Dude, thanks for this upload. I won't go into details but, I didn't live my best life in my 20's, and I lost a lot of my childhood possessions. However I never lost my love of video games. In 2016 for my 40th birthday my sister gave me the best gift I've ever gotten. She got me some t-shirts and other things then tells me she has one more thing and gives me an NES. I'm stoked, I freak out and am so excited. I say "holy shit dude, a legit NES!". She says "no, this is YOUR NES." It was my childhood NES that I got for Christmas 1988. My mom who passed in 2014 had gotten it for me despite our family not having much money. I played the hell out of any game I could get my hands on. I LOVED that NES. She had saved it all these years because she knew how much it meant to me, and now it sits in my living room getting the attention it got 30+ years ago. I love your channel and this video meant a lot to me.
I'm 40 and I got a nes in 1987 for christmas too... my dad took forever to connect it to our tv but man the feeling of playing super mario bros for the very first time.
It amazes me how he remembers most of this stuff. I remember the consoles I received as Christmas gifts and a couple games, but no idea how many other things I received each year.
He probably did some "research". Dig up some family photos, talk to ma and the rest of the family about it (he mentions uncles and cousins). Probably he had to also buy again or dig up from some old closet some of the toys and games, maybe he even had to restore the packaging, etc etc this video might have more work behind the scenes that it seems
It Is a very special feeling... Waking up the 25th and seeing gifts laying under the christmas tree. It's not only the material things you are receiving, but the anticipation and emotion you felt with each passing day of December. I was born in 82 and sure as hell miss those old childhood days. When you grow up, you get a job and start buying your own presents (and for your parents and younger relatives). All the emotion, joy and surprise of getting a special present for you is gone. Gifts turn from Videogames to underwear and pajamas (and other boring stuff). This Christmas I didn't even received a present for myself, but instead gave my parents and nephews the kind of presents I knew they would feel excited for (based on their hobbies, loved activities, etc). It feels great , giving something to your loved ones, but I remember the times when I was little... Like when my Dad gave me my NES console (Mario/Duckhunt edition), or when I received my SNES. I will always keep those memories printed on my heart, sure I'll always miss those good old happy days.
This was an awesome, very uplifting vid pat. It's great to hear those stories of getting awesome presents. That bit with frank at the end priceless. Happy holidays and new year to you Pat. Bring on 2021! 👊
I also got Spy Hunter for Christmas. And I too had a bad Sear Cataglog experience ordering a Nintendo game. In my case, it was ordering Super Mario Bro 2. It took over a year to arrive. After a year of waiting, the local Toys R Us had it, so we picked it up and canceled the order at Sears. But for whatever reason, the order from Sears was not truly canceled and it eventually arrived sometime later. (And my parent's CC was charged.) We gave it to my cousin for his birthday instead of returning it.
I’ve been watching your videos since the Blackbox days and loved all of them but I gotta say, the relaxed story telling nature of this episode had me captivated. Thank you so much for sharing with everyone. See you next year!
pat, thank you for all the things you've done over the years. this episode reminded me of my own childhood. i hope the next year finds you better than this one (i guess that's setting the bar low - 2020 can't go away soon enough)
You can always count on Christmas to bring us that elusive NESpunk video. Last year for Christmas my wife Suprised me with the Ultimate Super Nintendo Guide book and a new copy of the Ultimate Nintendo guide book (I read my original copy so much it’s gotten a bit worn out), needless to say it was an awesome Christmas! Can’t wait for the next book, Love the episode. Thanks Pat for all that you do
Great video Pat! Nothing like reminiscing about the good old days! One of my favorite video game Christmas memories is getting the n64 with wcw/nwo revenge in 1998! Goodtimes and great memories!
Just had Summer 2020 in NE Montana to get my kids out of the city. Pat, it was epic. I brought my NES, and acquired a 2600 and set it up in the totally 80s basement of my In-Laws. There were bikes in the driveway, the ice cream man, popsicles, pick-up baseball games, and Super Mario Bros and Defender. Truly great.
One of your best videos. Can't believe you kept it all straight on what year you received what gifts! It's all a jumbled mess in my brain. Lol. Happy New Year!
Christmas of 1987 and getting an NES was amazing! One of my favorite Christmas gifts ever. I don't remember anymore due to getting older if I played Turbografx on Christmas 89 or 90 (Never owned one but an Uncle and one of my Cousins both got it on the same Christmas and I visited them both that day) but I have vivid memories of playing Bloody Wolf. I wanted a Turbografx so bad, but my parents didn't want to shell out the money for one (as I have younger siblings so they would have had to have bought to turbo tap and extra controllers and the whole 9 yards) so they ended up getting me a Sega Genesis which I still play to this day, so that worked out for me, but, yeah, I remember the Turbografx blowing my mind at the time.
