- I Visit The UK’s most DANGEROUS TOWN where the High Street is DUBBED DEATH ROW!
'WELCOME TO HELL' Inside a drug-plagued town where high street is dubbed ‘death row’ & police say tackling rampant gangs is like ‘whack-a-mole’
More than half its central shopping street is boarded up, and many of the windows that remain are cracked - offering a splintered view of graffiti, broken fire extinguishers and rubbish strewn inside abandoned shops.
This has to be Britain's WORST Town!

You were looking at the worst side of barrow Lee. I live in barrow and I can confirm the town centre is not a true reflection of the town. I run a business that is dependent on the property market, I’m also a landlord, so I’m aware of the reality of the town.
The high street in every industrial town will look the same as barrow, it’s just a product of modern shopping habits.
Young first time buyers used to live in 2 up ,2 downs , now they buy houses with gardens and driveways further away from the town centre , so those houses near the centre are mainly rentals with tenants who have no other choice.
If you drive half a mile from the centre, it’s a completely different story. There is money in barrow, you just wouldn’t think so by walking through the town centre.
As a side note, my wife and I walked through the centre after midnight Saturday, we’d been to a charity evening at forum 28, we didn’t get mugged , barrow is less dangerous than a lot of towns.
Hi, just watched this. I live here in Barrow and I love it here. I think it’s a great town. The town centre is on the up with lots of positive upcoming changes. The reason why the town centre was quiet because it was Monday and a wet/windy day. Most people are at work, school or college. I feel safer living here than I do when I go to Manchester or anywhere else. The people are kind and friendly. Maybe come back on a weekend when it’s nicer weather. You didn’t stop to admire the beautiful building that is the town hall (opposite the forum). There’s lots of stunning places here. The big park. Furness Abbey. Any of the beaches that surround Barrow and Walney. There’s the Dock Museum. We have the football who are doing great in league two and the rugby. Plus more.
I lived in Lancaster for 3 years at college and missed Barrow so much. I’m working on a video showcasing how beautiful Barrow is and I’m proud to be a Barrovian.
Homeless nationals on the street and illegal immigrants in hotels? How wrong can governance get it?
In Blackpool, they are given a 4 star hotel, fed and given an allowance each week to spend while across road are ex-army service-men living homeless in a shop doorway!... This country has quite literally gone to the dogs.
Bet there’s at least 5 “Turkish” barber shops
@@davidholgate123I think it is done on purpose mate, demoralisation stage
All comments gone, says it all 🤣
Money laundering.
Barrow-in-Furness is the most dangerous town?? 😅 I have lived here all my life, and that's the first time I have heard that... Can you name any time in the UK that hasn't got rough areas? Probably not! The problem is everyone is shopping online now. This is why shops are shutting and small businesses are struggling
So true, sad sign of the times we live in these days
Barrow is a lovely place to live and not a bit like this person describes.
All these illegal immigrants should be booted out, and the hotels etc given over to all our homeless, a lot of whom are damaged ex services. What makes things worse is when the council block all the streets off, and make them into pedestrian precincts. Great for the pedestrians, but it means that the shops cannot get supplies in - except at silly-o-clock, and who is going to employ staff to work nights in a shop, just to take deliveries in?
I'm not getting political but you look into what happened to Bob curry sas irian seige The soldier was left living in a B&B and relying on charity handouts despite risking his life to save 19 hostages during the 1980 attack on the Iranian Embassy I apologies I'm getting political but I have to speak up sorry lee
Disappointed you only went down the high street that is run down but just like many other towns. Barrow is a great place to live, and nothing like how it was portrayed .
I'd like to thank that man for his honesty, im from East London and i wont go out at night groups of foreigners hanging around and his Mother looks great for 82
Dave Myers’s was from Barrow , bless him. 😢
Reflects much of the towns in the uk these day sadly
i was going to say the same as tamworth staffordshire has gone downhill and rather stay in nunneaton and atherstone.
