Excellent description of what each shoe is good at. Its useful to see what grades people are climbing in a shoe. The TX guide would be awsome I'm sure but its really narrow. Such a letdown given how well their approach shoes fit my wide feet so sizing down is possible. The TX2's felt too lightweight for long days in the Gores or other rocky days. I like the BoulderX which still get trashed after 3 years but would like to try the TX2 Evo which is the leather upper. I want something lighter and more nimble. I havent found them in my size to try on. Best of luck in the mountains.

Check out the Scarpa rapid approach shoe. They're kind of both and I absolutely love it.

Did you ever try the tx guide? I have wide toes and love the fit of the tx3. I got the guide a little while ago they are definitely narrow but I've found after a long breakin and putting a shoe stretcher in them that they eventually widen out. They feel like a hybrid approach/climbing shoe and requires the same breakin as a climbing shoe. They do grip and climb significantly better than the tx3.

I've tried on the TX Guide LEATHER, and they fit pretty similar to the TX3's to me. The og TX Guide seem too narrow for me: justinsimoni.com/2021/04/29/tx-guide-leather-vs-tx-3-sizing/

@@TheLongRangerim trying to decide between the mutant or the ultra raptor or both? Looking for something that will do a little of everything and leaning towards the mutant, i can't get myself to trust the smaller lugs on the ultra raptor. If you had to pick, which would you choose? Or would you get both like you already have.
      Thanks!

Will the ultra raptors get me up and down the crestones safely in summer conditions? Ive only used mine for class 2 so far. Mine have about 75 miles on them. Thanks

I think they'd be a good choice, as they have the Frixion White rubber on the bottom. The last time I did those mountains, I used the Mutant, which has the same rubber. The Ultra Raptors have a more minimal tread than the Mutant, so more of the rubber is going to make contact with the ground, giving you more traction.

I haven't myself! Looks to be a light hiker with that approach shoe outsole.

Did you describe your type of foot? Otherwise when you say its a great fitting shoe, it doesn' t mean much. Still, good review though. I get upset because so many reviews fail to talk about width and toe box.

My own foot in the La Sportiva Factory Retail Store’s Brannock Device - width is “D”, which works for La Sportiva’s, Medium/Wide fit and Tempo 2 Ergo last. Simplified - (not taking arch length in the equation for example) “D” is, “Medium/Wide” for La Sportiva Trailrunners.

Great video, im trying to get into scrambling so very informative.
You say “um” a lot in this video, this made it harder to watch as a result, quick edits to minimize this would help

You're welcome - and thank you for the constructive critique! You're right: I do say, "um" too much. I'll work on that - hard habit to shake! I need a "de-umify" plugin!
