionally to test it out

    Much of what your saying has sound logic. But, it looks pretty snappy in your hands when your shooting it, and the pistol had to go back to the manufacturer for debris in the action. I'm aware the debris could have already been there, but one negative thing about tighter tolerances in a firearm is that the smallest spec of dirt can sometimes foul the action. And unless I misunderstood, you had to send it back 2 additional times, in addition to there now being a recall. I think I'll stay with my Glocks, at least until Kimber gets the kinks worked out, and they've had a couple of years to prove themselves dependable enough to trust my life with.

    • @LWRoad
      @LWRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just once and the recall. But yeah good point about tolerances that’s very true. However out of the two Glocks I own I had to send my G34 in for service too as the receiver was too wide and wouldn’t seat a magazine correctly. So it happens to all companies. Good strategy to wait a while, appreciate you watching👍🏽

      @LUNGSlikeKlRBY you weren't in 'nam with me. We would grab every AK we could get our hands on. What is your real world experience with either of these guns? I wish you had been there. It did get a lil better in '69 when they chromed the barrel and put a forward assist on it. Go back to those days and circumstances. Also, all the fancy bolt ons were worthless in the jungle terrain.