Pop overt over to Sutton Coldfield town centre lookalike Beirut
Unbelievable. Vera and her son need some answers from all these politicians, councillors and leaders that have done this to them. It’s heartbreaking to see such an old town decimated in such a way. Don’t feel bad for showing us. We’re getting over ran everywhere you look and these bloody idiots in charge don’t care about the Vera’s of the country as long as they’re meeting their I&D quota! Disgusting
Wow! What an interesting video . Really open, honest interviews that you wouldn’t find on conventional TV. Sadly much of the U.K. is like this - affluent market towns with coffee shops and independent boutiques lying next to towns like this, with bankrupt councils and nothing being done. It’s all over the U.K. It’s shameful. Great video tho!
All they need is for people to have more expendable income which they currently don't have plus mortgage rates went up again today
Sign of the times Lee welcome to Great Britain, nothing great in it anymore. So many towns and cities around the UK in a similar position. Nice touch with the McCoffee for the homeless guy.
I'll vote for Norman Bates mother first! politicians make me puke.🤮
Don’t judge a town by the state of its shopping centre .
Wow, that was very moving. The sad thing is, Barrow In Furness is just the tip of the ice berg. I am from the North East of England and I can tell you there are worse places here and I'm not exaggerating. Britain is changing and not for the better. I could say a lot more but I think I'd better leave it there for obvious reasons.
Well said about the homeless man lee you said what we all thinking .
If they can house people it should mean all people it's disgusting in this day and age 😒
Thank you for posting. The most dangerous street in fact is Coronation Street in, I believe, Salford. It has the highest mortality rate in the whole of the UK.
Albert Square in London is statistically more dangerous. First death in episode 1 and going on 40 so far.
I presume your being sarky and meaning the soap 😊 and not the real coronation street.
And the most dangerous area is Midsomer.
@@lparky4409 and if you meet a miss Marple run 🏃♂️
Fantastic video absolute salt of the earth people there, you put the media to shame Lee, their multi million pound budgets don’t produce content as honest and raw as this.
that was brill. Humour /melancholy. ..and truth.. about how we are despised by our politicians. you deffo got the gift, for throwing these vids together.. 💫 ; )
Once an area looses its heavy industry the place will die, sadly it’s all over the world 😢
Spot on in what you were saying at the end Lee
Sad but great video Lee
I randomly stayed there a few years ago, thought it was a bit rough and ready but wasn't too bad.... Also there's South Walney nature reserve which was so tranquil, with views back onto Morcambe bay. A hidden gem!
I live in Barrow and I'm sick of hearing people going on about Contractors from out of town supposedly pinching jobs that locals could be doing. Most of the jobs in Bae are highly skilled and if they can't get the right people locally what are they to do?..Perfectly OK for workers from round here going up to Sellafield contracting though and pinching work from the West Cumbria locals.
I don’t think it looks bad. Decent people and the town is near to beautiful remote areas. Keep up your excellent work - I really enjoy your videos.
Also 600 apprentices are moving into the old Debenhams right in heart of the Town Centre.we also have shops out of the centre.Barrow is a great little Town with a football and rugby team and beaches on 3 sides and the Lake District up the road.
Would you pay £4 to park your car and walk round in the pouring rain or would you go to the massive B&Ms, Range, Sports Direct ,Smyhs Toy Shop,Dunhelms,TKMax, Next,Argos ,HomeBargans, Matalan or one of the 3 Big Supper Markets I think it's a nobrainer for most of us. And as for jobs 12000 in shipyard And they Need another 5000 we have the docks, windfarms, a gas ternimal, Kimberly Clark seasons Oxley and many more who support the shipyard and hospital that employs hundreds of workers then by dress work up the coast at sellafie!d and then hundreds go to work in the lakes.Every Town Centre is the same.
Very very sad to see this Lee😢. It seems to be happening in many places😢
Lee, I live on the north shore of Long Island in an area known as the Gold Coast. It's a very affluent area but despite that, a good percentage of retail stores are empty. There is absolutely no crime here. We are covered by county police, state police, and several village police departments because our town is made up of nine incorporated villages. I think the retail spaces are mostly empty for several reasons. The landlords are so wealthy, they don't care if their spaces are empty because they just take the tax write offs when they can't rent the space. They're also charging too much for the spaces to rent. Small stores can't compete with the big box stores and online stores, especially Amazon. Also, people prefer convenience of online shopping.
