I have been this afternoon, just Brilliant, Imelda Staunton was incredible, didn't realise she had such a good voice, I so enjoyed it, worth every penny, the whole cast were just fantastic 😊❤
I saw the first preview of "Hello Dolly". It was fabulous. This is an unashamedly old fashioned musical with a big heart. It was good to have Imelda Staunton back where she belongs!
Went last night and was truly and utterly blown away! What a performer Imelda Staunton is. The whole ensemble were just awesome. Taken back to happier times! What a night to remember. And i remembered every word to every song ha ha
This post gave me chills! I am so over the moon that they are doing the original finale as shown here! They did not do it in the recent Broadway version, and and I found that to be a bummer. So to hear and see this made me so happy! So much gratitude for this post from California🙌🏿
@@MrMadshepherd This production uses the original closing medley for bows. It's nice IMO as it recaps highlights from the score underscores and continues storytelling the romance between the younger couple when they launch into "Put On Your Sunday Clothes" It not only brings back a moment from earlier in the show, where it starts to take off, but feels celebratory and self-referential/congratulatory in good way, and it builds up suspense for Dolly and Horace's entrance and bow. When the ensemble sings "Well, well, HELLO DOLLY!" as Ms. Staunton and her co-star enter, upstage center I feel the show comes full circle and it feels like not only a true star entrance but gives wedding happily ever after vibes. In the 2017 Bette Midler "Dolly" they cut the medley, bowed to an instrumental, and only sang "Hello Dolly" when Bette Midler entered downstage left, solo. It lacked that build-up and suspense of the original and what they did recently in the West End, and that storytelling wedding vibe was gone as well.
How wonderful I’m going to see this in September, just waiting for those wonderful reviews and of course to see the fabulous Dame Imelda Staunton, I can’t wait 😊
I’m seeing this tonight! looks gorgeous. I’ve seen Carol Channing, Ethel Merman and Mary Martin and tonight Imelda Staunton who I last saw in the wonderful show Follies at The National.
Dame Imelda Staunton is a fantastic performer. First her incredibly brilliant Madame Rose in "Gypsy" and now her wonderfully brilliant Dolly in "Hello Dolly!"
What do you think the chances are that they will do a Proshot of this? Would love to see it but we're not coming to London until October so will miss it.
Imelda is such a wonderful actress.. Is this show still running in September?. I like going to London in September - Maybe the Best month for going there... 🎉
6 nights a week and 2 matinees. It IS exhausting. Just love Imelda. She is such a legend and so incredibly professional and talented. Oh how I wish I could see this.....
@kaitlynrowena5463 I’m afraid these were production seats. I’m disabled and they moved me after I struggled where I was. Row A, if there are any left are only £20. The view is not too bad and well worth the price. Also try TodayTix.
If you look, especially on TodayTix and ALW you can find front row for about 20/25. Do NOT go for the 3 end seats in rows A/C. I had B8. Tight leg space but fine view tho I moved myself to row F as there were 2 aisle seats free! A tip, if you’ve the nerve and don’t live miles away wait till 2/3 hours before the show, they’re discounted. Same with most theatres. £179 Moulin Rouge were £59
I always try to ask the ushers if you can film or photograph the bows and encore. They nearly always say that’s fine but you couldn’t film the show. Some theatres even announce no photography until the encore. I suppose it’s good publicity. Some places cover your phone camera to stop filming, Cabaret did but stopped. On this occasion I check as normal and was told that it would be OK and as I filmed it there was an usher by the side of me. There is an issue though, I actually started filming when I thought it was the encore but I now think it was the last scene possibly.
The play that the musical is based on (The Matchmaker by Thornton Wilder) takes place in the 1880s during the height of the late bustle period. Even though Hello Dolly's original production design changed it to the turn of the century, the latest Broadway production staring Bette Midler switched it back to the source material's time period. And it seems that this production has also decided to make that change.
Imelda Staunton: Desecrating classic American musicals ("Gypsy," "Follies," "Hello, Dolly!" since 2014. (She needs to stick to Mike Leigh "kitchen sink" British melodramas.)
these larger than life eccentric women are fast becoming extinct....the fact the Staunton is playing this now...an inexplicable choice...is a sign of desperation I fear....she is about as wrong for this as you can get...as she was for Gypsy..these shows don't need method acting
I’m sure Imelda is wonderful. But wow, the sets and costumes for this production are hideous (not only as seen in this video, but in the production photos that have been released elsewhere.) Imelda and Dolly deserved better than this. She doesn’t even wear the iconic red dress and red feathers for the celebrated title number. Instead, it’s fluorescent shiny green. Imelda looked like a lime popsicle. There’s a reason why nobody has seen a photo of that normally transcendent moment … because it is truly awful. Some things are sacred. Dolly coming down the stairs in the red dress is one of those sacred moments.
I saw it last week. It was good, but not to Broadway levels. Didn't think Imelda really packed a punch, controversial I know. Having seen the movie and some other performances i just felt her vocals were quite weak and her accent kept slipping back and forth. I also thought the actor playing Horris was too young in comparison to Imelda.
Does anyone have a bootleg audio recording or video recording of this show. I’m in the US and will be unable to make it over to the UK to see the show. HELLO, DOLLY! is my favorite music. 🥹
Hello Dolly at The London Palladium starring Imelda Staunton is such a feel good production! My wife and I had to go and see it TWICE!

