Hi, just watched this. I live here in Barrow and I love it here. I think it’s a great town. The town centre is on the up with lots of positive upcoming changes. The reason why the town centre was quiet because it was Monday and a wet/windy day. Most people are at work, school or college. I feel safer living here than I do when I go to Manchester or anywhere else. The people are kind and friendly. Maybe come back on a weekend when it’s nicer weather. You didn’t stop to admire the beautiful building that is the town hall (opposite the forum). There’s lots of stunning places here. The big park. Furness Abbey. Any of the beaches that surround Barrow and Walney. There’s the Dock Museum. We have the football who are doing great in league two and the rugby. Plus more.
I lived in Lancaster for 3 years at college and missed Barrow so much. I’m working on a video showcasing how beautiful Barrow is and I’m proud to be a Barrovian.

You were looking at the worst side of barrow Lee. I live in barrow and I can confirm the town centre is not a true reflection of the town. I run a business that is dependent on the property market, I’m also a landlord, so I’m aware of the reality of the town.
The high street in every industrial town will look the same as barrow, it’s just a product of modern shopping habits.
Young first time buyers used to live in 2 up ,2 downs , now they buy houses with gardens and driveways further away from the town centre , so those houses near the centre are mainly rentals with tenants who have no other choice.
If you drive half a mile from the centre, it’s a completely different story. There is money in barrow, you just wouldn’t think so by walking through the town centre.
As a side note, my wife and I walked through the centre after midnight Saturday, we’d been to a charity evening at forum 28, we didn’t get mugged , barrow is less dangerous than a lot of towns.

In Blackpool, they are given a 4 star hotel, fed and given an allowance each week to spend while across road are ex-army service-men living homeless in a shop doorway!... This country has quite literally gone to the dogs.

Probably not! The problem is everyone is shopping online now. This is why shops are shutting and small businesses are struggling

Wow! What an interesting video . Really open, honest interviews that you wouldn’t find on conventional TV. Sadly much of the U.K. is like this - affluent market towns with coffee shops and independent boutiques lying next to towns like this, with bankrupt councils and nothing being done. It’s all over the U.K. It’s shameful. Great video tho!

All these illegal immigrants should be booted out, and the hotels etc given over to all our homeless, a lot of whom are damaged ex services. What makes things worse is when the council block all the streets off, and make them into pedestrian precincts. Great for the pedestrians, but it means that the shops cannot get supplies in - except at silly-o-clock, and who is going to employ staff to work nights in a shop, just to take deliveries in?

Lee, I live on the north shore of Long Island in an area known as the Gold Coast. It's a very affluent area but despite that, a good percentage of retail stores are empty. There is absolutely no crime here. We are covered by county police, state police, and several village police departments because our town is made up of nine incorporated villages. I think the retail spaces are mostly empty for several reasons. The landlords are so wealthy, they don't care if their spaces are empty because they just take the tax write offs when they can't rent the space. They're also charging too much for the spaces to rent. Small stores can't compete with the big box stores and online stores, especially Amazon. Also, people prefer convenience of online shopping.
As far as your commentary on homeless, I am not sure what you're specifically talking about, I assume it's some commentary about foreigners live in publicly paid for housing. Here in the US, many of the homeless are living on the streets because they suffer from mental illness. They actually prefer to live on the streets and when public housing is offered, they often refuse and stay homeless. A lot of our homelessness crisis stems all the way back to the Reagan era when he closed most of the mental health facilities across the country. That was one of his biggest blunders. People don't want to spend their tax dollars helping people with mental illness which is absolutely revolting.

With jobs and wages given to out-of-town contractors, the locals don't have the means to support the service economy. And if the contractors are sending their pay to other places, the contractors have no skin in the game and don't support the local economy other than what they pay out in rent. What the city councils need to do is have some leverage on these contractor-based companies to get locals hired. City governments need policy support up the government chain of command that stops companies from gutting towns.

Most of the jobs in Bae are highly skilled and if they can't get the right people locally what are they to do?..Perfectly OK for workers from round here going up to Sellafield contracting though and pinching work from the West Cumbria locals.

You've given the town a very unfair view, it really is a great place to live and some of the shops you showed have relocated elsewhere in the town like the estate agents and the Expressions shop who have both moved into bigger building's, you picked the most awful day to come to Barrow and never showed the good side of Barrow like some of the amazing views in the area, finally I moved back to the town after living 26 years down South and feel much safer compared to a big city, if you ever comeback I'd suggest you do some homework on Barrow before giving it a negative review and explore the town further.

Hello Lee - I think you have a new mission in life, with our outlying towns and villages!
I lived in Ulverston and worked in Barrow for about 5 1/2 years in the early nineties and your video shocked me. My last memories of the town are of a busy bustling centre with most of the big superstores represented and a well used railway link. If you wanted big ticket items then Liverpool, Manchester were the norm, but what you are showing is decay from lack of care for the local people. We can all see this taking place the length and breadth of the country. High streets, decimated property prices escalating out of reach, combined with rampant crime and inflation.
Meanwhile some of our own people live on the streets, but migrants live in relative luxury and still complain while our elected officials line their pockets and dream up more and more ways to waste our tax monies on things like HS2, Elizabeth line, foreign aid etc etc.
We need to elect a government that is willing to spend money on deprived areas not just list the areas and give false promise but to actually DO SOMETHING TO HELP OUR OWN PEOPLE!