As far as your commentary on homeless, I am not sure what you're specifically talking about, I assume it's some commentary about foreigners live in publicly paid for housing. Here in the US, many of the homeless are living on the streets because they suffer from mental illness. They actually prefer to live on the streets and when public housing is offered, they often refuse and stay homeless. A lot of our homelessness crisis stems all the way back to the Reagan era when he closed most of the mental health facilities across the country. That was one of his biggest blunders. People don't want to spend their tax dollars helping people with mental illness which is absolutely revolting.
Mister Macmaster! Lee summed it up very well, SAD !!!! 😢 awful yo see the deterioration in not just Barrow, but judging by rhe comments, all over the bloody place!! What is happening to this country??????🤔🤔
Who have you been talking to?? Barrow is NOT the most dangerous town 😂😂😂 far from it. Yes there are a lot of closed shops, and yes we have crime, but so do a lot of places. Barrow was Dave Myers' hometown and he was very proud of it!!
this is one of the best blogs ever, the powers that be need to study this.
My late mum went into Furness General Hospital Barrow in Furness and five weeks later she was dead. The hospital wing had peeling wallpaper. The bins were overflowing with rubbish. Lack of leadership and no problem solving skills.
Lee consider visiting Bradford, if you dare!!! Think it competes well with Barrow and it is soon to be capital of culture!
With jobs and wages given to out-of-town contractors, the locals don't have the means to support the service economy. And if the contractors are sending their pay to other places, the contractors have no skin in the game and don't support the local economy other than what they pay out in rent. What the city councils need to do is have some leverage on these contractor-based companies to get locals hired. City governments need policy support up the government chain of command that stops companies from gutting towns.
Well done Lee, I like your presenting style, much better than the so called celebs on mainstream TV.
Sad times to be alive, watching the country take in all these economic male immigrants, tent citys been set up everywhere 💔
Many years ago I was on a Geography field trip from school in Leeds up to Barrow. We had to do a questionnaire on the high street but most respondents were drunk. This was 10 in the morning!
Really good video Lee, it’s heartbreaking to see some of the things you’ve shown in it but it’s necessary. Far better than anything you will see on TV, let’s face it most of them aren’t honest enough to approach subjects like this and try to dissect them in an honest way. Great work! 👍
The lady made a good comment, shop local , some towns toiling post pandemic.
Yes I agree with u about the homeless that poor man just terrible this government stinks👍😢
Someone like me who has lived within the Barrow area all their life and for someone who doesnt even know it is a shipyard industry town that comes here and depresses the place even more so with your content. I can safely say, it is not the best town in the country, but it is certainly not what the "clickbait title" states...
All small towns up and down the country will have a suffering high street with not enough people in them nevemind police! And dont get me started with the imigrants we continue to get housed here.
If you look at the bigger picture, Barrow is a prime example of how much of a mess this country is in, not just the UK's most dangerous town ... Oh and it definitely must of been a Sunday because the town centre is never that deserted with all that being said🤦🤷
Lee, makes my blood boil! Our government should be ashamed of themselves! Its the same all over our country.
The goverement should talk and interact more they are far too conservative!
All those empty shops that could accommodate the homeless.
The council have got people in furness over a barrow!
You need to do more videos like this Lee travelling around the UK to visit more impoverished towns and cities.
The fact the council woman is so positive and seemingly doesn’t see what’s in front of her own face says exactly what’s wrong with the people voted to represent us.
Typical council bod. Living comfortably in her public sector job-for-life, a gold-plated pension to retire on, and all funded by sucking on the titty bottle of the taxpayer.
Well done Lee, I can't understand this British government that's willing too leave British people on the streets and give protection and a roof to migrants, God bless that guy I hope he can get help soon,
I bet they have got a decent chip shop.
