  • Hook - Hanak H 260 BL #10
Thread - Semperfli Nano Silk 12/0 (Black)
Body - Peacock Herl (dyed black)
    Rib - Spartan Buzzer Wrap
Buds - Comp Candy Goose Biots (Hot Orange)
Thorax - Deals Fur (Black Claret)
Thorax Cover - Fish On Ultra Dry Yarn (White)
As the season progresses and the water starts to heat up a little the slick varnished buzzers often sink through the water column too quickly. The fish are now feeding up on emerging insects and daphnia. You want you flies to sink much slower through the layers maximising the chance of a fish seeing and taking your fly. This will do just that for you sinks really slowly and can be slowed further with the addition of some floatant. Also a great fly to fish on the washing line when you want to be just sub-surface.
What flies do you find works well when the fish are cruising around the 2' - 4' level? Let me know in the comments section below.

I find myself captivated by your videos but not sure if i have the patience to try it. Do you feel you catch more fish with your own flies rather than shop bought ? . Thanks :)

Hi James, The flies available to buy now are generally of a very high standard. The reason for tying your own may be varied but what it boils down to is confidence. When I catch a fish with a fly I have tied I know the hook will not bend out and the fly will last until I damage the hook point beyond repair. You also get exactly what you want.

Hi Lindsay, this may sound like a stupid question, but would you have this fly as a dropper or as a point fly? What other combinations would try? I'm still a "newbie" as they say. Only got into fly fishing about six years ago when I retired. Great videos by the way, keep them coming. If you ever fancy a wee change of scenery, come and join us in Fife.

Hi Alister, if I was fishing straight through I would fish this anywhere on the cast. It would also work great on a washing line if you wanted to keep your flies high in the water.

Hi Lindsay, I rarely watch fly tying videos as I have my own style and they are basic or simple. But this popped up on my screen. Had to watch. Brilliant, and the talk on how and why was spot on. Just up my street. I have fished the light buzzers for years and very successful. I then went onto your channel. I think I will be spending a good few hours sifting through them. Glad I watched now. Thank you. Just subscribed. Shaun.

Glad it was helpful Shaun, I tie with a clear idea of how I want a pattern to be presented. I think its key to understand how fast a pattern sinks and get that visual image of how it appears to the trout. Thanks for watching buddy.

Super, video, Lindsay. Could I ask, with so many Semperfli nano silks available, what would you say are the most common sizes and colours for a newbie like me? Cheers

    • @lindsayiflyfish
      @lindsayiflyfish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Depends on what you are tying but as a generic one the 12/0 is super strong get black, red and white. The white will take a coloured pen if you want something a little different.

I impatiently wait for your videos every week. Thank you for letting me catch up on my beauty sleep! My wife has stopped gagging when she looks at me!
Anyway, you can buy other buzzer wrap that will work I'm sure. I have some down in my tying room I am pretty sure will work.
So many items are discontinued right!? I always but extra but sometimes!!!
One thing I've been trying is some brush on Superglue on the thread base to fortify the Peacock. But as you point out the wraps of the Buzzer Wrap do great! Is your white wing material similar to polypropylene? It sort of looks similar in the structure?
You and Davie tear the boots away! My boots are so tough I could tie my car out of a ditch with them! 😂
I like this style of fly and once I am back on my Stillwater flies I will no doubt tie some. Thanks Lindsay! Always appreciated!!

The buzzer wrap in the video is a very old product hard to get hold of nowadays. The alternatives do a reasonable job. I take it you mean biots and the auto correct has got the better of you....lol. The thorax cover is similar to antron or Aero Wing, Its good gear. Thanks for watching Kerry.

Re the Spartan wrap, I fished with Steve once in the 90`s it would be and since we both liked float tubing we got on well. Every so often he would send me new materials and and a new pattern or two. Decent guy.
