  • What a machine, watch my full review on the KTM 1290 super duke R. Having ridden the Yamaha MT10 I had a good idea of what I was getting myself into. And this bike did not disappoint.
Big thanks to Fowlers of Bristol for lending me this bike for a test ride. I will definitely be back to try out the rest of the KTM line.

Naked category is definitely the best for uk roads in my opinion. All the fun whilst being more comfortable than the sports bike.

I don't think thsts on track mode lol. Track mode, on my '21 sdr at least, the screen goes black.

If you pause the video you can clearly see it says track on the bottom left hand side of the screen.

something like wind blast, fun factor, wheelying capability, stability, suspension, vibration, confidence on the curves. which is better option for you?

@@leventeyuboglu4501 Wind - Both naked bikes so you need a strong grip as all the wind hits you from chest up, the MT10 does have a touring screen you can purchase from Yamaha to make a difference if that's an issue.
fun factor - You can't go wrong with either of these bikes. The MT10 used to make me laugh in my helmet with how much torque it produced from down low, and the KTM doesn't disappoint either.
Wheelies - Both extremely easy to wheelie, my MT10 I could go from 1st gear to 4th gear with the front end up, I would end up bringing the front wheel down over 100mph. The KTM was brutal with how quickly that front came up - would need to tame the beast alright.
suspension - I had my MT10 professionally set up for my weight and a friend of mine who owned the MT10SP preferred my stock suspension over his ohlins.
Stability - Both very stable on the roads at energetic speeds
Vibrations - MT10 little vibrations all round. I completed 1000miles in under 24 hours on it with no problems of white fingers etc. KTM having that style of engine had some vibrations but this Gen 3 engine in the 2021 1290 SD has done a great job at smoothing them out.
Personally I think with these 2 bikes there is around £4000 difference in the price. So that would come into my factoring of which bike to buy, everyones personal circumstances are different. KTM wins it for me in the looks department every time. Both sound amazing with their different exhaust / engine tones. For 2022 I'm looking at getting the 1290 GT over any new MT10 that may come out.
Either way you can't go wrong with these bikes. see what your heart and your wallet can justify and go from there.
      Hope this helped.

@@DSR1YT thanks for your time and detailed answer. I rode the latest 1290 gt and it didn't inspire me. May be because of older version engine and frame. It didn't feel torquey down lown and didn't rip my arms up top. it felt like unfinished product to me. Riding position was also off for me. However I had enjoyed pre 2020 1290 sas so much, it felt like has unlimited power, wide range of usable rpms and was like very well sorted racing suspension in sport mode. Gt didn't inspire in sport. For me, it was not safe / unridable in road or comfort modes. I just don't like their intake noice, especialy at low speeds, washmachine like... hearing that it is much better with latest engines, or slip on can hide it anyway. if they update the 1290 gt, it can be good bike.

The indicator switch is a known poor design with most Gen 3 owners. It gives very littlle feed back. It was one of the first things i noticed and didn't like when i got mine.

Constantly checking to see if it was actually turned off. Very disappointed with it for the price of the bike.

@@DSR1YT I’ve a habit of constantly pressing to make sure it’s off but the bike has auto cancel indicators. Although I’ve never left them on long enough to see if they work.

    • @DSR1YT
      @DSR1YT  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Ah, that's one thing I didn't realise it had. But like you said, it's leaving them running long enough and hoping the turn was registered by the bike to turn them off for you.
