I bet his great grandfather never would have imagined his great grandson working and filming on a phone showing the world his hard work deep in the earth 🌎
@@mhughes1160 My wife said when her dad was about 12 years old, in the late 1890's and working down at the Louisiana/Texas border making fishing nets by hand only made 5 cents a day. So, way, way up North in Alaska and gold was $20.00 an ounce, how much was the miners' daily pay?
One of the best mine tours, ever! Hoping that young feller get’s to see his future come together on that table you sold him. A fantastic mine that deserves to be revived. Thanx to all involved in bringing us along.
Thanks for the video Jason! I live about 35 minutes away from this mine down in the valley and I love the history of that area! I've been to the neighboring mine several times, I had no idea this mill was so well preserved compared to the other nearby mines! Thanks to Josh for giving us all the tour, I'd love to see a follow-up video showing the mine/mill in action!
Jason, I love watching ya work and all that too (truly) - but the geology lessons and the faults and explaining how it all happened.....THAT is "gold" for this channel, in my opinion!!
This kids inherited a literal GOLD MINE! 😜 I hope he keeps the family legacy going, he has EVERYTHING he could possibly need to be a successful gold miner. Best of luck man!
What a fabulous tour! Thanks to Josh and Jason for their time showing us around. It was a nostalgic visit for me as I was there back in the early 1980’s as a geology grad student at UAF. The Independance mine was actively engaged in mining at the time and they were using the gold cord mine facilities to support their operation. We stayed in the gold cord bunkhouse overnight with the miners and what a night it was, playing pool in the attic and downing beers with the miners. Your visit reminded me of the incessant rain of water underground. I wondered if some of the ore cars and pneumatic mucker were the ones used in the independence mine when we were there. Thanks again, great tour!
Nice job Jason. I've watch alot of TH-camrs explore old mines and mills, but this is the best were the old and new are all there and now understand how some of that stuff worked, and not just generalized or guess work.
I don't usually enjoy watching too many other channel's underground mining videos... but thanks Jason and gents, this was fascinating! I'm thinking we all wish you a bright mining future up there in the chilly north!!
Not so chilly inside the mine is my bet. Good warm place to spend the winter working. At least compared to outside. Most of the caves I have been in stay around 55 F year round here in Missouri.
@@feelinghealingfrequences7179 Hi, when it comes to mining channels, Jason's, some of Mine Operator's, Dan Hurd at times ... that's about all I have time for. I will add, I have checked out others too, but now I stick to these. I watch many different types of channels, learning as I go! Thanks for asking...
Morning Jason, thanks for the share... Best wishes from the Gold Hill mining district of Southern Oregon. Take care and stay safe.⛏⚒⛏ Edit; Awesome mine and mill, what a great history
Jason! Glad to see you can still get thru a portal after all those Swedish meatballs! Lol! 😂 Also, it's awesome to see Josh following his family's tradition and eager to put the work in! 💪 In addition, Josh is quite the authority on both the families history in the mine, the complete operation, then and now, and making the necessary changes with more modern equipment! Excellent! Josh you're a monster in the business for your age, for some reason I see another Parker S. in the making! Seriously! Thanks, to Josh & family for your tour, it's been outstanding and thanks Jason for taking us along! ⚒️⛏️⚖️👍👷🤠
That was a really informative tour Jason, thanks for taking the time to walk us all through that impressive that everything is still maintained and in working order. I really hope they keep the dream alive and get that mine producing value again. excellent content :)
I'm a 48 yr resident of AK, I'VE been dreaming of this episode for 30 years almost. In 96 a buddy from Georgia went up to the Independence area to play tourist and when leaving next to his car an unusual rock caught his eye. The rock was the richest piece of ore I've seen outside of the Smithsonian, probably 12 lbs with visible wire gold all over one end and stray wires here and there over the rest of the rock except one side, the wires tested continuous with my multimeter. The wires were pretty thick and a beautiful bright gold, the rock was showing thin strips of quartz veining that the gold was mixed into. Larry, the finder, surmised that the rock came from one of the waste piles via someone who was metal detecting and they dropped the rock when leaving the parking area. Last time I talked to Larry he was using it as a doorstop for the front door of his home. I think I will call that old lucky bastard and try to get a photo of the rock.
My best friend is a Democrat (I'm not, but we're still friends), and he fancies himself a prospector. About 10 years ago he went to the Independence area to scout for a good claim. He found one he gauged to be very rich (he was guessing at least 5 ounces per ton). Long story short: he quit his job and moved up there, and invested in a lot of equipment. It turned out he had found a huge iron pyrite deposit. By the way--did I mention he's a Democrat?
This is a mesothermal deposit associated with faulting/mountain building. Usually very low in sulfides, smaller veins, more concentrated gold deposits. The formation is from much deeper versus epithermal high sulfide deposits closer to the surface. Mesothermal will be higher yields Usualy and very consistent overall relative to vein size ratio. He has some promising geology displayed, and a nice operation. I wish them speedy success in renewing operations.
Lol . Same here wake up to the end of a hooter and burn one or two in the evening. With a beer of course. I am 70 years old. Live in Southern California. USA.
Terrific video Jason and Harry...josh is such a great, knowledgeable guy... Very comprehensive tour of the old mine and mill... I love that your table's get all over the world, and that you get to show us some of the places... First class TH-cam-ing ✅👍
Thank you Jason for a phenomenal video. That mine, the mill, the equipment and all the stories and history are a record of how our grandfathers and their grandfathers built this country. The current crop of high school students have no clue as to how tough and how skilled these men were. Everywhere you took us showed their work ethic and craftmanship that is so hard to find today.
Jason - I’m not the type that comments on these, but I wanted to take the time to tell you how much I enjoy your videos, especially these long form ones. Your channel has my 9 & 12 year old boys interested in this stuff too - unfortunately being in MN we can’t get to any places like this, but when we have down time we like to put your videos on the big screen and live vicariously 😊 You’re the best!
I talked to Paul when I was there just a few weeks ago. Very nice folks, I even got a little piece of ore with visible gold. That's so great that you got to meet everyone and get the tour.
I'm fascinated by the early industrial processes of that era and could spend all day touring that infrastructure. The smell of all the old grease! It must've been a noisy place! Here in Australia, there is a floating dredge from the 30's parked where it finished mining that you can get on and see all the same early mechanical process to recover gold. Love it!!
Thank you Jason for sharing your videos. Very interesting stuff. Amazing content. I love the history associated with the content as well. Those old timers were tough as nails. Keep this good stuff coming, can't wait to see your next video. Take care, be safe, and have a wonderful week ahead.
Iam astounded by this young guy’s knowledge of this system! I pray he is blessed with pans full of gold! Please get us another tour once they get up and running!
The fact that the mine is still open is cool the fact the all of the equipment from 100yrs ago still runs and is still maintained shows the family's drive and dedication to a life long multi generation industry is mind blowing just proving they don't make it like they use to
Awesome new video Jason! Love the content. Very interesting, love these types of videos. The history of the old buildings and equipment never get tired of it. Thanks for sharing!

That $20 was worth quite a bit more then
And getting TH-cam money for posting it.
@@mhughes1160 $487.00 in today's money. But still a bit crazy
