    Imagine going to the gym and getting a vigorous workout at any and all times of the day or night. Maybe even couple times a day weather you're sick or not. 2am the sheriff call and you gotta jump out a warm bed to extract a trapped person and you gotta be on your game. Props to all those unsung hero's like Ron Pratt. 💙👍

    Last comment Ron was right on the money stating it was a 2022 Chevy 1500 Silverado 6.8lt 4x4 fully loaded with back seat driver. Only 1000 miles on vehicle bought 2 days before set out to pasture. Those Battery powered chain saws are a great investment for a towing company as they aren't a tree service there a recovery service.

    Questions on air bag non-deployment: I used to work for a company that made crash sensors. Typically you need an impact/shock to the vehicle of at least 8g to 10g to trigger the airbags. If this was brought to a "gradual" halt by the trees and scrub, that would be why there was not a sufficiently large impact to trigger airbags. If it had hit a tree dead-on, that would be a different story. Hope the driver an any passengers are OK, as Ron would say "prayers and God bless" to them

      my 16ft car trailer was sunk in the mud nothing on it and i was tugging on it with my 2000 ford ranger and the air bag went off. i was using a 5 foot chain. no way in hell it seen 8g. at least i was smart enough to turn the passenger bag off as soon as i got the truck.

      I worked for Delco Electronics when the were developing the sensors that triggers the bag deployment, they were looking at directional movement to better understand differences in the kinds of impacts to a vehicle that are created from a collision verses running over very rough road surface/condition to help prevent a "false" trigger but I was not around when the study was concluded. All together it was very interesting testing and evaluations; I am not sure if they were able to make triggering that smart but looking at the damage to that Chevy vs the drivers injury it may have been good thing they did not deploy.…..

I can't believe the airbags didn't deploy in this accident with only minor injuries considering how many trees the truck hit and the fact how much damage was done. God was definitely with him.

    Kinda feel like we need an explanation from GM as to why and how you can rip a fender and wheel assy off and 5he airbags don't deploy

    • @Reisperbachtal
      @Reisperbachtal 4 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Airbags only go off with rapid deceleration (frontal/side impact) or when the vehicle turns over. The way this crash looks, the vehicle was slowed down "relatively" softly by the brushes, so there was no need to deploy the airbags.
      A lot of people are disappointed if they see the broken metal but no airbags deployed, but that's how it should be. The deformation of the chassis slows the occupants slowly so they don't come slamming forward into the steering wheel. If the sensors detect a rapid acceleration, only then the airbags will go off.
      Airbags actually do cause injuries themselves (burns, ruptured eardrums) so it's better not too blow them off needlessly. And the computer obviously doesn't know / can't see the path of the crash, so it might blow of the airbags on the slightest bump but when the vehicle then bounces off into oncoming traffic, the airbags are already deflated and useless.
      There's actually a lot of good material on this topic online, you might want to take a look at this.

      the impact was a glancing blow to the left front edge of the truck and not a threat to the passenger compartment, therefore air bag deployment was not required.

    • @McNair1952
      @McNair1952 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Air bags are designed to deploy above a given rate of deceleration. Lets assume that you lose control of your car at 70 mph and hit a kerb which rips off a wheel, then three seconds later you hit an on coming vehicle. You want the airbags going off when you hit the oncoming vehicle, not when you hit the kerb. Air bags have small holes in them to allow the air to escape after use to stop your head bouncing back. If the bags went off after hitting the kerb, they'd be of no use 3 seconds later. I'm sure GM air bags work to government specifications.

    First thing Ron says on finding the truck: "Holy Crapola"
    me watching the video: "Oh I know this is going to be good, that's the worst thing I've ever heard Ron say in a video."
    Also, you know this took a pretty good time for the recovery when even the fast forwarded overall highlight clip was 8 minutes or so long. LOL. God Bless Ron.
    edit: fixed typo I missed

    Starting at 50:30 you can see the tire tracks in the grass of the crashed truck. Front and rear are tracking absolutely straight and inline with each other. No side sliding at all. It's pretty clear the driver fell asleep and/or his/her brain otherwise went to Bermuda while driving and they drove straight off. Damn lucky no one was killed.

    i think those branches stuck under the tires (or frame, in the case of the driver's front) helped to minimize damage to the yard. yay for happy accidents.

    My dad drove the largest wrecker in our town in the 50's and he got all the wrecker calls for trucks,so he was on call 24 hours, night and day. I went with him on a lot of weekend calls and it could be very traumatic sites at times.I was 9 years old then and often he would let me pull the control lever in side the truck to lower and raise the cables while he would hook them onto the wrecks or remove them. Have to be dedicated,strong nerves and stomach oftentimes. Really admire and respect you and your family 👪!! Prayers for you all. May the Lord encamp His angels around you all and keep you safe from all harm!! God bless you and your family teams!!

      Or some wheels on a little towing frame. A small cart would also come in handy to carry bits of equipment across to the site of recovery, rather than having to carry the chainsaws, remote, chains etc.

    I really enjoy watching these videos!! My Papa was a tow truck driver way back in his day, long before I came along. He enjoyed most of it, but said what ruined it for him was the scenes he came up on where there were people trapped-children and/0r adults and the vehicle was on fire...the screams and the smell of the people burning alive was unbearable because there was nothing he could do to help or save them, though there were some he could help/save or he'd roll up on a scene where adults and children had been thrown from the vehicle or were pinned underneath or outside of the vehicle one way or another.. not all of them had passed away but several had.. it was the scenes involving children being seriously injured or killed that got to him.. other than those situations, he liked the job.. its not for everyone!!

It was a bad wreck i know, but it wasnt like he was running 70 MPPH when he hit some big trees. They didnt show it but the drivers seat cushion was all wrinkled up and pulled away from the seat frame, rumor has it the drivers arse was puckered so tight that it grabbed onto it and began the damage sequence !! LOL

    Ron, I know on Ram trucks, there is a small panel on the door side of the steering wheel. It pops off easily and behind it is a manual release strap for the transmission. I’m sure the others have something similar. Might be good to become familiar with each models procedure to make your job easier and safer in the future.
    Certainly no safety issue with this one, just a little grass damage.

    Hey ron you were mentioning not being able to drop it in neutral, if you're willing to go into the car most have a little button hidden somewhere either in the dash or center console called the shift lock override. You'd probably have to look up the location per vehicle but if it's the difference between tearing up a property owners grass it's worth looking into. For example my 2017 ford fusion which has the electric shift knob is hidden under the center console, big enough for a key to engage it. works even if the battery is dead.
    God Bless

Here they would have just torn up anything they wanted to to get the vehicle on the rollback as quickly as possible and left the debris behind.

    In situations like this where you don’t want to damage the yard you can get nylon or plastic skids to put under the locked up tires or dragging frame with rope or chain attached to them to tie off behind them to keep them in place, basically like putting a plastic lunch trays under the tires to make it slide easier
