I was gonna post that it would be easier to simply drop the frame and swing arm into the engine but you ended up pretty much doing this anyhow. 👍 I have done a lot of 1098 and 1198 engine swaps into Ducati 996 frames in the past. Would make my own hybrid airboxes out of fibreglass. Always fancied doing a ktm 1290 into a rc8 but now can watch your build instead😉. Good luck with your build, should be a hoot to ride when completed. 👍
If U use the RC8 coolant hoses and cooler you wont have to think about those not fitting. Exhaust from the Superduke wont fit, but the engine runs well with the RC8 Akra exhaust which fit. Of course mapped for the exhaust
Having had an RC8R which I traded for an SDR EVO. I think it would be much easier to 3d print a Superspot fairing set up for a SDR and then change your bars. I think you may have a clearance issue once the trumpets are on. Making a Super Sport fairing kit for a SDR would be the ticket. Then fit some mare aggressive bars on it.
It makes perfect sense that it would fit. I'm sure the 1190 and 1290 engines are very similar with most likely just bore and/or stroke changes to get the additional displacement
Just buy a set of GB Racing engine case covers. There’s a guy in Holland dud the 1290 conversion few years ago, his series is on TH-cam, might help you with sorting same issues you will have.
Nice job! I have a 160kg lightweight 990SMR build which I wanted to tune up a lot but then found out how cheap gen1 1290 engines are 😂 Really considering if I should do the swap, never done such a big project. My biggest concern are electrics
Yes!! All the same exact measurements and alignments as the rc8. Only thing is the 17t front sprocket is very close to swingarm, but we have a 16t coming 😎
Now there's only one question left.... Will a 1390 fit in the RC8R frame? 😊 Love this build. New subscriber. I'm trying to trade up to a 1290 SuperDuke from a '14 ZX-6R. I turn 38 next week. I'm getting too old to ride a sportbike on the street
i wonder how many of the components will transfer over and internals? going by what you have done you could of just changed cylinder heads and other parts? i wonder if the new shift cam 1390 will fit? :)
this has been done, years ago on the RC8 forums. you can swap the heads and cylinders over, but i believe it was a lot of custom fabrication and machining of the original casings. so this is a much easier solution, given that the mounting of the engine is easier to fabricate if needed.
Easier sure ....but this is going to be on a diffrent level.....there is alot that went into that frame to make the RC8 a super handling bike and even to make the SD crazy feeling but manageable
I am worried as well. Would probably wait for the stars to align sourcing a wrecked 1290 and a clapped rc8 at the same time but it’s extremely tempting.
always has fitted. The 990 and 1290 share 80% of the same design with heads, cylinders and eventually the cylinder bolt spacing was enlarged to accommodate the bigger cylinders. problem is the rc8 are getting rare, so I hope someone makes duke conversion kits one day. hint hint please do some. A bit of history, ktm stopped making the r8c street bike as you don't need that level of speed for road use according to ktm. hence the rc8c is track only and the duke was selling better.
I have a 160kg lightweight 990SMR build which I wanted to tune up a lot but then found out how cheap gen1 1290 engines are and make 50hp more 😂 Really considering if I should do the swap, never done such a big project. My biggest concern are electrics
@@ridepastu1418 yes and no.... though it's faired a little bit but it's different. + It has a completely different chassis. Maybe the new GT could be 🤔
I have been checking your channel every day saying today he will post 😂 please we need to see the 3rd part we are dying bro!
The RC1290 we always wanted
I'm very excited for the next episode!

Cool swap 👍🏻 You definitely bleed orange 👊🏼 can’t wait to see and hear the final product.
I'm definitely following this build.
Can’t wait to see this running
great work, clearly the superduke 3.0 was based on the RC8R frame but with a composite subframe instead

Fancy seeing you here! Good luck on the Aprilia👍
Really enjoying this build 👍🏻

looks like this will be insane
KTM should done this job that you're doing it great
I always wonder if that was possible. Thank for doing it for me. :) When is the next video coming out?
I was waiting for someone to do it.

Output Sprocket, swingarm pivot and rear axle are in the same position? Has anyone checked?

@@JBellz amazing! It was meant to be!
Es compatible con rc8 2008?

Dude really thought if KTM isn't doing it.. I will.
How much does that 1290 engine weigh?
Wouldn't it be much easier to just put fairings on the super duke R ?

Cool.
You must have mentioned it in another video but why swap the engines other then more horsepower?
Ive heard of someone putting a second gen engine in a rc8, you're doing the third gen.... now we need someone to put a 1390 engine in it
Kinda scared about how this is looking.... My bank account is going to go down if this works out, also great vid

Your not the only one bro I just started to look for rc8 without engine 😂

If this is a 2020+ engine, did you remove the resonator chambers on the heads?
If you mean the SAS system, yes. That was only thing removed to make the brackets fit. We are running the Rottweiler performance block off system.
No i mean the plastic resonator chambers fitted on each head, on the rear it suround the cap for tensioner@@JBellz
Why aren't you just using the cooling hoses from the Rc8r engine??
Could you check the rake and trail on the frames of Duke and RC.
I think there would be a market for an 890 or 990 based KTM . Kind of like the aprillia RS660.
Subbed!
Where's part 4!!? We want updates!
Wheres the next video .....
When the next update
can't we just put RC8's fairings on the superduke..?? + additional changes like, new handlebars, footpegs
I believe it’s called the duke GT 🤷♂️

Sik trackbike
holy shit
I need to see how this ends 🥹