Proper pub as well.
WOW! After reading that article to us. Painting a picture of such grim, dark danger filled streets. Crime running wild. Drugs. Violence is everywhere. Local police losing the daily battle. The local members of the town, the poor general public have they not suffered enough? And then you turn up 😭😖😣😱Watching you walk through the town, it's like a scene from a post apocalypse movie. Barrow is a beach? 🏖️🤔. Interesting views from the elderly lady. Young people hanging around on street corners, they always have. Late 50s early 60's the old cry " nothing to do around here😥😢" A round up. Firstly, to you Lee, who knew you had such depth. This was by far the best video I have seen on your channel. Bloody well done 👍👌I think, your unspoken thoughts are shared by many in the country. Sadly I fear, we have lost the plot. And I can't see the script changing any time soon. We were Great Britain, the United Kingdom, The British Isles. We gave aid and assistance around the world. We still donate £millions each year. But for far too many years now we have been the soft touch, and allowed our selves to be S. H. 1. Tee apon 💩💩it's gotta stop. We must start to say NO!! Set laws and policies. Force them through. Ignore the " upper chamber(the Lords)" And listen to the people. Like you, no funny outrow. Allan and family
What a great video Lee ! Showing us how life Is, true and true paying certain people to get in a plane, ridiculous and no grub insight, well di e!
Just like a lot of high streets in UK 🇬🇧
Lee,have you seen most towns in this country, most towns are like this, unfortunately !!!
You saved me posting the same, and drugs are rife nearly everywhere!
But i can say it for you Lee ..We should be looking after our own people born here first, not leaving them in doorways but acomendating others that are not uk citizens !!
Well said
Enoch Powell warned this would happen but no one listened to him but he was 💯 right.. because it's happening right now 😔
Well done Lee
Powerful message. xx
Blame Amazon for the empty high streets
Blame us for allowing it to happen. We are all to blame, we chose to spend our money on Amazon.
Thankyou for what you are doing.that was a nice thing getting that poor man a hot drink. Bless you. X
Come to Brierley Hill Lee. A once great town with great shops now it’s just full of fast food joints and dodgy criminals. The bank was even used as a place to grow cannabis and you certainly wouldn’t want to walk through there at night. Even the police centre is closing down..
Britain's longest cul-de-sac....had the misfortune of having to visit this dump many times over several decades and it's only ever got worse.
Many councils blame the internet on the decline of their towns rather than their own incompetence , plenty of Northern towns like Bury and Chorley still thriving.
Barrow used to be in Lancashire as did my home town but back in '74 the reshuffle saw many towns displaced.
Great vlog mate 👍
Wow a sensible vlog , many thanks Lee , we need to see more of this , and it is very sad that the government are treating people like this
I used to live nearby, and work at the shipyard - I agree, it's become a desolate wasteland these days. Town centre is empty during the week because anyone with money is probably at work in the shipyard, and shops closed down because a lot of the 'money' goes back home to live at weekends.
Majorca one week Barrow the next.. what a transition 😂😂
I have been to Barrow once when Tranmere played them.. they still had a Christmas tree up in late January!
was it last years Christmas Tree, or the years before's
worked in Barrow for 6 months thought it was a dump then (2004 ?), It was starting to look run down then. Worked on the submarines..... but not allowed to talk about it..... But the press could come in and take all the photos and video as they wanted ?????
Sad to see this vlog because it looks like a nice town I thought Bradford was bad😱😱
Well said Lee, much respect. And like you say, its very sad indeed
You were right about the crime, just yesterday an armed gang stole football and 2 jigsaw from local toystore, the police are trying to piece it alltogether.
Its a common theme in most town centre areas in england
Great vlog Lee showing everyone what has happened to once a boom town which sadly happening across the country, you was spot on about the homeless sadly some have served the country, well done 👏❤
Thank you so much for buying that guy a coffee Lee , it brought a tear to my eye , so sad .
At least if anybody nicks your car while you are there, they won't get far in it before needing to charge it up..
Could be the start of a new series for you "I eat fish and chips in the worlds most dangerous places."
