Lived in Blackpool in the 90s for 7 years use to walk round the Pleasure Beach for free, the whole place has changed for the worst.
I remember old man Thompson who built the pleasure beach was dead against charging an admission fee after Walt Disney who visited the place suggested it. His son carried on the tradition, but when he passed away his kids immediately changed things. Its not a patch on how it used to be. We had lots of fun with my three kids visiting the place, but couldn't do it with our 5 grandkids. Far too expensive.
Yes, I remember around 1970 ish we went to the pleasure beach when you could just walk around I think you could buy a ticket at a kiosk for any rides etc, so we just spent all afternoon in the fun house, that massive slide in the middle was awesome as a 10/11 year old also it did not cost Mum and Dad too much either😆

I can confirm that when i went to the pleasure beach in the early 70's entry was free,
they made enough on the rides and candy floss !
Blackpool looks deserted, a far cry from the days you coudn't move and it
took ages to make your way down the prom.

Many years ago, I went to the original Harry Ramsden's in Guiseley. It was fantastic - the waitresses were dressed in traditional black and white uniforms, there were glass chandeliers from the ceiling and the fish and chips were cooked in beef dripping.
In the corner of the massive car park was a wooden shed where Harry started the business. Alas, now long gone.

Great vlog Lee,the original Harry Ramsdens was in Guiseley opposite the White Cross pub not far from the airport. We are planning on a night over in Blackpool soon so ill ckeck out the Yorkshire chippy while we are there.
In the early 70s Lee, you could walk around the pleasure beach till late in the night. I remember walking around the seafront at midnight with my mom and dad then. Now me my wife and daughter and son would have to pay nearly £200 a day for the pleasure, sorry there is no pleasure in the beach anymore. Plus nearly £70 for your fish and chips meal. Love Blackpool great memories but not what it was in terms of value. Enjoy your vlogs though.

My husband and myself went to Blackpool last October for 3 days for our honeymoon and we really enjoyed it. We went to C Fresh chippy and it was amazing im really fussy with chippy chips but the chips were really tasty. Hoping to go back next year or the year after and maybe for abit longer this time

Great video lee, i love Blackpool, a lot of happy memories from there. fish and chips looked yummy and the donuts and ice cream extra yummy. nothing beets freshly cooked donuts 😊😊

I have to agree with you Lee. Too many people get offended for nothing. People have to have thicker skin. I returned to England 2004 but left 2008. The England I once knew and loved was gone. Cameras everywhere and freedoms gone.

I visited the comedy carpet last year when I went to Blackpool. It always a highlight of my trip there.
Thanks again for the video from Blackpool a nice seaside resort to visit. For me rather than Fish and Chips I would prefer to go up the tower it's less Fattening. Pleased you met your many friends there again.Regards Keith x

If you really want to try the best ice cream in Blackpool - indeed in Europe or maybe even the world! - you need to walk a bit further up the Promenade to Waterloo Road, where you will find Notarianni's Ice Cream - been selling ice-cream since 1926. Their motto is "one family, one flavour". You have to try it and, maybe, make another video about it?

I have great childhood memories of going to Blackpool Pontins in the 70's. Yes you could walk around the Pleasure beach for free.
Loved the fun house on the pleasure beach as a kid before it burnt down. You're right about being able to walk around it as well.
Trauma towers was the most memorable for me, Bone shaking wild mouse ride and Noah’s ark too 😅 they got rid of the fun stuff in place of bigger thrill seeker rides.
Took my grandkids for the first time last year since the admission charges were introduced. Now they’re older at least they get value for money being able to go on all the rides. They did all the new fancy thrill seeking rides, but their favourites were the old Big Dipper and The Grand National. They admired the rickety ride rather than the smooth slick ones. I think they would have loved the Mad Mouse and The Fun House. Just shows the multi million pound rides don’t always provide the best experience.
Blimey where was everyone!….. I know it was a bit gloomy but the place looked empty…. I can remember going there in the 70’s when I was a kid and it was packed!….