Someone like me who has lived within the Barrow area all their life and for someone who doesnt even know it is a shipyard industry town that comes here and depresses the place even more so with your content. I can safely say, it is not the best town in the country, but it is certainly not what the "clickbait title" states...
All small towns up and down the country will have a suffering high street with not enough people in them nevemind police! And dont get me started with the imigrants we continue to get housed here.
If you look at the bigger picture, Barrow is a prime example of how much of a mess this country is in, not just the UK's most dangerous town ... Oh and it definitely must of been a Sunday because the town centre is never that deserted with all that being said🤦🤷

I'll tell you what Macmaster ..... You can say what you want about Barrow In Furness, but if you saw anything on the TV recently about the day we welcomed over 46,000 bikers into our little town to celebrate the life if Dave Myers you'll know that it's not actually as bad as you say. People were generously offering gardens for camping and spare rooms for any bikers who couldn't find a hotel or b&b. They were even offering free food the next morning to fill them up before their return journeys. And do you know what's even better?? Not a single motorbike was stolen and not one bit of trouble broke out (astonishing really if Barrow is the most crime ridden town in the UK!!).
So no Macmaster, I don't think you know Barrow that well at all!!! There's a reason why Dave Myers was so proud of his hometown, and unfortunately it's something you'll never understand unless you're Barrovian born and bred!!

Britain's longest cul-de-sac....had the misfortune of having to visit this dump many times over several decades and it's only ever got worse.
Many councils blame the internet on the decline of their towns rather than their own incompetence , plenty of Northern towns like Bury and Chorley still thriving.
Barrow used to be in Lancashire as did my home town but back in '74 the reshuffle saw many towns displaced.

It's sickening what is going on and being allowed to go on in this country. I talk to people about it all the time and it gets our blood boiling. They brand us as this, that and the other but we're evidently the most welcoming, too much so, and least racist country on the planet to still be sitting back whilst all of this goes on. Elsewhere there would've been a huge uprising by now.
Instead of the coffee you should've bought the homeless guy a tin of Ronseal, an orange life jacket and told him to put an accent on, the government would then roll out the red carpet for him.

What a sad video about a city in wealthy Great Britain. I may not be British (I'm Dutch) but even I have looked in amazement at this deserted city with abandoned shophouses and a probably British man who once had a job and slept in a bed in his own house and now sleeps under a plastic sheet . As a Dutch person, it even made me sad. In the Netherlands, people from far away who have never paid taxes in the Netherlands or worked there are also accommodated in luxury hotels with baths and showers and food and drinks, while a large group of Dutch people have to go to the food bank and cannot always pay their rent and gas bills. . Even some people with jobs have to go to a food bank. The world and our politicians worldwide have gone completely crazy. It can make me angry. Help all your own people first and then offer help to others. But I'm not allowed to say this in public these days. Thanks for this sad video and maybe politics will wake up, I hope so! Greetings, Rick from the Netherlands

I have been a taxi driver on nights and have never seen a gang in my life. Population 65000 and soon 17000 will be in the shipyard and if you can't get a job it's because you don't want one. You are taking the piss. I suppose it gets you views.

Come to Brierley Hill Lee. A once great town with great shops now it’s just full of fast food joints and dodgy criminals. The bank was even used as a place to grow cannabis and you certainly wouldn’t want to walk through there at night. Even the police centre is closing down..

The Rwanda Plan. You're having a laugh. Immigration has gone up tenfold under The Tories and has got worse since the idiots voted for Brexit. You do know there have been more arrive from Rwanda than have been sent, one up to now and he got paid to go. They are dividing us, it suits their agenda. FFS wake up.

WOW! After reading that article to us. Painting a picture of such grim, dark danger filled streets. Crime running wild. Drugs. Violence is everywhere. Local police losing the daily battle. The local members of the town, the poor general public have they not suffered enough? And then you turn up 😭😖😣😱Watching you walk through the town, it's like a scene from a post apocalypse movie. Barrow is a beach? 🏖️🤔. Interesting views from the elderly lady. Young people hanging around on street corners, they always have. Late 50s early 60's the old cry " nothing to do around here😥😢" A round up. Firstly, to you Lee, who knew you had such depth. This was by far the best video I have seen on your channel. Bloody well done 👍👌I think, your unspoken thoughts are shared by many in the country. Sadly I fear, we have lost the plot. And I can't see the script changing any time soon. We were Great Britain, the United Kingdom, The British Isles. We gave aid and assistance around the world. We still donate £millions each year. But for far too many years now we have been the soft touch, and allowed our selves to be S. H. 1. Tee apon 💩💩it's gotta stop. We must start to say NO!! Set laws and policies. Force them through. Ignore the " upper chamber(the Lords)" And listen to the people. Like you, no funny outrow. Allan and family

Lee this is one of the worstvideo blogs on my home town I have ever seen. Maybe you should come back and visit Furness Abbey, the Dock Museum, Walney Island and Barrow park to see the decent side of the town rather than filming empty shops(a lot of which have now been repurposed as new businesses)

Homeless, wait till you come to America again, we have homeless by the thousands in some cities, some live in cars, others live outside shops, its never one, its always 20-50 or more, its the same at the off ramps of the interstates, tents everywhere, some people lay on the ground, every town has homeless here, its disgraceful.

Same in our home town Lee, and its a disgrace, the British homeless including out veterans are left to rot of the street, and illegal immigrants are prioritised and are housed in hotels paid for us the taxpayer. No wonder they are attracted here, with free housing, food and heating, while during our winter many of our pensioners have to choose between heat or eat. Governments just don't appear to care.