New series i eat fish and chips in the worlds most dangerous plaices thank for letting minnow about that!
DEPRESSING..... You obviously haven't been to GOSPORT in Hampshire!!
Great video, Lee 👌
Great piece of journalism, Lee.
😂😂
Hi Lee this story is all over the country and I liked the positive message from the market trader
Lee it is a sign of the times. Governments are killing off small businesses, they want online shopping. Most areas have run down parts. Barrow in Furness looks ok to me and if they are investing that can only be a good thing. The Council lady was great, I feel sorry for the elderly who still wear masks. Sadly they were frightened by the Government.
Another Great Video 🎉
I’m pretty sure you said “Shitbuilding” in your opening monologue 😂
Lee you hit the ball out of the park my friend. This episode was fantastic and brought a tear to my eye 😢
Like the US, a lot of shipbuilding has been exported. After that everything around it collapses unless something else steps in.
Wouldn’t you think this is also a security issue?
the council could help by slashing busnes rates on all empty shops
the lady from the coucil said a lot of the market traders have moved to the high street but there seeems little sighn of that
She was talking rubbish like most council workers.
Thanks For the video Lee. It made me really sad for our nation☹️😎
This country doesn’t care about our own ,it’s disgusting 😣
Our markets and car boot sale died with COVID and never returned. At least Barrow in Furness has a market! Our High streets are still slowly dying as the banks leave.
Happening all over big towns becoming deserted crewe in cheshire being one council built a new 650 space car park and no ones gonna use it as town centre is dead
Hello Lee - I think you have a new mission in life, with our outlying towns and villages!
I lived in Ulverston and worked in Barrow for about 5 1/2 years in the early nineties and your video shocked me. My last memories of the town are of a busy bustling centre with most of the big superstores represented and a well used railway link. If you wanted big ticket items then Liverpool, Manchester were the norm, but what you are showing is decay from lack of care for the local people. We can all see this taking place the length and breadth of the country. High streets, decimated property prices escalating out of reach, combined with rampant crime and inflation.
Meanwhile some of our own people live on the streets, but migrants live in relative luxury and still complain while our elected officials line their pockets and dream up more and more ways to waste our tax monies on things like HS2, Elizabeth line, foreign aid etc etc.
We need to elect a government that is willing to spend money on deprived areas not just list the areas and give false promise but to actually DO SOMETHING TO HELP OUR OWN PEOPLE!
Much the same thing is happening here in the USA, perhaps on a much larger scale. It's the same thing with our government here; plenty of help for foreign countries, but close to a million people are homeless, many living on the streets. Where this will end I don't know, but I don't think we've hit rock bottom yet.
Lee very well made your compassion and respect for these citizens is clear to see.
I've seen a lot of town centres in worse positions than Barrow. Maybe there is hope for it yet.
I hope that coffee warmed up the gent living on the streets. Very generous of you Lee.
You get a rough time sometimes in the comments Lee,this is a brilliant insight into a much maligned place,a great watch 👍
blame the government anywhere north of London does not exist
Anywhere out of London, south west the same
I completely agree there has always been a great divide
Are you for real it's the same all over London us as bad it's all planned agenda 30 wake up
There are a lot worse places than Barrow.
Let's hope it winds up again. Once the landlords realize that their shops are almost worthless, a whole lot of more interesting independent shops can open up instead.
You're spot on and this is starting to happen now in many towns, the high street is coming back slowly in some places.
Totally agree with you Lee regarding the homeless.
Hi lee great content
Too many places like that around the UK, including, to a degree, my hometown of West Bromwich.
But what a fantastic piece of archetecture that Town Hall is! From a much more confident age. And the ladies in the market are fantastic ambassedors for the twon.
Edinburgh has more homeless Scottish people yet the hotels are full of Romanians I know I ran a homeless hotel and only had Romanians and Bulgarians, paid for by the Scottish government.
Can you imagine Nottingham City Council doing great things like Barrow market……just take a look at the Vicky centre and what our fantastic traders have been through
