  • Can you hike to Machu Picchu unguided? YES! And in this video we are going to show you the CHEAPEST way to trek to Machu Picchu unguided.
    We decided to trek the Salkantay Pass because unlike the Inca Trail you don't have to take a registered guide and this saved us hundreds of dollars, plus, it was a fun adventure to do on own and just felt more like a challenge than if we had guides and porters arranging everything for us.
    So if you're wondering whats the best way to trek to Machu Picchu whilst on a budget (total cost was $173 p/person including entrance to Machu Picchu!).

    So beautiful, bathrooms anywhere? How do you get along so well considering the tough conditions?

    • @MaxandJacqueline
      @MaxandJacqueline  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s such a stunning hike! Yes there were some bathrooms where the groups break for lunch but they were not super common. Nature wee’s are required just remember to take your toilet paper with you!!! I saw wayyy to much toilet paper littered on the trail 🫶

    Incredible video guys, will help us greatly to do the salkantay trek unguided in August. Quick question though : how easy was it to find accommodation along the route? I love to plan everything in advance, and it stresses me deeply to not know where I'll sleep for the night.
    Again, awesome video and loved the cost breakdown at the end, super helpful

    Love the video! Do you mind sharing the name of the first hostel you stayed in Soraypampa?

    • @MaxandJacqueline
      @MaxandJacqueline  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! Yes it’s Soraypampa Hostel, it’s not on Google Maps or I thinks it has a different name but it is directly in front of the entrance to the Humantay Lake hike, there is a little tienda out front you can’t miss it 🫶

    In Peru, cheap disappoint it. Therefore, it is always better to prefer what is expensive and to access what is amazing.

    • @MaxandJacqueline
      @MaxandJacqueline  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We cannot agree with this! We found many cheaper options of all sorts of things throughout Peru that were amazing! More expensive doesn’t always mean better unfortunately

    I am Dominican meaning I come from a third world country that sustains itself thanks to tourism, therefore I understand that the people in the cusco area depend on tourism, therefore if I were to make that trip I would gladly pay 250 dollars for the trip and leave a great tip to my guides, you guys not only found the very fair 5 day trip which included food, housing and a guide to be expensive (250usd seems a pretty fair price to me) which is ok if you do not have the money, but you also try to make it look as if you didn't pay the money because you didn't want the guides or the animals to be exploited???. So the logic is that it is better to not give the guides any work? great joke. other than that, great video.

    • @MaxandJacqueline
      @MaxandJacqueline  14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Interesting take on that. Tourism is very important to the economy but we can’t pretend that the guides are fairly paid in every company when the information clearly suggests otherwise. We found a company that did fairly pay their guides and the cost was $750USD per person. So your argument of paying $250 to support the guides is invalid because clearly those companies do not charge enough to fairly pay their guides.
      We supported the local economy by purchasing food from the markets and local restaurants on the route, by staying in the hostels, by booking the transport with the locals, we paid less but we know our money went directly into the pockets of the locals.

    Well the name of the tour is prívate. Prívate of food and first camp no sanitarios, no clean the Rivers are poluded why do you recomendé d to drink the water of the streams the are many horses drinking that water…so, you didnt spend money to buy water? No guide in MachuPicchu no thanks. Miserable organized for a hundred dollars I prefer to go with a Company.
