Hi Tim, Just to say thank you for sharing this video on Stripped Quill Buzzers. I tied a few and used them recently……..They were an instant success. I caught 5 good rainbows and a lovely Brown Trout weighing approx 4 Lbs…..my biggest “Brownie” I do enjoy flytying and your video’s are a source of inspiration. Thank you and keep them coming……….Tight Lines…👍👍👍
Thanks for sharing Tim. I think the cheeks need to be retied at a slight angle instead of inline with the hook shank. The tips close to the eye need to be closer to the top.
PERMINANT MARKER WORK VERY WELL AS WELL. I USE THEM ALL THE TIME. LET THE INK DRY BEFORE USING. ON A FLAT SURRFACE I USE AN ERASER TO REMOVE THE FIBRES OFF A QUILL I'VE DONE 100'S OF THEM THIS WAY .
Tanks for sharing Tim, just found and subscribed to your channel, I’m fairly new to fly tying and have had issues tying buzzers, this will help a lot. @Grandpa-Chris.
@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 thanks Tim… just as an enhanced challenge, I only have one working arm just now and I’m having fun tying with my lesser hand… whip finishing is interesting… I’ve never backed away from a challenge yet…🤣🤣👍
This is great, I might have a go at some of these. A couple of questions if I may, do you let the varnish dry naturally and would you ever use curved hooks for the buzzers ? Cheers.
Yes I let the varnish dry naturally , the hard as nails is pretty quick drying . No I prefer most of my buzzers on straight hooks , they don't spin when casting , or spin while sinking , also if you look at a buzzer in the water it sits straight , not curled so its a better representation of the natural . Thanks for watching .
i have yet to get the right quil to do these right ...i have stripped so many herls and the quils dont even look like that even in the eye i stripped the whole eye and they are so brown they cant even be seen on the fly.......where do i get the quil you are using ? mine are looking awful :(
Have you tried tying then fly and varnishing it ? The varnish really lifts the quills colours . These quill are nothing special at all , they were collected by my niece from the local petting zoo !
@@PinkBlondeBarbiexo Yep might be worth buying a few new eyes . Sounds like the ones your using are being stubborn . They should be nice and defined just from hand stripping with an eraser or blunt scissors let alone bleaching . Maybe the eyes you have , have been treated in someway ... I hope your new batch work out for you .
@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 I took my turkey feathers and stripped the membrane off the feathers and stripped that and my god it looks great 15 feathers later I got what I needed haha what are your thoughts on polish quil natural colour ?
Look for a bleached quill . Make sure your selecting quills from the peacock eyes and not just standard herl ! .. The eyes are lighter and wider quill .

Thanks . Yep would probably look neater to be sure . I dont think the fish can tell the difference though lol ! Thanks for watching

@@PinkBlondeBarbiexo Brilliant .. result ! I think as long as the quill gives that segmented effect than its all good !
my peacock quill its dark so i couldnt even see it on the black body ...what should i do ?

@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 where within the eye is best ? 😃thank u love ur videos
@@PinkBlondeBarbiexo Anywhere from the bottom of the eye up . If you look closely you will notice the quills flatten out and are broader .
Hi tim what is a good brand of scissors u would recommend
Hi mate . Have been using Dr slicks for years . Cant go far wrong with them mate .
Find a rubber easier for taking off fluff . Cracking video mate . 👍
Thanks . Yep I cant get on with the rubber method especially on more delicate herls . Its whatever works for you right ... Thanks for watching .
@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 Exactly mate each to there own . Keep up the good work . 👍
What brand of barbless nymph hook do you use Tim?
I Favour the FASNA F310 or slightly heavier F210 ..
Hi Tim, where do you get the dyed picric peacock eye from?
This was from FlyBox ...
