I will consider Au Pied de Cochon for my trip in two weeks. I rely on your exceptionally pleasant videos and your technical advice about Paris. Thank you.
I first dined at Au Pied de Cochon more than 45 years ago. A light meal of seafood and French onion soup was memorable. I have returned many times and feel a sense of contentment. Years later, Saveur magazine published Au Pied's recipe for French onion soup. Merci. ❤
We really enjoy your videos. Have been visiting your city since 1983 and will return later this year. Will definitely dine at Au Pied de Cochon for this 42nd anniversary trip
We went last summer. Perfect lunch of chilled zucchini soup and grilled fish. The soup was so perfect I have pretty much copied it at home to great acclaim from friends. Saute some onion and the flesh of the zucchini (avoid green watery seeds) puréed with chicken stock, cream and some basil. Season to taste. A keeper.
This is already on my list for my next visit and this got me more excited! I heard there is a rumor they do not have locks or light switches because they would never be used😂 Also, apparently, was a favorite of Julia Childs.
That whole meal looked so tasty and delicious. Very large serves too. I don’t think I could eat it all which isn’t a bad thing. Worth every cent in my book.
Wife and I are coming in May for our 35th. These videos have inspired me to try a Brasseries. We are staying in Le Marais do you have a favorite in that neighborhood?
Bonjour ! New subscriber in Australia. What a delightful video and what a sumptuous bistro ! Enjoyed every second of it. Traditional French food is the best ! Thank you for the video !
Thanks and welcome aboard! If you take a look at my food & restaurant playlist, you'll find many other great Parisian restaurants: th-cam.com/play/PLlgjce_AjJgcDpEUSUedz7a0iSt1EhCIV.html
This looks amazing! Based on your great video, we have just booked to go for dinner when we’re in Paris in May! The pork croquettes look amazing and I’m wanting the cute 🐷 vacherin.
My grandparents went there when the restaurant was pretty new. They brought a menu back with them when they returned home, and that menu is hanging in my kitchen. There are more items on the menu now, but they have stayed true to the design over the years. And the picture that is now at the front of the menu is the same one that is emblazoned across the top of my version.
When I lived the Paris life many decades ago, we used to go to the Pied de cochon after going clubbing. At 5 a clock in the morning, a robust pig trotter breaded and grilled, with a bearnaise sauce and French fries, delicious. Fighting with it as it gets cold (34 bones to chew on! as it says on the table mats), your fingers sticky with collagene as it is full of it, no fat, just incredible!!
I was there at about 4 in the morning, drunk out of my brain, 40 years ago, after a night of clubbing. Most of the tables at that hour were filled with people exactly like us.
New subscriber here from Ecosse! Loved this video and am looking forward to checking out your back catalogue. Visited Paris once, five years ago, and stayed le vingtieme arrondissement. Absolutely loved it, and will probably return within the coming year. What I’d like to know is if the Pied de Cochon has decent vegetarian options. My wife is vegetarian, so it’s important for us. Actually, can you recommend any restaurants in Paris which have a good selection of vegetarian dishes. Thank you.
Welcome aboard! Unfortunately, at Pied de Cochon, if they have a few vegetarian options as starters, all their mains are either meat or fish... But there are vegetarian options in most of the other restaurants in Paris. I might do a vegeterian / vegan video soon...
I noticed you didn't have to pay for the rillettes as they were not on the receipt/l'addition. Also, did you leave any additional tip? I never know what amount is appropriate. Thanks.
No, these "amuse-bouches" as they are called are always free. As per the tip, I don't remember. If the service is OK, I usually leave 2 or 3 euros. Service is always already included in the bill in France, but you can leave up to 5 euros if the service from your waiter was great.
I've eaten there a few times and had the onion soup. It IS good. Had fun chatting with some people who came into town just to eat the pig's trotters. It's touristy but it's so fun.
If you're in Paris, my advise here is to take the Eric Ospital plates; it is his own recettes (it seems being from the Pays Basque). You have to know that there's many chef turn over in Paris, they came from regional France or foreign countries (Italy, etc.) today 'Au Pied de Cochon" seems to have a Basque allure with its chef. This is the occasion to taste Basque cuisine.
Even though prices have gone up quite a lot, and this restaurant in particular is a bit expensive, it's true that when you compare prices with the US, especially after the tip, France still is a good bargain...
Maybe... yet clearly not a tourist trap! Check this one if you want a nice find which is absolutely not a tourist spot: th-cam.com/video/PhU4J-gsNmU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=92rKFFY97tKecogi

