    Hi Ron Pratt, I am in an assisted care facility in California recovering from a stroke. I have plenty of time to watch your videos. I like the way you treat everyone on the job. You incorporate your Christian way of life. Everytime you ask for a prayer, I say a little one, but not only for the victims but for you and your crew and the officers. I use to feel this way, then one day an ambulance was tail gating me with their lights on, didn't notice them over the wind/music. What made it odd was I had just pulled over to let a different emergency vehicle pass me, then got back up to speed and maybe 20 seconds later this ambulance was behind me. The road behind me was straight and clear, so he must've been hauling ass if I didn't see him half a mile behind me.

      If you are running in states with higher speed limits (CA is still 55, Nevada gets up to 80), and you don't have a governed truck, it can go much higher.
      I average 10 to 12,000 miles per month, and someone in an open truck not constantly pulling mountains, with higher speed limits is going to be higher.

      I agree about the semi vs car thing I was amazed to see just the rear half missing on the car and no extreme injury's normally I would see or hear that the car nearly exploded on the hit or is now a metal pancake with the fairly high chance of extreme injury's or death but this was quite amazing to see that car not to badly damaged for what it was hit by

    • @j.whiteoak6408
      @j.whiteoak6408 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I expected a pancake of twisted metal! I see a truck, and I think "stay out of their way"!
      I was once riding my motorcycle on just a 2-lane highway through a very winding, mountainous section with double white lines (so overtaking was impossible) when I came up behind a semi with a recognisable company logo, he was going MUCH slower than the 60mph speed limit - I stayed well back, but within 2 minutes another semi with the same company logo came right up behind me and kept right on my ass, pushing me closer and closer to the truck in front of me which had now sped up - until I was completely pinned within a 30 foot space between the two trucks at 60mph...I WAS SHITTING MYSELF, and wondering WTF they were playing at....I could see in my mirrors that the driver behind me was talking and laughing - I knew the two drivers were communicating with each other. I've never been SO frightened in my life! And they kept it up for a full 20 minutes until the road finally straightened out a bit and I took the risk to pull out into God only knows what might have been coming the other way, but thankfully it was clear! Had I not been an experienced rider I would have been minced-meat - and I still believe that was their intention. WHY they did that to me, I will never know.
      I went to straight to a police station in the next town I came to - the rego plate of the truck in front was burned into my memory. Only to be told, "Well, that's the risk you take when you ride a motorcycle". NO IT IS NOT! Those two truckers were playing a very deliberate and very deadly game WITH MY LIFE - and I wonder how many others they've done it to, because they were clearly enjoying themselves immensely. I certainly wasn't!

First EV came down the left hand shoulder and all traffic inched over to the right and onto the right shoulder to allow room for the EV to pass. Second EV came down the right shoulder. In this case, coordination between the various EV units would have benefited the 2nd EV unit.

    Damn once he said he was hauling rollstock I was shocked he didn't get seriously injured... back in February '18 here in Pa we had a massive ice storm roll in and caused a bad accident on the Turnpike... we were out there for almost 6 hours in the Ice/Sleet cutting the driver out. All the rollstock he was carrying broke loose and pinned the guy down near the transmission of the truck, he had a fractured skull and collapsed lung, the medic wanted to fly him out but due to weather that wasn't an option... The only reason it took us that long to get him out was there were no available heavy rescues close to us to lift those damn things off the cab, the driver is one lucky man because he survived... Honestly I thought that if his injuries didn't kill him hypothermia would.

      acidburn21281 as a truck driver, I agree wholeheartedly. A lot of the accidents are from inattentive drivers doing things around big trucks they shouldn’t, but we as drivers of big trucks get the blame. And you are right, anytime a person is taken by ambulance, or a vehicle is towed, the CDL holder is charged with a reportable accident. Both the driver and his company take the hit. No matter who is at fault.

    Why did those forks look to big for that axle? Looked like you could have possibly used smaller forks to prevent any sliding within the fork? Working on that type of call puts a lot of pressure on the operator to get the road open ASAP. Might not look like it but Ron just got 2 weeks workout on one call. Stay safe Ron, God Bless.

    • @MikeBrown-ii3pt
      @MikeBrown-ii3pt 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Dan Dunning That was my thought too, but, Ron is the pro while I'm just a truck driver that enjoys his videos. He did say something about the type of steer axle and not liking the location of the forks. He and Mike also added extra chains to help keep everything in place. My main concern was not having any brakes except his own which he did rectify. I've pulled roll stock and even on the best day, those loads are HEAVY. Also, unless you have trailers dedicated to that type of load, no matter what you do, I guarantee that they'll shift every time too.

    • @bolinger87
      @bolinger87 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was wondering the same. Definitely not calling him out. He knows his stuff and has his reasons for what he does but I use my middle height 4.5" forks for those axles. Snug fit and down in the throat of the fork. But again I'm sure he has a reason for it. Love all his videos.

      @r.d.ontheroad-1094 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They were too tall, and he would have to reblock it hook up! He wanted to clear the road, plus the axle didn't have u-bolts as most do! That is why he chained the axle from side to side so it wouldn't slide and lose control!
