I opened mine up and changed the thermal paste of the CPU, now it’s way quieter.
It was surprising because the application of the original thermal paste was gross, it spilled out of the CPU and hardly covered it. I recommend anyone having issues with their loud PS4 to open it and replace the thermal paste. It’s not extremely hard, just follow a tutorial and your PS4 will be good as new.

I have the og version aswell and apparently it’s a lot more complex to take apart compared to the pro and I don’t wanna break it😂

I’ve cleaned my PS4 however as soon as I start up call of duty MW it just overheard and switches off straight away

Call of Duty MW seems to be one of the biggest culprits for PS4 overheating as of recent. Personally, I’ve never played any other game that required my fan to blow so loud so constantly. If you haven’t yet, you may want to delete and reinstall MW fresh so that it doesn’t switch off right away. Also make sure everything’s up to date.
John Hammer I’ve found a solution, whilst your waiting for it too find a match go into gunsmith and preview the weapon, the PS4 won’t overheat however the fan will still be loud. By waiting on the PREVIEW LOADOUT screen there’s less things running in the background which won’t cause the PS4 too shut down

For me, I think the vertical stand ia much better than not using a stand, cause using the vertical stand makes more surface area exposed to surrounding air like a convection from air which can make it more cooler compared to just laying it on flat, what I am trying to say is there is more convection going on on the surfaces of the unit which means there is greater heat transfer going on, bcause I believe the ambient air would be much more cooler than the inside parts..
I’ve literally had the PS4 pro for one year. Used it six times and it started that overheating shit! And from what I’m reading this is a very widespread issue. Something that cost that much should not perform like this. I’ve also owned both versions of the Xbox. I have never had any issues with them! Anyone else going through this, or am I the only one?

I have the vertical stand that has fans in it , plus an additions stand fan next to it . makes a lot of difference it doesn't heat up as it did before
I don't have a ps4 yet but when I bought a stand to put my ps3 in a vertical position it made a HUGE difference in the temperature of the console. When you leave your console horizontally the space between the console and the table or furniture its on is very small and the heat can't dissipate well but putting your console in a vertical position fixes that big time.
There's a video that shows the temperature literally doesn't change with external fans.
The PS3 is very quiet if you install an SSD.
I confirm that the stands with the fans work! My PlayStation was getting a bit louder than usually and so I got the fan and it helps the fan quiet down a bit and also keeps it from over heating
its august and this was made in may. And this still replying to people who comment down below. I Like that, keep grinding. there are youtubers who don't reply after like a week

After my new PS4 Slim's first five days of life with me, I decided to replace its original drive with 1TB SSD because it was hot as flat iron, and it loads like ridiculous 1 to 3 hours. Now, it feels warm to touch, and it loads faster. Plus, I installed detachable cooling fan on the back of it. The upgrade that I did was like buying disc version of PS5 already. I'll give PS5 a pass for now because getting it is like going to a destination where a vertical cliff is only way to get there. The moment PS4 stops working after 4 to 5 years, I will buy PS5 or PS6, instead of repair. My PS4 Slim is a gift to myself, in memory of pandemic. 😁😄😆🤣😘🤭 I bought it last November 15, 2020.

I’ll probably buy a PS5 when my PS4 gets weak and has issues. I won’t be able to fix it since I tend to mess up a lot when opening things. I ruin stuff and then they don’t function as they’re meant to be so I’ll keep my PS4 the way it is and will get a PS5 if it breaks probably or something
I've had my PS4 for 5 years and its never overheated. I've had my PS3 for 13 years and it's still running like it did the day I bought it.

Never heard my Xbox one x even once when playing a game. As soon as I turn on my PS4 pro all hell breaks loose. I put more thermal compound that didn't help much. It seems that modern warfare really pushes the PS4 to the limit

If you use a sideway stand for your PS4 Pro it is a good idea to have a stand with fans, Amazon sells many stands with fans.
My PlayStation never overheats because I don't download anything I always keep it a sometimes when I'm playing a video game.
Another big reason is you need to eventually change the thermal paste and completely take it apart to actually clean out the heatsink!!!
Another problem for overheating is within the heat sync inside the console my sons ps4 sounded like a fighter jet taking off to the point where is was actually telling him to turn off ps4 as its too hot I opened it up to see all the dust and crap built up round the heat sync I cleaned it all out with compressed air and see the thermal paste on the chips and heat sync was virtually gone aside from some residue
I purchased some arctic silver 5 thermal paste recoated what was needed put back together his ps4 and it's working as new and the fan is very quite now and is warm as expected
There is a vertical with extra fans it is amazing 100% recommend it. It keeps the ps4 soooooo cooolll

Great video. I don't have a vertical stand but what I do is get maybe 3 or 4 of my ps4 game case or can use any DVD cases and stack them on top of each other and put my ps4 on top of them. The size of the cases are good because they sit in the middle underneath the console without blocking any vents. So like you said about giving the console enough room to have good air flow all around and underneath. Has plenty room to breath. Thanks for your videos and tips. God Bless

