I was actually a little nervous for y'all on this one... Cuz the nest was just so close to the edge of the water. Gotta be quite the rush!

A buddy of mine has an Ostrich Farm on the Stono River near Charleston. She has a golf cart that she has "armored" with plywood , like a small tank with a hole cut in the floor . She drives up to and over the nest to collect the eggs . You would need something smaller, but since you know that this is a when , not an if situation why not invest in a little armor for pickup along with all that great support ?!

    • @earldapearl5509

Major difference in an Ostrich and a Saltwater Crocodile, still a really smart way for Her to get the bird eggs though.

A croc could probably get in the hole.

If you had a crane you could drop a solid box around it, wouldn't count on a vehicle for scenarios like this though.

Yep, totally agree with everything you said being an Aussie myself and knowing what I do know about Salties (Salt-water Crocs) (which isn't a whole lot) is yes they are big, aggressive when provoked and have a bite that can easily take off an arm or leg. If they can get you underwater, they can potently kill you. The best advice I can give anyone is don't mess with them unless you are 100% sure you know what are doing and even then proceed with caution.

Thanks for all the great ideas on tortoise care. I got my desert box tortoises to eat greens with a fishing pole. I tied tender purslane or skinned nopales with 2lb line on an ugly stick and dragged it in front of them. It triggers the dinner time response. They still wont eat it unless it moves. Got to see Saltys on the Daintree River Queensland mud crabbing with my cousins. Had a 6 Pac of Victoria bitters before I got in the dingy. Gal from Florida just graduated University Oceanography was on vacation up stream few months before I arrived. She went down to the dock one night from the cabin, Salty took her right off the dock. Locals found the male that took her. Found her rings in stomach. Cousin jokes while I'm setting mud crab traps (See it now local paper crock takes cousin visiting from the states!) 4 foot deep channels on the mud bank from crock tail trail, Low tide.

they could crawl through the wholes in the fence of the babies hatched in the enclosure. they aren't native to Florida but, I'm sure they would thrive. the only thing that would be a positive is that depending on the temp the eggs will be one gender or the other. so they can't breed together. I'm not sure if they could breed with the Gator of Flordia since they are Crocs.