We still have our Sega Master System II!! My oldest brother got it from a KB Toys. Today, I realized the Alex Kidd in Miracle World pack-in was the best version because even though they replaced the onigiris with hamburgers, the game made 1 the attack button and 2 the jump button to welcome players who are used to the NES controller norm. My brother also got Ghouls 'n' Ghosts for the Master System when he got the console, which I would later find out is the best version of the game because the health bar and armour upgrades made the game playable compared to the sado-masochistic difficulty the series is known for. I didn't learn until recently that port is our rarest game in our collection (especially since we still have it CIB), so it is a treasure to me. Good memories that flooded to me when you showed us your Master System II!!
I got the NES for Christmas in 1987 when I was 9 years old.I got the NES with Gyromite and R.O.B. and Pro Wrestling was the first game I played. It was a great Christmas that year.
You’ve got some true stinkers in your stockings Pat. I feel sorry for your dad paying for these and for you missing out on the really good ones. In Europe we had a smaller but overall better library so me and my friends had mostly good games, we were quite lucky playing most of the classics all the time back then.
Man, I really love pats’ tg-16 story. I knew 1 person at my school that had one and I was so envious. When I’d go over to his house I would beg him to play it but only rarely would he give in. Ah, memories😢
Amazing! Thank you! I have been searching for the Thexder game for AGES but never knew its name, only its concept. I used to play it after Elementary school in the computer lab.
I'm extremely jealous of your ability to remember all that. I consider myself lucky that I can remember 1 Xmas haul let alone multiple. Hell I can't even remember what I got last Xmas lol
Batman on the NES was the highlight of my adolescence! Pat, I know you don’t make as much money on TH-cam as your podcast (which I LOVE!) but I think we’d all love to see just a couple more videos a year! Nothin but love! Thank you!
Somehow missed this video from two months ago, Pat! Good stuff. I also got the NES for Xmas of 1987 (Control Deck version too, with SMB). I also received Legend of Zelda, Legend of Kage, Kung-Fu, and Rush'n Attack. Strangely enough, my father also played Operation Wolf the whole time his kids were roaming around arcades in the mid-to-late 80s. :D
The video game I remember getting for Christmas was WWF No Mercy for Nintendo 64. That night, I fell asleep playing it. When I woke up, I found out about the infamous memory-erasing glitch. It was a little while before I was able to swap it out for a cartridge with working memory.
It is definitely nice to look back fondly on Christmas present games. I'd be lying if I said I remembered them all like you seem to, but I definitely have fond memories of it. Pokemon Blue version, the PlayStation 1, even Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army on the PS2 were all games I got for Christmas and definitely still love and cherish to this day.

Yeah, it wasn't great, but I played PacMan on the 2600 for hours during Christmas break and enjoyed every minute of it!
Thank you Pat, hope you had a good Christmas and I wish you a better New year! My last Christmas gift by Santa Claus was the Nintendo 64! And it was the perfect gift of any Christmas.
I wish I could remember what I got ad a kid for xmas, especially in terms of games. What i do remember was getting a Tiger electronics Batman game with a little Batman figure that clipped onto the D-pad to function as a joystick and one year getting NFL Blitz and Banjo Kazooie so that was pretty awesome. A lot more years in there but sadly lost to forgotten memories.
Spending my summers at Seaside Heights, I wonder if Pat and I ever shot the geek together or played arcade games together at Lucky Leos without realizing it.
Ha! My childhood NES and SNES are LONG gone, Pat! Cherish the fact that you still have those consoles. Anyways I always love your Pat the NES Punk series! I understand why you don't do episodes that much but I still love em when we do get them!

great video pat I only remember getting one game on christmas and that was DKC3 but that was only because I would normally get games on my birthday since I was asked what I wanted but for christmas we got what we got and it never occurred to me as a kid to ask for games for christmas as well either way it was nice to relive good old memories despite the strife we have felt this year
Even if you don't upload very often, I still really liked this video and I'm glad you're always consistent with the quality and the comedy of your videos, unlike youtubers that upload weekly, have sponsorships and make uninteresting videos just over 10 minutes.
In Stanley Cup, if you dump the puck (x button if I remember right?) just before the blue line (going into the attack zone), you can usually score an easy goal. I had and loved this game as a kid, so maybe this exploit will help others enjoy it as much as I did!
Here's to a better (hopefully great 2021)! What video game Christmas presents do you remember getting? Let me know!
Christmas 2000, I got my N64 with TloZ OoT..... That changed my life.... ☝️🧐
Yes
Wcw/nwo revenge 1998
RBI Baseball, Double Dragon 2, and Excitebike.
NES with Mario & Duck Hunt. It was my all time favorite gift besides a bike.
When I got an NES as a kid for Christmas, I told my little sister I knew Santa was real because "Mom would never buy it, even if it was on sale".
I bet mom loved that 😂
Fantastic cameo and line at the end! "Its the 3rd time this month!" I literally spat out my drink he said that. LoL