I've noticed many in the comment section pointing out the issue of dust buildup to others in the comment section of this video. Dust buildup will, for obvious reasons, cause the system to overheat. Make sure to clean the dust out of both the fan and heatsink (at least) to make sure the transfer of heat is successful when the system is reassembled. I've seen a few mention thermal paste replacement as well, which is also good. If you're not confident enough to disassemble your system, find a friend or family member who can hopefully do it for you.
Two things you really shouldn't do, in my opinion:
(1) Have anything that is literally "stacking" on top of your console. Like John Hammer in the video mentioned, too much stacking could trap heat but too much stacking could also apply too much pressure on the inner hardware of your console. Doesn't make a lot of sense to have anything stacking on a console with inside hardware so sensitive to damage, just saying.
(2) Do not put your console or any console just sitting in a cabinet somewhere. Put your console in an open-spaced area somewhere so that it has plenty of space to both breathe and not accumulate too much dust. People who just leave their consoles in cabinets and shortly later wonder why their system sounds like a "jet engine" so quickly, reevaluate where you're placing your system and perhaps where else your system should be relocated. Leaving your console in a cabinet will only cause the inside of it to accumulate dust at a faster rate.
I've had my ps4 since 2018 and this is just now happening. Even when I don't play a game it overheats and turns off.

I think placing ps4 on the floor so it absorbs he heat passively, plus the air temperature is lower on the floor
My PS4 starts being loud when I'm in the Title screen of games like Marvel's Spider-Man and like 5 Minutes after, my PS4 Gives me the overheating warning. I put it vertical and I cleaned it and nothing is close to it

Its really not that hard. Keep it as far away from walls in a well vented area, near a open window if possible and done. And every hour just let your ps4 sit in rest mode for 5 mins to bring them temps down

Cheaper way to do it is open up the system and replace the thermal paste. Also clean the fan and the heat sink as well. Your system will breathe much better and will have a stable gameplay

My PS4 Pro lies flat on the shelf, I think I might raise it up. The 2018 Spider-man game makes the fans run so loud in a building or any other interior scene that my dogs get scared and bark at it!
My ps display the same message “its hot...” and then it turns off when im playing genshin impact, im using and external hard drive so it’s not even a game that i have installed on the ps. What should i do?
Even though it’s on an external HDD I would still delete and reinstall the game fresh on case there’s any error code that’s backing up in the system software.
The funny thing is: im watching this video for a friend trying to help him. I have no clue what's going on because I have a xbox one since a few years and its extremely quiet and never overheated, so I don't even have experience. That's great! Keep an eye that it doesn't happen again, and be sure to give the fans on your Slim enough space in the back away from any walls, obstacles, or other entertainment boxes.
My ps3 & PS4 don’t overheat per say but the fans do tend to ramp up and down with both systems even after fully disassembling both and cleaning and reapplying new thermal paste. An easy fix which I just applied was puting little feet to raise the bottom of the systems up from the desk they are sitting on, super inexpensive and easy way to fix my particular problem.
My PS3 is dead quiet since I’ve installed an SSD inside it. I didn’t put it into my PS4 since the storage amount was too small and it was a spare. My original HDD for my PS4 still runs fine. I only installed an SSD into my PS3 since the original Hard Drive died.

When I turn my ps4 I’m cool but if I’m playing a game where it takes a lot of energy I set my fan up so it’s facing it and it keeps cool..
Try deleting and reinstalling the game
Also blow out the dust once in a while with either a leaf blower, or a vacuum cleaner in blow mode.

I used 12 lego blocks, 3 near each corner to raise my ps4 up I also had the PS4 moved at a distance from the wall and angled in relation to the wall years ago. Now I have a metal stand that was laying around to raise the PS4 up even further.
Remember Sony says do not put any of it's consoles in a verticle position as this can cause disc damage.

Honestly, I feel like the best solution would be, putting your ps4 vertical and instead of blowing air into the ps4, get like a small fan and put it backwards towards the back of the ps4 so the extra fan is like an extra exhaust for the ps4 and it’ll help push air out

My PS4 (which btw is the original 2013 one, my dad bought it in that year) is in a place which is boxed up. It gets hot quite quickly and I figured out that it was happening because since it was in a boxed up place, the back is very close to a wall. Right now, I cannot move it. But, in like 3 weeks I will be able to move it (probably). Wish me luck guys!
For me the problem is that, my PS4 works fine until I open Ace combat 7 (44 GB). The game is even updated. When I play for 4 minutes, I get the notifications for overheating. Then when I open fifa 23(43 GB), it doesn’t over heat. I don’t know what’s the reason behind that.
Did you find a solution for it? I'm currently dealing with thr exact same problem. AC7 Is the only game on my ps4 that makes it display the overheating message.

For real! And yes, with a mere 1 TB (nowadays) I did have to delete games so that I could fit the massive size of Call of Duty, the multiplayer, Warzone, and ALL its constant updates to date. I will certainly be publishing an upcoming video on my experiences from this soon!

Got the 7215b i changed the thermal paste on the apu used mx-5 and the tinny thermal pads on the ram to same size cuts all by ARCTIC‘s looks like it's running better than before!
i have mine raised up off of my table....
(put four stacks of hundad dolla bills under the PS4 to raise it up off the table)
and have a floor fan behind it constantly blowing cool air into the vents...I've had mine since 2016 and it's never overheated....
My PS4 overheats when I play games but the funny thing is I can play Apex Legends for as long as I want but when I try to play any other games it overheats within 20-30 mins

Nice! Be careful not to blow air directly into the vent opening as that can push dust further into the internal components of the console.
