More random Pokémon TCG Knowledge. While Exeggutor never made too big a splash in the Pokémon TCG, its preveolution DID, to the point that it was given a secret rare shiny form as a reprint. This Exeggcute wasn't used for attacking, but rather its ability Propagation. This ability allowed you to add Exeggcute back to your hand from the discard pile. While that doesn't sound like much, there are a lot of Pokémon Cards that you can only use by discarding cards from your hand. Items like Ultra Ball and Abilities like Empoleon's Dive and Draw require discard cards from your hand. Having a card that you can easily discard over and over again allows you to reduce the cost of these other cards.

Most of the time, they're decent. Some like Garchomp, Salamence, and Hydreigon ruled a certain tier at one point or another while others like Haxorus, Druddigon, Flygon, and Goodra fell to the wayside.
@@goldenhydreigon4727 Haxorus is an interesting case. During the course of the story it's one of the best pokemon you can get in any game, and you'd think it'd have all the tools to be amazing in competitive, but it's speed is just slightly too low, it's defenses are just slightly too fragile, and it's just barely not there for OU.
I’m using this comment to request a Gen 7 Pokémon....Lurantis!!!! Depending on how u train one and what nature it has it could go either way, it’s infamous in game Totem trial, and the only Pokémon to be a fashion statement in the Ultra games!
Not to be the big bummer but...Smogon literally forgot about Walrein. They seriously haven't done ANY information update on the poor walrus since gen4 because it's not a popular meta mon and they'll likely never do anything. Now compare this to the UBs that within a week got extensive play-coverage and analysis. Fuck Smogon.
Post Bote That was only because of their alolan forms. But they can only give us an insight since the gen 7 meta still isn't over yet. Hence why some of the previous pokemon didn't get that coverage
I've been binge-watching this series recently and I'd love to see a breakdown of Heatran's effectiveness across generations. It's mentioned a lot in previous videos for its status as a bulky Fire-type with assorted status and Hidden Power usage. A dissection of its competitive history would make for a pretty interesting video and also add some much-needed context regarding Heatran's viability for people who watch regularly but aren't as familiar with the competitive scene.
Not unhealthy, it's just a glass cannon. The fact that it's players who decide to ban it or not is probably the worst part, just because they always make some ridiculous story (normally due to being salty). The thing is that dugtrio is very predictable: trap and then earthquake. Bulky water types make dugtrio's life hell and anything not weak to ground and with proper defense or that carries will-o-wisp since it's attack is not that amazing. So yeah, Dugtrio might be annoying but because of arena trap, but with proper prediction, it's pretty much dead
Both of the abilities are incredibly powerful; especially considering how the respective pokemon uses said ability. Plus, these days, both of the abilities are banned to Ubers.
Eternity_Lotus yeah Smogon went down hill in gen 6 and it's terrible the moment they started complex banning I knew that format was going to die. It's dumb to say you can only play like this. It's petty and causes more and more Pokemon to become useless and/or banned
One of the best designed Pokémon ever in terms of stats and movepool. It’s a shame power creep caught up to Exeggutor, but you gotta admire just how many tricks the palm tree has.
While it didn't see much competitive use, I still love using Alolan Eggy on any trick room team in any tier. It's always worth consideration for me simply because it's one of the few decent trick room setters besides Magearna that don't share a psychic typing and make you stack weaknesses on your team. I personally ran a fully mixed set with no bulk investment: 252 attack, 252+ spatk with trick room, Draco Meteor, earthquake or flamethrower, and explosion with Dragonium Z. Too bad about that 4x ice weakness making switching in to water types a big risk, though.
Let explosion half opponents defense again and nerf the base attack of Explosion to gen 1 standard seems like a option to me (or just raise Explosion power to 340). Explosion was really strong in gen 2 and back then you can argue explosion being necessary for offensive teams to exists since everything was so bulky. But with the game giving the players more tools to break opponents defenses made Explosion less mandatory, and just kinda overwhelmingly strong tool so they nerfed it which makes sense. But since Explosion is only worth it if you are taking something else with you it's never worth it beside on suicide leads nowadays and they strictly belong on a hyper-offensive teams who depend on meta-trends to be effective.