Mother Hubbard's was indeed opened in Bradford near Morrisons on Ingleby Road, Girlington, around early 1970's, Hilda and Stan Ogden from Coronation street opened the restaurant and a standard fish and chips was under 50p or 10 bob back in the day😆

Making comments, is very difficult when you are my age (80) We went to school aged 4 and every Monday you took a penny to buy a picture of a coloured child in Africa, along with the tag's save a Brown boy etc
Then you went to town and every other shop had a model of a child outside in callipers which was a cash collection box and a sign saying pay to help Spastics, A well known actor (Brian Rix) used to perform and drop his trousers on stage to support the Spastics
Now after 80 years it is difficult to wipe the brain and be alert not to use the language you have used all these years

I don't know about Blackpool, but our local amusement park was open - anyone could enter and you just bought tickets for the rides. I think the idea was that once you entered, you would be tempted by the rides and buy tickets, But then, there were some incidents with not-so-nice people getting into fights and scaring people away, so a small admission charge was added to discourage them. Now, it is a big admission charge and you still have to buy ride tickets. In the past, some adults just went to watch their kids who went on the rides. Now, everyone has to pay (rider or not) and that makes it much more expensive.

hi lee. the pleasure beach had open access until around 2008 then they sealed it and you had to pay five quid to enter. a mate of mine, sadly now dead, worked in the treasury dept. he said a month after the charge started they laid off half the security staff. the charge stopped druggies, drug dealers, vandals , feral street kids, pickpockets, thieves , handbag thieves etc. from going in and security had little to do.
codfarther is good for fish and chips. the batter is a little bit different to normal.
Youve coverd some miles there walking from one end of blackpool to the other.

Harry Ramsdens always said they made their own chips,but I worked for mccain foods and we produced chilled chips for them.

Yes you could walk around the pleasure beach, I use to cut through after ice skating and have a quick go on the log flume, apparently the pleasure Beach isn't doing so well, I think the prices are too high, it's putting people off going
I went to the original Harry Ramsdens in Guisley Leeds over 35 years with an ex boyfriend from Halifax. It was packed with coach parties queuing up to get in. X
Harry Ramsden there was one in guiseley outside of Leeds but its now the Wetherby whaler

I tried Harry Ramsden in Skeg once. They had run out of battered sausages! I was not impressed already when the chips arrived. I don't understand the hype.

Brilliant Lee im not able to go this year first year ive missed in the last 6 yeah that ice cream is amazing but never did the donut combo i bet it was brilliant i will miss it big time this year, but onwards my friend.
Yeah, you had used to be able to walk around the Pleasure Beach free of charge but they started going for paid admission around twenty years ago.

As kids we loved walking round the pleasure beach its a rip now to walk round my dad usevto love in Blackpool in the 70s and 80s painting the tower now health and safety back then my friend got the golden sands in gynn avenue pet friendly B&B we cone to.blackpool a lot my partner kevin as been all around the world never been to Blackpool till we went for a weekend ge can not stand up asvwe do come up alot lol love your videos

I worked for Harry ramsdems for 4 years, I got out just before they destroyed the business, it was a shame we used to have queues all day long at one point
Harry Ramsdens started in Guisley nr Leeds, the latest restaurant and takeaway they built is still in use today but is now Wetherby Whaler.
And that place is rubbish, totally disgusted with that place. A waste of money.

Last time I was in Blackpool was last year for the air show in August.Highly recommend and it's free! When looking for a chippy everywhere was heaving apart from.... Harry Ramsdens it put me off going in wondering whats gone wrong?
There is a nice fish n chips in Blackpool called `The Sea fisheries` directly over road from Central Pier should give them a try if you haven`t already done so

There is a Cod Father here in Dover, Cherrytree Avenue. But I have never tried it. I tend to stick to the local brand I grew up in Deal and Walmer. Walmer Chippie on the Strand is the best. The best Cafe Breakfast is The Bandstand Cafe on The Strand in Walmer.

I went to Blackpool pleasure beach when the Pepsi max roller coaster was new it was free entry. You brought an arm band to go on the rides. I think it was £10.
Believe or not the Pepsi Max is 30 years old this year !
Yes when I was a kid visiting my family that live in Blackpool my mum and dad would take me in the pleasure beach and it used to be you pay as you ride but in them days you never really got pickpocketed or have your stuff stolen unlike today and you can understand why they make you pay to go in to stop all that

I was in Blackpool in the middle of May. Couldn't believe how run down it is. Lots of homeless white men (harrowing) and tonnes of amputees - what's that all about? The bio weapon injections maybe?
