Bram ..I could listen to you all day and not get tired. You are in my opinion one of the best swing pianists I've ever heard and I don't say that lightly!
Herein' lies the problem. Jelly Roll Morton did not play stride, although he did swing. At Tatum could play stride, but for the majority of his post 1940 carer, chose not to. Fats Waller never stopped playing stride from 1929 until the day he died. Of the 3, Fats is the only appropriate comparison as far as stride pianists /stride piano is concerned