What did they do instead?

How wonderful I’m going to see this in September, just waiting for those wonderful reviews and of course to see the fabulous Dame Imelda Staunton, I can’t wait 😊
You're in for a treat! Saw it last night. Imelda is amazing. She brought the roof down! Fantastic!
I’m seeing this tonight! looks gorgeous. I’ve seen Carol Channing, Ethel Merman and Mary Martin and tonight Imelda Staunton who I last saw in the wonderful show Follies at The National.
Astonishing! Three of the very top women of the musical theatre.
I saw this this week. Amazing.
Saw this last night it was world class
Looks wonderful ❤
Dame Imelda Staunton is a fantastic performer. First her incredibly brilliant Madame Rose in "Gypsy" and now her wonderfully brilliant Dolly in "Hello Dolly!"
And don't forget her Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd.
Brilliant. We are seeing Dolly on Monday.

I’m looking forward to seeing this on Wednesday

Saw the first preview of this, fantastic show! I was in K19 of the upper circle, and it was a fab view, although tight legroom.
LOVELY!!
I'm exhausted watching it, and they do this every night for months😮
I believe it's just a 10 week run sadly 😢

Looking forward to it 👍
What seat is this it looks like a decent view I can only afford cheap seat lol

I just checked and there are still quite a few seats left in Row A at £20, at the end of the row they are £15, in August
I'm going on the 3rd, August to the Matinee!! I was in an Amateur Production in 1971 in Cardiff, now at 76 I'm going to rekindle my Youth!!!!

Have anymore clips? Lol
I'm sorry but unless you have permission THIS IS UNFAIR and a copyright breach even if its just the encore.?

You are outraged but watched it anyway, right?
Fashionable women in New York weren’t wearing bustles by the turn of the century. That’s an eccentric choice.

Sorry to be 'that guy' but 9/7/24 hasn't happened yet. Not unless you're giving us a flash of the future.
I’m guessing that you’re American. This is the 9th July in the UK. Sorry
guess what? America is not the entire world.
@@JM-lw3nxso where are you from?
@@JM-lw3nx I'm American and I agree with you.

you obviously can't read the signs about no cameras
I'm old enough to remember when Dolly was played by middle-aged women. Now it's senior citizens only.

Sondheim himself praised not only her choice as Momma Rose but also her performance.

Never liked "Hello Dolly."
Boo - stay off this site then.
If that's the curtain call I'm glad I haven't booked tickets!!
I'm glad u didn't
Well, this looks tired.
This looks every bit as shabby as I expected. No Sale.
