If you've missed the last few episodes, we decided to buy a cabin, move into it and get comfortable for the winter. It has been a LONG 4 years of self building our home and it's time we start living again...with winter finally behind us, it's time we set our sights BACK to the shipping container home and finish what we started!

How did we end up here?
It all began with a year of full-time travel, embracing the van life until the world shifted, and we had to adjust accordingly. With travel no longer an option but determined to stay productive, we transformed our compact mobile abode into a self-sufficient off-grid dwelling that fulfilled all our needs. Recognizing the uncertainty of the current tiny home, we quickly realized a permanent residence was the most sensible choice. Over the past three years, we have meticulously overseen every aspect of the project ourselves, planning the construction while simultaneously setting up the off-grid property to sustain our future food requirements. For the last two years we've lived in a Geodesic Dome, which has allowed us to be comfortable (expect for the winter months), while we realize our shipping container home dream. However, this will mark our 4th winter with stable electricity, running water, or a flushing toilet and time has come to come up with a new plan going forward.

Can you believe that the day is FINALLY here? We're officially kicking things off with the container home again. I'm sure you could tell from the video but we're pretty excited for everything that's to come...plus, having help with this process and learning from Dumpy is making it so fun. I am probably your eldest follower. Get your air sickness bags ready. I am 72 years old and have been fallowing you since you started your dome home. You are such a great couple and to change your rentals from Air B and B's into permanent rentals demonstrates how much you care for people during this housing shortage. So good to see Charlie doing so well... Your "boys" are so cute and they have wonderful lives with you. Anyway, I'm glad that the engineers have found a solution to the stairwell. This container building has had many ups and downs, but you do roll with the punches. To me you are young boys who have worked so hard during college and as young business men. You both work so very hard on projects and refuse to give up until you're finished. Your differences complement each other! I look forward to watching your weekly programs and am somewhat lost when you take a much needed vacation. Please enjoy the ride and the deeper your love continues to grow. There are videos in which they explain in detail how they have acquired what they have. Until I’m proven otherwise I will continue to defend them, though they don’t need that from me, they have earned that, too. 😀
@ruarifinn notice I said "privilege " not "entitlement." Privilege is not exclusive of working hard. Be that as it may, it does seem to be taken for granted even in the statements of trying to save money as thousands and tens of thousands get spent to fix a continuous stream of problems.

Great to see! Pivotting is part of life, and if the land gets too much again, or winter is coming and the construction is delayed (gawd forbid), you have the relaxation of the lake to recharge.
EXACTLY!! We absolutely love the dome but make no mistake, it's 1 room without a bathroom or shower. The fact we lived in there for years still shocks me! It's a wonderful spot during this time of year for a night or two during the winter but NO thanks!
After all the setbacks and do-overs, isn't it amazing how something as minor as a deck that's actually built properly can be such a huge win? It's starting to come together, guys! Looking great!

One of the main things that I love about you and your content is that you never leave your audience hanging. We get to feel really satisfied every time there's a new video with a project. You start the project at the beginning of the video and we see it be complete at the end. I know it's not this way all the time, but it's just so bloody good to watch! 🥰 Love you guys!

On a serious note, the deck looks incredible! I love that shade of stain with black and with the glass it looks almost urban, so the juxtaposition with all the nature is perfection!
Got a HUGE tip for you guys... if you don't own one, buy yourself an electric rechageable blower to use for small cleanups on decks, and even for cleaning sawdust and stuff from inside the structure... since there is not exhaust involved, it makes it so easy to to just keep one of these in your "broom closet" and whip it out to keep your decks clean. No exhaust in your face, you can keep it handy inside the house, they work so well! I even use it to dust the stone wall in my foyer. Just open the front and back door, put an exhaust fan in the back door, and I blow all the dust off that wall.
I keep My rechargeable Ryobi by the front door. It makes it so easy and fast to blow off the porch.
You guys are just an awesome representation of how two men CAN build a life together and be in love. You're showing a true partnership with how you work together on everything. I'm 58 and lost the love of my life 10 years ago. I came across you guys many years ago when you were traveling here in California. I can pop in and check on you guys and it always seems to be a such a pivotal time and I get caught up. I only wish I had you guys as role models when I was young. Stay true to yourselves and always be honest with us and each other. Congrats!
I lost the love of my life in what will be 12 yrs this coming Sept 16th at 7PM. It's been hard carrying on without that voice and love and support beside me. I still cry dry tears about it. Wet tears have been exhausted. I have zero desire to try and find a replacement. It just would not work and it would make me even more miserable.

Not the same, but I lost an earring my parents gave me 17 yrs ago before Christmas. First week of March I got into the car that needed a battery jump since that week and there it was. I can absolutely relate to the feelings of relief after months of wondering!

It's funny what we find that we are attached to. Your camera is worth way more in money than a set of spoons I thought I had lost in a move. They must have represented the life I was leaving behind, because when they turned up, I sat down and cried for a full five minutes.

OMG I know I am late but I have to say, thank the universe we have made it to AG1 season. AG1 season means amazing work/magic is about to happen. Especially after a good rest. Boys, human and 4 legged and of course Squirrel queen of the universe, you all are just going to thrive and this project is going to be a crazy emotional and physical rollercoaster, but now only in the best way. I am so excited for AG1 season.😊

What wonderful news! A workable solution for the staircase tower. Working with a craftsman that you know and trust is the best feeling (it takes so much pressure off and you can just enjoy the experience of building). Always enjoy GOOD News ... and that camera looks expensive so I can guess how happy you are to have re-discovered it. I have reached "that age" where I tend to forget where I put something unless I make sure to put it exactly where it always was. If I just put it down somewhere because I've been distracted by a phone call or the doorbell ringing ... then sometimes it is days before I "find" it ... and I usually find it because I am looking for yet another thing I've misplaced! The "joy" of aging!!!

Love the gentleman who is helping with your home. He reminds me of my Dad , the maman he hired to build the 2 story garage that was supposed to house my Dad's huge computer system that never made it inside because when I moved home after living with my brother and his wife and was the Nanny for my nephew during the day and I took university classes at night towards my degree in early childhood education and computer technology. I was also taking classes that I needed before concentrating on my core classes so I took physics and my first real art classes which I loved. If I hadn't become a teacher I would have loved studying Geology or physics and even meteorology. Anywho once I moved home I needed a bedroom and Dad decided that I could have it over the garage and basically the builder kept making it larger which was fine for me even though I didn't need that much space. I got to pick out the paint color, flooring in the bathroom and how the 6 foot walk in closet was set-up. I had plenty of room to setup my sewing machine and crafting space with room to spare. I added a lounge area to include my stereo system. When I had friends over.( My parents had sold our childhood home and had moved 7 hours away to the mountains in southern Virginia and the house only had 3 bedrooms which was why I moved in with my brother and sister in law because they didn't know how to take care of a baby like I did after 8+ years of caring for babies newborn to age 16 years old.) and a sweet neighbor who lived a cross the street from my husband and I when we bought our first home.
Guys, a glass railing is a finished feature. Something like this is often left for after siding. I wish you luck. It looks great. All the best.
