Good job Steve I have done something similar on all my previous bikes :) One thing to stress is that on the bike end you must ensure (like you did) that the negative is connected to the male pin and the positive to the female pin. This will prevent you from accidentally shorting out the battery positive against the frame when you tuck the cable back in :)
Glad to see you still ride the Grom. When I hear about the traffic in Zion and Bryce I think of you driving the Grom to avoid the parking hassle! Good diy trick!
Good solution. I hardwired the whole assembly once on my lawn mower. Found out there was not a diode in the circuit and if the charger was not plugged into the wall, it would discharge the battery overnite. Not a problem the way you did it.
I have done this dozens of times. The connector is called an SAE connector (some people call them trailer connectors). I have created three SAE connectors on my RV alone, one for the house battery, one for the engine, and one for a separate (‘house”) battery bank I made myself. Works great. You can buy 10 gauge ones online, the reason for that is for a solar hookup, it needs a thicker wire.
Its good to periodically check those cheap harbor trickle chargers. That red light comes on when attached to a battery regardless if its plugged into the ac outlet. It uses the batteries power to also light up the red led. I had one kill a battery because the ac power adapter failed and I thought it was good because that red led was on. Just periodically disconnect one of the leads to battery and see if led stays lit or not. If not than that means that charger isnt working.
😒yo I was watching this wit my 6 year old son...he didn't say a word like he really was learnin somethin...and not even a second and a half later he was wailing when your puppet showed up on the screen...it scared the daylights out if em.....and I just wanna say............ Thank You..... Cause that shit was hilarious AF 😂😂😂 Great vid btw
I'm stuck with a bunch of chargers laying around but NO idea which one will fit as a trickle charger because of the different Voltages and Ampere rates......
Why always? If It is a preference, I get that, but all manner of electronics from your computer to your car uses connectors. If insulated, they have no disadvantage.
Now that you have that connector hot-wired directly to the battery, other things can be plugged into the same connector when the battery tender is not connected, such as cigarette lighter adapter then a USB port can be plugged into that. I plug my heated riding gear into that connection. I've used it to recharge my phone and camera.
After my Roadtrek loss 😣I found a tlc needing Dodge 95 based rv....I was going to buy it this morning...but body & mecanical parts seem impossible to find...where can I buy doors..trims, a hood ..brake calipers windows..etc...? any info will help me decide...
I just bought a motorcycle and realized there are two quick-connectors for a Battery Tender. Any idea as to why this might be? I plan to dissect it when I have some time off.
Mr Steve - where did you go again - you need to get on Facebook or Twitter when you go on your trips or vacations - your silence worries all of you subscribers!!!!
I have a set of original 1996 Toyota forerunner wheels the exact same as yours which I pulled off my brand new forerunner at the time and they have been sitting in my basement. I would be more than happy to send them to you all you would have to do is pay for shipping. I was the one that commented to you on your video with Den of tools that I bought an Xplorer van because of you and I have done most of your mods. I want to return the favor.
Oh man, sorry missed replying. Sounds really good but I think I can cover it with paint and it will be fine. She's nice but no show car. Good luck on your Xplorer. I am looking to get out here soon. Spring awaits.

Dang..you are one smart DIYer. Nice .

XT60 connectors commonly used in the RC and solar community is a good alternative for those who prefer non-exposed terminals.
Well done Steve. By the way, you win! You got all the best toys in your workshop. You've got more than all of Santa's elves.
Cheesehead likes - that was easy - Good explanation and great video shots to show the detail - you rock
Nice job Steve. Great idea and thanks for sharing.

😂😂😂
Great vid btw
Nice work. Good solution to a common problem.
Hope Steve hasn't gone on hiatus again..
Would like to see some videos of your Grom riding adventures.
Nice job I think you should have put a inline fuse on the hot side
So simple!! Thanks for the idea!
Are you still posting?
HI. Is it ok to charge the battery while still in the bike and still connected.
I'm stuck with a bunch of chargers laying around but NO idea which one will fit as a trickle charger because of the different Voltages and Ampere rates......
That's awesome!!!!
Always solder and shrinkrap

You are D’Best👏🏽👏🏽👍🏼👍🏼❤️
Wishing you the best, June 16, 2019
Great job,, lol I have 2 of HFT chargers ,I like them🤗🤗
Is it normal for these to get warm when trickle charging your battery. Great video by the way .
Mr. Steve are you happy with the honda grom? Would you do it again or get something different?? Thanks for your time.
It is great to carry on the hitch. Power and speed is good. There are many choices. This was for a specific use and purpose and so is great for that.
Battery Tender Jr has the connectors in the package already. Not very expensive either and they are supposedly the best also.
Yeah, not sure what the purpose of all of this is

Good idea. You good

didyou ever find out why?
Where you at. Missing your videos. Hope all is well.
Great idea. Are you enjoying your Grom?
Yes.

I had the same problem last month but my bike was still under warranty so the dealership replaced the battery for me.
Dig this! Just put one on everything I own. Hate dead batteries.
Hey Steve, Any new updates? You are missed!
hey Steve, you never got back to me on my offer on your last video about the wheels.
You'll have to remind me on that one. I try to keep up with comments but....

Make some camping videos
Better connect it with fuse so it wont short the battery when it got wet due to car wash or something
was wondering where Cosmo was.
I would use a fuse. If the two wires shorts when riding you are fucked.
👍