Its a tourist trap. Looks good from the outside but the food is very average and overpriced, service is nothing to go crazy about either. We were very disappointed when we tried it with friends last year.
@@paristoptips Well modern Persian language is just another Indo-European tongue. There are words in common with Greek, Latin, Spanish, French and Germanic languages. It is feasible at some point a different tribe of Aryans named Persians broke off and went westward, hence the name. For example, the word for of is de or di in Spanish/French. You're welcome. Even if it's quite a touristic place, it's a signature restaurant in Paris.
Everything looks and sounds delicious.
It is, clearly!
Fantastic. The food looked sooooo delicious....
It was!
That vacherin is EVERYTHING, OMG what a wonderful creation! Splendid video, thanks so very much for this one!
Thanks a lot...
July seems so far away when i see your videos!!! 😊
Only 3 months to go...
I had dinner there on Christmas Day last year. It was a wonderful experience. The service was very good!
I'm happy that you had a good experience in a restaurant I recommend...
Nothing better than eating French fries in France.😋😊
Absolutely!
They're from Belgium, where they make it the best.
Thank you for sharing.😊
With great pleasure 🙏
Je serais à Paris en septembre…..je viens de découvrir votre site TH-cam…..j’adore…..❤

It's the kind of restaurant that is "touristy", yet it is as good as the best brasseries in Paris.

Average serves for a Parisian brasserie.
Nice to have this from an authentic Frenchman

I had dinner here in September 2018. It was spectacular.

The French like to preserve their culinary traditions without modifying them too much!

I knew " Le pied de cochon" in the mid eighties. Is it always open all night long ?
Almost! It's open until 5 AM
Perhaps the best onion soup I ever had, 2008,2012,2020
Will be there soon
Hope you have a great meal... again!

Good prices, I bet they go higher during ‘Olympic Games’. And how do they compare with French Euro’s? Hawaiian Aloha
These prices are in Euros...
Still good. Prices in Hawaii are higher for not such cool dinner. But, If you ever get over here, I will show you where local eat . 🌴🌴Aloha
Great! And yes, Aloha!😁
I see you are by yourself, do most Paris resturants welcome single diners? I am leaving for Paris next week on a Solo trip.
All restaurants welcome single diners!
Have a great time in Paris!
I hope this restaurant stays alive forever
Yes, long live the Pied de Cochon!
Pas de vin ?
Je ne bous pas de vin quand je mange seul.
Pour moi, le vin se partage...

It's actually very cheap considering the quality. You can't get this quality for this price in England.
Yes good food in England has become incredibly expensive...
It strikes me that I pay way more in a not so great restaurant in Orlando, FL than I would at this gem in Paris, I have been there. It is ridiculous.

Très bien! C'est utile quand on visite Paris!
No wine?😊
When I eat alone, I rarely drink wine. For me the pleasure of drinking wine is something to be shared, so if alone, I usually go for a beer.
So it as nothing related to Le Pied de Cochon in Montréal (Québec, Canada) ? It's a well know place here... I'm like WTF?
I don't think so... But you never know 😁
Et d'ailleurs, il vient d'où leur cochon ?

It is a 'bistro' cuisine, not a 'restaurant' one. (I'm French... Eh oui les boumeurs !)
More a brasserie than a bistro.
Paris was founded by a tribe of Persians, hence the taste for culture. Somebody should sponsor my return.
