I want to know about choosing the appropriate swimming suit for my height , bra size and weight. Is there a table chart that women can use as a guide? I am 5.5 ft, bra 34DD, 130 pounds . I want to train to do competitive swimming.?thanks 😊

Fantastic video! For me, part of the trouble of finding a suitable sports bra is so many designs out there have superfluous strapping, ribbons, cross overs etc that add to the complexity of putting on the bra. But don’t serve any functional purpose when wearing them! Anyway, fantastic discussion and certainly gave me some things to think about!

Thanks for asking - I’m currently working on varying efforts in the pool, and quickly realized the lack of real-time data while swimming. In cycling and running, there are so many tools available, like bike computers, heart rate monitors, smart watches, etc. to make sure I’m staying on target. But in swimming, it seems based on perceived effort, which isn’t always the most accurate. Any advice on how to determine and execute varied effort levels in the pool would be awesome.

So much more common than you'd think! You're not alone. Women need a good sports bra and a good pair fo shoes to exercise, as the minimum. If you go without either one, it can be a barrier.

Perfectly explained-of course if you change your band size the cup will, too! Didn’t even think of that as my weight has changed and other times when the bra I was trying on wasn’t quite right and I needed to try its sister-now I know to change the cup size as well.

Thank you so much for this video! I am struggling to find a suitable sports bra since years, and often got disappointed by the local specialized running shops, where the shop assistants (usually men) are not really able to give advice. I bought several sports bras, some of which caused extensive bleeding after a longer run... and hopefully I won't make the same mistake after watching this video :) It would be nice if companies created some supportive bras with the HR-monitor band included, finding the right position for the chest strap is always a nightmare...

This was so interesting! I've always struggled to find a good-fitting sports bra that locks "the ladies" down! I had always thought of cup size as referring to volume, so this was definitely enlightening for me. What I find difficult is when my breasts seem to get bigger at certain times of the month. It's almost as if I need a few different-sized sports bras just for those times! I just purchased the Brooks Dare 2.0 and I'm loving it. Finally, a bra that holds everything in and locks it in place... without chafing!

I think it’s really important to feel round all the corners and catches and stitching etc before you buy it/while you can still return it because the tiniest scratchy bit will not go away and can be at best irritating and at worst actually draw blood/make permanent marks on your back (experience). Whenever I’ve thought “oh that’ll soften” I’ve lived to regret it!

I am trying to find a good quality sports bra for my wife, and I really found this vid to be a huge step in the right direction, and it was helpful. Thanks so much. I really don't understand why there aren't more videos out there reviewing sports bras in more scientific ways. It's wrong that so little attention has been paid to this issue.
On another note, isn't shorter stride length generally considered better? You mention it at the beginning of video.

Only just found this video Thanks for pushing more female specific content, Heather! This was super helpful, I'll recommend it to other friends. Another thing I've put on my checklist is underbands where the elastic can twist inside the fabric. Super annoying to try to straighten it without having access. Anyway, thanks a lot Heather! Always inspiring to see what you're up to :)

Thank you so much for great important video ❤️. And yes even I’m old I learned new things, and really get surprised. Why I didn’t have this information long time ago, when I started needed one bra. One good bra isn’t cheap so you want it to fit and support you. You shall not think of the bra, feel the bra when you do sports than it’s a good one.

Even as a guy, I recognise the technical challenge. My thoughts on "is my old bra wearing out?" buy your new (spare) bra early use them both and if your preferring you new one, that's a clue!

  • @carolbrough9787

I worked for a lingerie company that specialised in larger breasts (though 'large' breasts aren't as large as most think) for years. Measuring may be a good starting point, good advice over 'sister sizing', but you cannot measure a volume (your breast) with a 2D tape measure and this is not necessarily your bra size. Unfortunately, just like clothing sizes, different brands and different styles mean different sizes.
Personally I'm just a little sad that bigger sizes aren't catered for very well - I'm around a 28 J and struggle to get anything to fit and provide sufficient support for running.

Excellent video, i learnt a lot. (Despite being an adult female). Is that cup size theory worldwide? I know our band sizes are different here in Aus(same as clothing 10, 12, 14 etc) but is the cup size still the difference between the two measurements??

So cups do change all over the world too. The scale and maths is the same but the alphabet is different.
      For example:
      UK: A B C D DD E F FF G
      US: A B C D E F G H I
So a UK "G" cup is actually equivalent to a US "I" cup. The UK will also miss out some letters like "I" too and the US doesn't (really) use double letters. Only when referring to D, DD (which is also an E), DDD (which is also an F) and DDDD (which is also a G).
      I hope that helps!
