This was super helpful! I am an adventure wedding photographer based in Utah and was asked to shoot a wedding out here. You’re analysis of the lighting made my life so much easier and gave me a great idea of what sunset on this trail has to offer. Thank you!
was there yesterday, no clouds and incredible sunset. stayed past 10:00 to see the neowise comet which was cool, lots of people though trying to capture the once in a life time experience
Mark - thanks for the comment. Yeah, that composition was a kind of afterthought - but when i thought about it, it made alot more sense. Thanks. I also like the drama and mood of the second photo. It is not your "typical" composition from there.
Great shot of Mount Rainier and the lookout. I took a short hike up to Burnt Mountain in the southern Cascades on Friday. It was beautiful until about 8pm when I got socked in by clouds. You are correct about the snow this year. Good advice on the ice axe.
Thanks for the reply John. It's always good to be out. I would have rather had the axe with me when I was there last month, but I didn't. I took a fall one time on a scramble of Red Mountain near Snoqualmie pass and had to arrest with a trekking pole. It worked, or else I wouldn't be typing this reply (or doing anything else for that matter).
This was way back in June. I was actually up there with three other people, but they weren't in any of my shots. I was also there for sunset, so most of the people had already left. Road still being closed before trailhead kept many people away.
Clear outside is a fantastic little app, not only if you are interested in photography, but also if interested in astronomy. (I'm interested in both, so perfect 😉) wieder mal ein super video, tim! Tolle fotos und interessante informationen über die vulkane dort. (writing in German, because i know you understand it very well 😉)
Clear outside does work well for astronomy too! I have a general interest, but mostly with binoculars. I don't really do any astrophotography. Thanks for watching and glad you found the volcano stuff interesting. Mein Deutsch ist sehr einfach! :)
Too funny! I was going to go this weekend but not when it's cloudy. This weekend marks my 1 yr introduction to hiking and High Rock is where it all started. This time last year there was no snow. My dad and I hiked it because many years ago he did it packing a VHS camera. Somewhere in the family movie archives there's a video of the lookout volunteer talking to my dad about the clouds while measuring humidity. When the weather gets clear, I want to camp at Cora lake and hike up to the lookout. Great video! That sunset shot is awesome and I liked the little instructional towards the end.
Too funny. High Rock is a great destination. With the road closed due to snow, it makes for about double (or more) the distance. I would expect the snow to melt-out this coming week and the road be passable all the way to the parking lot. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment.
Love the insight. Planning to head here tomorrow, fingers crossed on the snow melting! Also, did you have reception throughout your entire hike? I heard a phone notification at the top.
Thanks for watching. There isn't phone reception (Verizon) on the trail - only at the top (at least for me). Have an enjoyable trip. The road should be fully melted out anytime now.
Great shot!
Awesome video

That second composition down the ridge line is fantastic. Beautiful.
Yeah - that one turned out to be one of my favorites. The composite worked great. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment.