Outside of competitive play maybe. But having a 4X weakness to both fighting and ground is abysmal. Aggron's terrible typing holds it back more than anything and it needed the mega to even be remotely viable. Steel and rock is easily the worst type combonation in pokemon. In gen 3 T-tar was and is straight up better, Metagross could just destroy it with EQ, Swampert being the best Aggron counter had the choice of EQ or a water type move. Blaziken could OKHO with a good fighting type move, Skarmory could wall, Dusclops could will-o-wisp and ruin its day completely, Dugtrio would simply trap it and then EQ, Flygon would just EQ, Machamp would just take it out with cross-chop winning the damage race, Wheezing could just burn it like Dusclops can. List of counters only gets bigger from here
That is the one thing I was working on trying to figure out. I have most Gen 1 OU Pokemon determined, with a mix of Bolt/Beam, stat superiority, and typing significance...but I couldn't figure out why Jynx, who has lackluster stats and a lackluster movepool, was OU in Gen 1...but as an Exeggutor counter, that's valid.
Genuine question, how is some of the gen 6/7 footage so smooth in both framerate and anti-aliasing? Is there a PC emulator for 3ds with anti-aliasing or something? Or do competitive tournaments use different hardware?
Deoxys D/A, Tyranitar, Blissey, Shedninja, Snorlax and Metagross. Blissey and Deoxys-D beat Latias without Safeguard / Substitute / Refresh. If Latias does have non subsitute, Blissey can take a hit, set screens up, and have someone else take it out, or use Icy Wind if you can survive the 1v1. Tyranitar thanks to sand stream; it can take a hit (or immune to it) on switch in ; and set up assuming latias hasnt spammed calm mind. Deoxys A can possibly take a hit from psychic and choice band shadow ball to kill it in one blow. Shedninja can possibly take it out assuming no HP fire/dark, but its shedninja. Snorlax has difficulties taking hits, (made easier with Light Screen Blissey) but when it can a choice band shadow ball can take it out. Metagross can take a hit or two and take it out with shadow (but it gets 2HKO by thunder) A very yolo strat is to trick the soul dew out from latias, turning latias from a uber pokemon to an OU pokemon (weakening its power and sp def) Overall tho, Latias can beat any of these pokemon, esp with soul dew, so there isnt a straight up counter to it; its just outplaying her
Entei isn't as talked about because Entei is the weakest of them. It's stats consist of 115 base HP and Attk with 100 spd which back in Gen 2 wasn't great on him since he had so little moves to use that attack stat. Something's wrong when your strongest attacking moves are Hyper Beam, Iron Tail, and Strength. While his Sp Atk is a respectable-ish 90 to take advantage of his fire STABs, it didn't do much else for him. The only other big move in Sp Atk in Gen 2 he had was Solar Beam so he's more or less a sunny day novelty. Also he doesn't have the tanking ability thanks to solo fire typing being weak to earthquake and surf since suicune was everywhere.
Exaggutor certainly did great in the first few generations but as things changed in later generations, things became tougher for the walking tree to remain a top tier Pokemon. Plus exeggutor’s alolan form is somewhat strange and didn’t quite help by becoming 4x weak to ice types but wouldn’t be harmed too bad by dark type moves/Pokemon.

How GOOD was Mewtwo ACTUALLY?
Jake Berango Most Powerful Pokemon in Gen 1..
Now Gen 7 it’s just Ok
At least still in Uber
IT'S TIME!
How GOOD was Aggron ACTUALLY?!?
List of counters only gets bigger from here
Gentile McCuckerson it was ass.
In competitive absolutely
HE HIT LIKE A TRUCK
It's been a while since we did an Ubers Pokémon.
How about Mewtwo?
Brad Schaefer isn't blaziken a full blown uber?
What about Wobbuffet as well? Though Shadow Tag is banned from OU and Wobbuffet is in PU atm, it is for all intensive purposes in Ubers
Maybe he should do Excadrill or maybe even Rayquaza.
Bro first me then him
if gen 7 is being covered now....how good was ninetails actually?
I’m gonna go hide underground unless DUGTRIO!!! next week
There a wiki how dedicated to how to deal with this milk rolling beast, how good was miltank actually?
How good was Misdreavus/Mismagius ACTUALLY?
how good was dugtrio Actually?
How good was Lanturn actually ?
Please do video about this pokemon.
Will you ever do Persian? I'm curious if it ever came close to the monster it was in gen 1.
Pleasant Leech Ikr! I really hope Persian is next!
Yes! Persian is Awesome in Gen 1 and decent in the other gens! I want it to be next!
Short answer; no. And tbf it wasn't that great in gen 1 either due to lack of bulk.
It's mega is good
Pleasant Leech To be fair the only thing Persian had going for it in Gen 1 was getting critical hits for days with Slash due to its Speed being good
How GOOD was Weezing ACTUALLY?
Exeggutor and vileplume is the BOMB, they in my team every damn time🫡
How GOOD was Dugtrio ACTUALLY?
How good were Electabuzz and Electivire actually?
That is the one thing I was working on trying to figure out. I have most Gen 1 OU Pokemon determined, with a mix of Bolt/Beam, stat superiority, and typing significance...but I couldn't figure out why Jynx, who has lackluster stats and a lackluster movepool, was OU in Gen 1...but as an Exeggutor counter, that's valid.
Jynx is also tied with Egg for the most accurate sleeper in OU and has fantastic typing since Fire is largely irrelevant in that tier
How good was Persian ACTUALLY?
Sean Dewar Hopefully we get it!
I wanna see this too
Yes! I Really want Persian to be next as it is my Favorite!!!
Genuine question, how is some of the gen 6/7 footage so smooth in both framerate and anti-aliasing? Is there a PC emulator for 3ds with anti-aliasing or something? Or do competitive tournaments use different hardware?
How good was Weezing actually?
Pat Yes! Along with Persian and Arbok
We still need MEWTWO !!
How GOOD was Mewtwo ACTUALLY?
Lets do this no april fools this time!
How good was mewtwo actually
How Good was Latias actually???
*never gonna give never gonna give... give you up*
Never gonna let you down
Broken in Gen 3 and 4 with Soul Dew lol
An absolute monster in gen 5
Latios what were it’s checks and counters in Gen 3?
Metagross can take a hit or two and take it out with shadow (but it gets 2HKO by thunder) A very yolo strat is to trick the soul dew out from latias, turning latias from a uber pokemon to an OU pokemon (weakening its power and sp def) Overall tho, Latias can beat any of these pokemon, esp with soul dew, so there isnt a straight up counter to it; its just outplaying her
did we do vileplume yet?
Godzilla guy 54 no
Nuptup
Suicune and Raikou come up everytime gen 2 is talked about, what about entei?
So Basically Flareon but with actual HP and Speed?
Yep. There was even a running theory that the Legendary beasts were a reincarnated Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon - it shows.
Its a fire type in a game with Suicune, Starmie, and Tyranitar as meta staples. It's not going far.
marowak and alola-wak NEXT
Exaggutor certainly did great in the first few generations but as things changed in later generations, things became tougher for the walking tree to remain a top tier Pokemon. Plus exeggutor’s alolan form is somewhat strange and didn’t quite help by becoming 4x weak to ice types but wouldn’t be harmed too bad by dark type moves/Pokemon.
