Hello, yes. I would definitely a little earlier than we did. But also keep in mind that depending on the weather, if it’s cloudy, then you may not get the best view in Machu Picchu. I think staying in Aguas calientes does work out better to get an earlier start BUT, I loved staying at Casa Andina and the view there is beautiful. So I would not change that. Aguas Caliente is a very small town. I don’t think I would stay after, it’s such a small town. Hope this helps.
My friends and I did it just under 2 hrs. Granted we were pressed for time because of our return train and stopping for photos. But we did get to see pretty much all of it. I would say 3hrs would be good enough so you have time to explore a little more.
