    I think Talk is one of their best albums from 1994 onward because the music has passion and is cohesive with some beautiful tracks like I am Waiting and rocking songs like Real Love. Too many of their later albums had songs that seemed contrived without passion.
    Fly From Here is also one of their great later albums with many great passionate songs.
    Tormato and Magnification both had some great songs like Silent Wings of Freedom and Can You Imagine. However, both of these albums are terribly disjointed because they have a bunch of solo projects from the band members moshed together. Jon Anderson’s light airy songs disrupt the flow.
    My top 5:
    1. Going for the One
    2. Close to the Edge
    3. Fragile
    4. The Yes Album
    5. Relayer
    Honorable mention of Drama. A great rocking album that was exactly why Steve and Chris wanted to break away from Jon at that point in their careers.
    Jon Anderson’s dark side came out on Relayer. Definitely, their peak of creativity with the jazz element mixed into as Moraz played keyboards.

    I think 'time and a word' deserves more attention: 'then' is one of their best songs, and i also like very much everyday, astral traveller, time and a word... and think the medium level of all the songs is rather high.

    I had (and loved) all of the Yes albums up 'til Tormato, my last purchase. I agree with you - Tormato was stunningly bland (except for a few songs which were pretty good). I never bought or heard another Yes album after that one.....except for an Anderson/Buford/Wakeman/Howe (or whatever they were ridiculously called, haha!) album in the late '80s...... So I only know '70s Yes. I think my favorite Yes album was always Going For The One. But I also loved Close To the Edge and Topographic Oceans (well, 3/4 of it anyway, haha!).

    • @trannongoble7722
      @trannongoble7722  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I was not a fan of Asia or ABWH, it was just watered down Yes. I mostly, like you, enjoy the 70s era. Tremendous talent.

    Hey mate finally got to watch this one one of my favourite bands of all time aswell
    We seem to be totally on the same path musically
    Funny that the yes album was the first album that I ever got and it’s very very special to me I think that I may have to put it above close to the edge just
    I was surprised that you put
    Tales from Topographic Oceans so high I always struggled to find anything on that one
    But you put the debit so high and I LOVE that album!
    In most videos it’s ranked so low and I don’t understand why because it’s absolutely beautiful
    Good job!!
    Police next for me

    Entertaining watch! Flaccid is an appropriate word for Heaven and Earth, let me throw in "lightweight." For me, my number one has gotta be Tales, however Relayer and CTTE aren't far behind.

    I've worked really hard to forget every note of Heaven And Earth. Talk may be worse.Fly From Here - Return Trip is a much better recored though I still hate half of it.

  • @mordantfilms
    @mordantfilms 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your take on Heaven and Earth had me in tears! I love Yes, but I skipped Tormayo 😂 and I barely listen to Drama, but that's as far as I'm willing to go. So while they had some good moments throughout some of their later output, I have never bothered committing listening to an entire record, for the most part, especially in the last years. Out of morbid curiosity I checked out some live clips from the past decade and main, is it cringey as hell. From there I had to check out Heaven and Earth, knowing what I was in for. It was worse than I could imagine. So your opinion of it was great to hear and really funny! I dig your channel, keep it up!

    I don't know Yes music very well but I have a lot of respect for the band as musicians (especially Steve Howe) !!! I heard a couple of songs from Close to the edge and The Yes album and it sounded good enough to me !! Good video Trannon !!!

    • @trannongoble7722
      @trannongoble7722  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have always been a strong fan of the 70s Yes , but afterward, I can do with our without. And yes, Steve Howe is remarkable, but he also had Chris Squire, Bruford and Wakeman with him -- all superior musicians. Yes was really a supergroup, musically.

    Agree with your top three. The Yes Album was also my first Yes album, and cohesively it is better than Fragile. In a better timeline, Yes would have broken up after Relayer and never gotten back together again.
