    This video is linked to Rider Planet, despite being old it does a good job of illustrating the area. I do have several newer videos in HD that are trail # specific. I also have a Gifford Playlist at my channel. Perhaps in 2023 I'll make an updated high tech video for the entire area. Thanks for watching.

    The trails at Gifford in many places are steep, get lots of water and a ton of use. So, those trails do need "service". Fortunately for all of us, there is a guy that is named Rollie that maintains trails with a loyal cast of volunteers. He works with the USFS to get the job done. He deserves our support if it should ever be needed. -TigerTanker

      WOHVA.ORG is a tax deductible non profit that works with all things off road in Washington State. They have been using some state of the art machinery along with muscle to fix and maintain trails at Gifford this last year or so. If you are looking to financially support the cause, look no further than WOHVA (Washington Off Highway Vehicle Association)

    The Gifford Pinchot is my favorite place to ride. Just did trail #118 to Hamilton Buttes. Yozoo is one of my favorites. I've been on the Boundary, Langille and others on the west side of the river.

    Those switch backs are somethin. If they were any steeper they would be real pucker moments. Well in truth a couple of those would be for me.

    Is this a multi-use trail? Did you see any mountian bikes, hikers or horses? Great video.

    • @dagsterblaster4973
      @dagsterblaster4973  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a multi use trail, the area has many trails that are off limits to motorized. And still, the hikers and bikers the last two years have been increasingly giving the stink eye as we ride by them. Oddly enough, if they only knew that it's the moto crowd that clears the trails after every storm. I suspect that these trails will be off limits to moto in the next year or three. Folks would be wise to ride now because it's going to end sooner or later.

      @@dagsterblaster4973 I'm a mountain biker and I don't want these trails to become off limits to Moto. I actually like riding down Moto trails because the root shelves and pocket berms are an absolute blast to ride downhill mtb on. Furthermore, I'm well aware that there's no way any of these corridors would be continuously open if motos weren't clearing the blowdown every year. Just look at the Goat Mountain/Green River/Tumwater area, that was completely impassible for a decade before Trans Cascadia opened it back up for a preview of what will happen to the Dark Divide if motos are kicked out. I honestly don't get why people are so goddamned uptight about it. I hear you coming and then you're gone. Not a big deal. Thanks for reading my essay.

    You running a Clake?

    • @dagsterblaster4973
      @dagsterblaster4973  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, virtually nobody that rides the nasty stuff in the NW uses one. Really need a clutch here, no roll backwards thingy. Have had some friends as intermediates that were then going to expert level that had them and they all removed them. I have one, maybe two friends that have one still but one in particular got about 99% of the way up a nasty rock and then it went backwards and cased the bike, cracked the oil case.

      @@dagsterblaster4973 I think you are confusing a Clake (left hand rear brake) with a Rekluse (auto clutch).

      I think that is when I broke several bones in my left foot kicking a rock. Over two years now, foot still hurts, hard to walk barefoot.

    This idea that riding on trails when its wet is making them that much worse I dont agree with. They get rutted in the dry too. If the trail is getting rutted it means there is not enough trails and traffic density is too high. The rain does far more damage than tires too. Look at any unmaintained forest road and they will have ruts way deeper than dirt bike trails. I'm not saying bikes dont make ruts. I'm just saying its not significantly different than any other time. Lots of trails in Oregon are open year around and they are not canyons.
    Pucker factor is high on much of this trail! thumbs up

    • @dagsterblaster4973
      @dagsterblaster4973  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Many of the trails in Oregon were built by Dave Hiatt and according to his build specifications. He makes trails that will not be damaged by water, routes them specifically for that. Water, frequent use, slope are the primary factors of trail erosion. Agreed about wore out trails being a sign of use. A good example would be Taneum and Little Naches. Same place, but Taneum side is far more used and is the side with all of the whoops. Making trails is each of our responsibility as riders, they aren't going to make themselves! In fact, in 30 minutes I'm off to build a trail...

      Dirt bikes rip up trails in dry or wet, and then the water flows down them and it continues to get worse. Dirt bikes can cut in nice trails at first but after a few years the moto's ruin the trails for everyone else and never go back to repair what they've destroyed.

      @@Clickmaster5k Well, Jimmy is right. Poor riding skills certainly don't help trails either. If you need to spin your tire to clear a switchback, well, that's weak.
