***YES, I KNOW THE CABLES NEED TO RUN THROUGH THE LOWER ZIP!!!***
I forever make videos without thinking through what I'm going to do or say as I have very little spare time! :D This is my first time unpacking and assembling the Carcoon, I'm sure it'll be much faster and cables put in the correct place in the future!
I would highly recommend one of these things. Speaking directly with Carcoon in the UK, I'm told 24/7 use will cost £30 per year in electricity.
I was looking at getting groundwork, a concrete base and a timber garage, this was going to be £3-4000. I live in a rented home and couldn't justify that in case I moved but desperately wanted my investment out of the weather all year round. This Carcoon was £585 (size 4). I believe it is guaranteed for three years and spare parts are available.
I ordered from Demon Tweeks in the UK. Do check the 'Lead Time' when you pick your size, as if you need it in less than 4-8 weeks, you may want to re-think. Mine took 4 weeks to be delivered from date of order as they are made to order. Prices at Demon Tweeks, as of Dec 2019, are from £437 to £730.
    Size 2 Carcoon 320cm x 150cm x 169cm
    Size 3 Carcoon (regular) 425cm x 160cm x 169cm
    Size 3 Carcoon (large) 425cm x 200cm x 169cm
    Size 4 Carcoon 470cm x 200cm x 169cm * featured here
    Size 5 Carcoon 505cm x 200cm x 169cm
    Size 6 Carcoon 560cm x 200cm x 169cm
    Size 7 Carcoon 610cm x 200cm x 169cm

    Hi,
Thanks for your video. It really helped me with storing my '88 Classic Mini.
You pointed out some of the issues I was encountering 👍.
Please post any additional video's you feel would be useful.
    Thanks again,
    Tony.

      Hi Thomas
      Many thanks.
I’m actually in the process of compiling a a couple of videos about the 480. We (the forum) are seeing quite an influx of people wanting to buy but ending up with a LOT of expensive work on their hands which inevitably leads to it being sold on again or sat deteriorating further. So I’m hoping to go really in-depth with what to look for when you’re thinking of buying and viewing and a general ‘what you get’ on all the different model variants.
95% of these for sale recently are traders/people assuming ‘it’s older, this makes it rare, this makes it £9k’ for an un-MOT’d corroded beast worth £500 at best. Really, they know next to nothing about the car but....chancers are alive and well! Hoping to help people out there so they don’t fall for it. As with most classics, it’s a never ending money pit of (wedge-shaped) love!
I’ve got about 3 other peoples input to sort through and get in order too but hopefully it’ll be sorted in the next couple of months and be the most comprehensive and factual information available. 🙂

Ok so the power lead I could t see on your video, ( which is much clearer than this vid) where did you leave the lower pack so that it doesn’t get in the way of the zip. I have my lower pack inside the drying zip.

I had the Carcoon from Dec 2019 to Sept 2021. As it was in a very muddy area in winter, it did get messy. I think if you're not in such a bad place, the rest of it was great. I had to often stuff it into an outbuilding etc and it did cope with that. I notice a few tiny tears in the base but this, again, was likely my terrain (although it was placed on carpet at all times). The zip pull was the only thing that went. I just put a heavy ring through. Not really a substantial enough pull for the size of zip and I had my car in and out a lot over summer and used it all year round. I'd have another if I ever needed one.

I have an indoor Carcoon and have ordered an outdoor one. Since ordering (nearly two months ago) I've not heard a thing. They don't reply to emails and do not answer their phone. Did you order yours from Carcoon or elsewhere? If Carcoon, how long did you have to wait for delivery? Thanks.

    • @Edie_Fox
      @Edie_Fox  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi.
I ordered my via Demon Tweeks as I called the Carcoon company direct and can’t say I was too impressed with someone answering the phone, throwing it to one side for a bit and then eating down the phone at me (I’m mad for good customer service!). Although, if you need spares, it’ll be them who you eventually need to go to I think.
It took about a month from order to delivery. On the DT website there was a lead time. Just looking now, it says ‘stock due soon, order now for dispatch in 29 days’. About the same. On the Carcoon site there is no real time span given. It just says orders will be put on a waiting list. There is a Covid/reduced staff at statement on their site too. So, although 2 months is a bit of a long time, it’s probably still on that list. Have you contacted them directly to try and find out an estimate?
      Hope you get sorted. 🙂

@@Edie_Fox thanks for the info. I have emailed Carcoon via two different email addresses I’ve found for them, I’ve phoned numerous times and left messages but so far no contact with them at all. I have no idea when my order will be sent or if it will be sent. I contacted Demon Tweeks. They were very helpful and got back to me very quickly. They said they have been given a date of early March but also said they can’t give a firm date until they have them. Sounds like they don’t get much info from them either.

@@autopower1971 Yes, I think DT only order them when they have an order too - made to order so-to-speak, as, I assume Carcoon do too by the looks of it. They don't seem to hold stock. So, yes, you'd probably be on the same time scale as DT unfortunately. Annoying when you obviously wanted it for the worst of 'winter'. Maybe you could write a letter and send by signed for delivery requesting someone PLEASE contacts you? I can't see them very happy to refund but even if they did, they are the Carcoon gatekeepers! No other choice. :/ I Hope you get it by April.

Mary Ellis Great. I use two or three cheap dehumidifiers inside too as the area where the car is stored is very open and temperatures frequently drop below zero in winter and this really helped keep the interior perfect. In general, the Carcoon is absolutely of benefit in terms of preservation. Although expensive (although cheaper than a garage of course!), well worth the money.
