Wow, that was intense. Coming in at 3 hours with 2 intervals, one 15 minutes and the other 5, it is long. The first act felt long but the 2nd and 3rd shot by. Acting was amazing with a very simple set.

Best show in the West End at the moment. It’s gritty and the casting is pretty much perfect. One side fact is that Katy Secomb, who plays Widow Corney and becomes Mrs Bumble, is Harry Secomb’s daughter, who played Mr Bumble in the film. The only let down was ‘Who will buy’. Everything else was so good and this just was too ‘small’. I saw it twice in Chichester and three times, so far, in the We...

The bows of The Devil Wears Prada on at The Dominion in London’s West End. I really enjoyed it as did the rest of the audience. It was a Monday night and was sold out. Don’t believe the poor reviews, it is well worth seeing.

This is the view from Box A seat 1. Seat 2 is slightly better. I quite liked the box as you can move the seats around but you miss quite a bit of the stage but are very close to the actors.

This is amazing?! love that barnum is in a normal coat, fits the scene, and the singing is great!
Its "this is me" 😊
Okay where is this? I need to see this! These performers are amazing. ❤
@@rachelwwelover it is in London at the Empress Museum
Thank you!
what row is this?
This was the aisle seat in row L. The legroom was awful but the show was sold out. I had much better legroom in row T.
I didn't realise Billy was sharing the Dodger role. Did it have the same energy?
From what I've heard, the alternate Dodger is usually fantastic as well!
This is certainly a different view! How did you find the show (view wise) from this particular angle as opposed to that stage right box you were in earlier on?
This was obviously a much better view of the stage. I did, however, quite like the box even though the view was quite restricted, it was so close and almost immersive.
😂😂😂
Glad you enjoyed seeing the opening night performance of Oliver at the Gielgud Theatre in London, it’s extending its run to March 2026 and I will definitely be seeing it again this year after enjoying seeing it in December 2024
Wait- they extended the run? They might as well make it open ended, because everybody loved it in previews and opening night was electric! Look how long the last revival of Oliver ran for starters (case in point).
Happy Opening!!! (I'm SO HAPPY they added 'I'd Do Anything' back into the curtain call - didn't expect that at all. Hope this revival transfers to my side of the pond, great upload)
So am I and I loved the way the boys dance off into the distance following Fagin, much better. I hope they keep it. It’s next to Les Miserables so could be a long run!
@@andrewhowells8328 It had better be a long run!!!
On my bucket list.
@@juliemoss2260 You won't regret going Julie!!! It'll be a barrel of fun (yes, it's smaller than I'd like but a lot of the charm from the original staging is back)
I saw Calamity Jane tonight, at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre. It was a joy, from beginning to the end. Carrie was perfection, and the whole cast were great. Singing dancing, and playing their instruments. Time for a Ho Down. ❤️
@@coffillj so glad it was good. I had to make a choice and chose Oliver!’s opening night. If you haven’t seen it, it’s well worth it.
Thank you. I will definitely go soon.
Was it full ? We have tickets for Liverpool in April , but it doesn't seem to be selling that well so far.
@@Rosecooper-l1e we were at opening night. A few seats were available. However the rest of the week was full. It’s now moved to Manchester. I would say, just go and enjoy ! Well worth a visit.
For anyone who is interested it is Opening/Press night on Tuesday (14th Jan 2025). They had released some seats and there were some left earlier
I saw Cameron Mackintosh's new production of Oliver at the Gielgud Theatre in London on Tuesday 17th December 2024, it was absolutely fantastic with incredible performances from Simon Lipkin as Fagin, Shanay Holmes as Nancy, Billy Jenkins as The Artful Dodger and Clan Eagle Service as Oliver who were all fantastic, the sets are really well done especially from Chichester and the revolving stage as well, the music was fabulous like the Playout at the end and the songs as well like Consider Yourself, Reviewing The Situation, Food Glorious Food and As Long As He Needs Me, it’s now my absolute favourite production of the musical I’ve ever seen and my favourite show of the year 5 stars and 10 out of 10, before the show started I got the programme, shirt and bag from the souvenir stall and will be getting the Live Cast Recording CD and then afterwards I got signed signatures, selfies and hugs from both Simon and Shanay at the stage door. Definitely go and see Oliver at the Gielgud Theatre in London’s West End and it’s on until Sunday 28th September this year and I will be seeing it again.
You're the first person I've seen who has talked about that playout, because most people just ignore it because of their tube ride / subway ride home. Underappreciated, especially the last few measures of 'I'd Do Anything' at the end. The set design is immaculate, kids are a riot. All the Olivers are brilliant too, adult cast is exceptional
Sigourney Weaver and the ensemble on 11th January, 2025 at 2:30pm were excellent and received a standing ovation for their performances in The Tempest. Sigourney Weaver is amazing.
I hope that this production can make-it to Broadway! ...
Still struggling to understand why the actor playing Oliver, in the musical Oliver, would bow 4th from last in the middle of the pack! Maybe there’s some rule about top billing I’m unaware of, but it struck me odd in previews, and I’m surprised they haven’t changed it.
I don’t really know but probably something to do with ‘star’ billing and their age?
What Andrew said - billing. It is always about that, and most professional productions have had it this way for a while - it's always the decision of Matthew Bourne, who has directed / choreo'd this, and the previous few revivals of Oliver on the West End. I too am of the opinion that Oliver should bow AFTER Dodger and Nancy
Masterpiece saw it twice onondon And three times in Broadway will Be back again for repeats !
Great video, happy new year! (Out of curiosity: who was Oliver this performance? I know they have to rotate Olivers, I'm just not sure. Different Dodger than what I usually have seen on here too)
Oliver was RAPHAEL KORNIETS. First time I’d seen him and I thought he was really good. Roger was Billy Byers the alternate. From the cast response I believe it might have been his first show. He was fine but not as good as Billy Jenkins.
@@andrewhowells8328 Oh nice!! Thanks for this mate, happy new year once again
What is this Oliver! ? Is it a play?
It’s a musical
Oliver is a musical by the great Lionel Bart, based on the Dickens novella of the same name (the musical premiered in 1960 in London, the novel was released in 1838 I believe).
Look out for new musical about Oliver Twist in 2025 touring the country called Twisted.
I was simply mesmerised by the whole cast, the star of the show included. I’ve read an awful lot of negative reviews but I think she is just being pigeonholed.
This is her perfect legit/classical song, beautiful x
I love the line “on the set of anything goes”
In the interval right now, absolutely incredible🫶🏻
Thank you for posting, would you not recommend this seat for the whole show
This is the right hand seat in a box of two. Whilst this seat wasn’t too bad, the seat next to it meant looking through the rails the whole time. You could not really see the back of the stage and missed a lot of stage right. However, you were very close, which I like. You could move the chairs around and you had your own private room just outside the box. So there were lots of pros and cons. When Nancy sings As Long As He needs Me, there is a point where she looked into the box and made eye contact and could have just been singing to me. I’d say it was worth it for that moment alone.
Sigourney ❤🤗🥰
Thanks for uploading this curtain call! Merry Christmas / Season's Greetings
Same to you!
Saudades dessa turnê do Roger.
I saw the second preview performance of Oliver at the Gielgud Theatre in London on Tuesday 17th December as well and it was absolutely fantastic

