There are expectations on how polite or casual your speech should be in a certain situation, and adopting an inappropriate register is seen as rude or crass. A newscaster, like any sort of "official" communication, would be expected to use a formal level of language, so dropping a very casual word in there is sort of the same as swearing accidentally.

"Hot as shit" is way more toned down, and I'd say it fits better than the translated title. Japanese profanity isn't as heavy-hitting as English's. To add a little levity I'd say one could also translate クソ暑い to "hot as balls"😂
