    My B. I forgot to mention that I will not do "Let's Plays" or "Guides" on the current game because those videos are literally everywhere and also I get sidetracked when I play a lot so I never really liked doing "Let's Plays." But thank you everyone so much for the suggestions so far! Keep em coming! :)

      False Swipe Gaming that's fine. Most can't do it right anyway. What I want is some sort of pokemon vs series. Compare pokemon to yugioh cards. Or wait, what if you talk about ideas for pokemon games, what would you change about them? Make a new type of exp share? Make a better endgame? Pokemon get 5 moves now, but one of them has to be an hm move? Etc.

      @@travisswartz3587 As today yes, but in Gen 2 the only exploders were Snorlax, Forretress, Electrode and Golem, and none of them could 1HKO a full HP Snorlax with Self-Destruct.

      @@HannibalKantter You're missing quite a few. Golem(even graveler), cloyster, muk, and exeggutor are all able to 1HKO a full health Snorlax with explosion. Forretress, weezing, and Steelix come very close to being able to. Also is Ubers a mew with explosion is able to 1HKO a full health snorlax. Also snorlax doesnt learn explosion, only self destruct.

      Not to mention that from gen 1-4 Explosion and Selfdestruct halfs the defense of its target(s) before applying damage which is one of the reasons even Gengar was used with Explosion up to Gen 4 before it was nerfed since it likely was too broken for doubles.

  • @Sheldon-senpai
    @Sheldon-senpai 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    You see, Snorlax's trajectory has always fascinated me.
    At first, he was one of the most powerful Pokémon of all time. Back in Gen 1, he was one of the "Big 3" of RBY OU and undoubtedly the best Pokémon of the game, even surpassing all of Ubers.
    Then, it all went down as soon as Gen 3 hit. OK in RSE OU, confined to live in DPP OU despite having no good tools there, then finding himself as the king of BW UU only to lose that spot when megas came in and several other former BW OU stars took the least he had and meeting his end by being doomed to last as a lower-tier Pokémon in Gen 7 and 8.
    However, for some reason, his popularity in Battle Spot Singles rose. It might seems nuts that an OU that doesn't ban beasts such as Mega-Gengar, Blaziken, Mega-Salamence, Pheromosa or Aegislash is the right place for our bulky buddy, but he somehow works with a pretty unlikely set of Gluttony + Recycle + Iapapa Berry that Smogon OU would call gimmicky.
    In Doubles he also got some pretty cool achivements, with several placements in VGC and even being banned from Smogon Doubles.
    That's why I really like Snorlax's history in Competitive Pokémon. It shows that, as soon as the meta let them do what they can, every Pokémon can be considered a top-tier threat.

    • @dragonfistX200
      @dragonfistX200 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gen 1 was best time to be a normal type. Nothing in gen 1 ou resisted or was immune to normal move outside rhydon/golem(which could be hit by blizzard) and gengar(which could be hit by earthquake). It was second strongest normal type behind snorlax but with high 110 speed,high crit ratio(thanks to its speed) and of course stab hyper beam. Gen 2 is where his downfall as ou king began. No more hyper beam not requiring recharge if it kills a mon, no more high crit ratio, rest/sleep talk was common, special split made its sp.atk from decent to bad, and biggest thing, introduction of steel types like skarmory, fortress, steelix made it much harder to sweep.

    • @avalencia9628
      @avalencia9628 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I honestly believe its due to the lack of a Fighting move, it'd have so much coverage if it would have one
      It can't touch Bulky Dark types, and it can only hit steel and rock types using predictable Earthquake, and its Rock movepool isn't THAT great. Overall, Tauros' downfall its due to the lack of a better movepool

    • @DaakkuuYRS
      @DaakkuuYRS 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Now I looked up on Machamp. It has only 3 fighting moves on gen 1. Low Kick is at only 50 power. Submisson is on 80 but it makes a recoil damage and Sesmic Toss is fixed damage.

    • @dragonfistX200
      @dragonfistX200 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah fighting types were completely bad in gen 1 ou. High hump kick was only decent fighting move back then but only hitmonlee learned it. Didn't help that psychic types were rampant in ou and fighting types had no super effective move to hit on most of them.

Very few people played gen 1 & 2 competitively due to being too young to travel/understand the metagame, etc. You used whatever looked cool to you.

      @solomonbundy2795 7 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Tauros was so good in Gen 1 because Hyper Beam was so good (Hyper beam refreshed if you got a KO). Tauros had the second highest attack for a normal type behind snorlax at 100 base atk, although it had 110 speed to compensate making it the best Hyper beam user. The only viable pokemon to outspeed it were Alakazam and Starmie.
      You have to remember pokemon was very different. The game was pretty much composed of just a few attacks Hyper Beam, Blizzard, Earthquake, and Psychic as well as Rest and Thunder Wave. The best Pokemon were generally the ones who had STAB for those attacks.

Be they history segments like this one, or a new variety where creative and modern applications of the unloved mons gets discussed, I'd be all for it!! Some Pokemon just really don't get any attention, but they so deserve it; sure, everyone's seen the classic MegaZard-X sweep, but it's delightfully crazy seeing a Pokemon destroy someone before they have time to even remember that it is in fact a Pokemon.

    You seem quite knowledgable on the topic of competitive pokemon gaming. There's this format I know from a german Warcraft 3 player (ITrainHum) called "past cast" where he takes the replays from a past tournament or high ladder matches and casts the game as if it was live while giving hindsight info on the metagame and popular strategies. It's quite entertaining to do these little trips to the past and I think it could work well for pokemon matches too, provided you can get the footage.