Looks extremely interesting! I'll be going towards the end of the run, very intrigued to see what they've done with it from this.
It was interesting but I enjoyed the 2nd half more than the first. They suggest getting a program as it helps follow the story and in hindsight they were probably right. As a first preview it will probably change a bit
I was there on that night, up in the Gods but nevertheless there. What a production! Sigourney was amazing and Mason Alexander Park, who I didn't know, was fantastic too. I loved everything about it and hope I can go again before the run ends.

Surprising they're using costumes as opposed to the black that has been a trademark of Jamie Lloyd's productions. Think we'll be seeing more of this in Much Ado About Nothing
It was a very clever and impressive start to the show using the curtain. The use of lighting on the set is brilliant and was used to divide the stage up. I don’t want to give anything away but I’ll be going back, I hope others enjoy it as much.
some very cool regietheater costumes going on! how did they utilise the set + especially the blue curtain that opens the show?
Good news, they filmed it for National Theatre live
❤
Wow she’s amazing and how everyone there front to the back are all able to see her. Love how she waves at her fans as she flys past. Absolutely stunning and beautiful I’m lost for words. 😊

6:34 Playout again for the second time
Where would be best to sit? Near the band or the other side? Thanks
@@rachelpeel3724 to be honest there wasn’t really a bad seat. A lot of things come out under the band so sit in the middle as close to the front as possible as there are lots of things going on right in front of you
