Did Sony accidently make the perfect earbuds for cycling? Sony released their new LinkBuds which use a design you may not have seen before. These earbuds feature a hole driver design to allow for ambient sound to enter your ear naturally. Does that fix all of the issues we have with traditional, plug style earbuds making them perfect for mountain biking and road biking? Check out the review of the Sony LinkBuds and find out.

YES. YOU GET IT. These are aimed at active outdoor enthusiasts (Cycling, Running, etc). I have seen countless reviews of these complaining about sitting at their desk and hearing other noises. Not the use-case. Maybe that's a marketing problem for Sony, but when I saw these, I thought "these are going to be GREAT for any trail activity."

I thought the link buds would be perfect for cycling and brought these because of that. For the benefit of everyone as soon as you are riding at any speed the ‘donut’ shape creates so much wind turbulence noise that it is pretty much all you hear. The fit also wasn’t great for me and I ended up losing one and that was that. An expensive mistake. Best not to use anything and enjoy your ride, nature and the sounds around you.

I have these and they're great. The best part is the stop to audio feature when talking and then automatically resuming after 15 seconds.
Then I found OLADANCE. They're not in ears, they have 16 hours continuously play, great sound because the actual speaker is larger but not heavy, you can adjust the volume on the headphones, next track prevoise track take a call end a call, use ai assistance. And if you upgrade and buy the battery case you only have to charge the case once a week. It's got approx 2250 mah hours batter for the case and is excellent. The case is usbc. Give them a look.
    Great video 👍

When you say “for cycling” you would expect a review to include road cycling, not just mountain biking 😓 One of the most important aspects of headphones for cycling is wind noise, which you didn’t mention, probably because it’s not a factor in mountain biking lol but that was the only detail I was concerned about, and still don’t know.
Side note, having headphones that relay surrounding sounds through digitally ends up picking up a lot of wind noise (from my experience), so I can’t usually use that feature while riding. Was hoping this new design would solve that.

Finally! [found a cycling centric review for this puppies]
i currently don't linten to music while riding because i went with over-the-ear headphones about 1 ½ years ago, but i'm seriouly considering this model to reintroduce the groove into my daily commute. back when i listened to music on the go, i went with a first generation Fugoo speaker (they're not built as they use to T_T) & later with some first generation Bose QuietControl (the one with the neckband) with modied ear tips (i cut them to remove the passive noise isolation & carrier an extra set of regular tips for noisy environments)
    Thanks for sharing! 🍺

Thanks for the review. Got them, too but not for cycling, Although sound is a bit lame - which was what I expected - they are great to wear outdoors. If played at normal loudness you definitely hear enough of your surroundings. It’s nice to wear them while skating so I guess it’s the same with cycling 😀

another reason why these would be good is that if you sweat a lot regular earbuds can stop the moisture from building up. so it might lead to more ear infections. Since they let air in, they also let moisture out.

@@michaelsteven1090 in terms of sound vs wind performance well, they are the in-between of the aeropex and an in-ear bud. That said they sound way better than aeropex. Apart from using them with classes online, both one to one and students with COVID at home who join the class online (I can communicate with them from anywhere in the class and I can interact with the rest of the class), I also use those under my full face helmet on my EUC (electric unicycle). I can listen to some music, hear notifications from my EUC about battery, speed, distance etc. whilst being aware of what's happening around me. I have Aftershokz as well, but these have better sound and they fit under a full face helmet. The battery life on the Aftershokz is almost twice as good as on these in one session, but the battery on my EUC doesn't outlast them, so hey. Because of the full face helmet, the wind noise doesn't really affect my listening pleasure.

Previously used the aeroprex by aftershockz. I now use the link buds and they have been the best switch over ever! Took some adjusting to get the right fit. But they incorporate so many loop sizes that even if both ears are different shapes you should still be able to find the right fit. I use a small loop in my left ear and a large loop in the right. So good!!!!

@@23021973 I also just picked these up as my old aftershokz trekz air had developed a slight buzzing sound at certain frequencies, and I also have the aftershokz open-comm which I believe are about the same as the aeroplex but with a better mic. I think the sound quality on the link buds is better, sounding a bit more natural, especially in lower end sound. There isn't booming bass sure, but still more bass than with the aftershokz.

    • @23021973
      @23021973 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@DelphinusVyse I just bought a pair after trying them out at a local Sony store. Although there is no thumping bass, the sound quality is better than I had expected of such open design even at low volume of 25%. Selecting Bass Boost from the EQ greatly improves the bass. Tune up the volume to more than 50%, the bass is actually quite good. Since I’m using the Linkbuds for cycling and sports, the open design allows natural ambient sound for situational awareness. Overall, I’m happy with the purchase.

Found this video after I bought these, but I think this is a fairly accurate information here.
I pitted these (Sony linkbuds) against a pair of airpod v3’s and the linkbuds came out on top. Although they tried to make the airpods more transparent, but it’s still nowhere near the linkbuds.
I use them for mountain, gravel, and road riding and they work great for being able to hear everything from cars to rattlesnakes while still having music. Often I even found myself having both earbuds in as opposed to just one.
Another thing I didn’t see mentioned here is that they’re really lightweight, small, and low profile. For me the fit is really good and I don’t feel like I’m going to loose them going down a windy downhill.
They do have downsides though, but most you won’t even realize during use. They have no low bass, but are still perfectly good for getting your motivation going for a hard ride. They also have an interesting fitment system that will take some messing around with.
Really good overall video though. You’ve got a sub from me!

@@Bike198 Honestly, I was so excited to buy these after watching your review that I finally broke down and bought the most expensive Headphone I have every bought. However, my experience with these was not that good it was actually terrible.
When, I was wearing them at the grocery store the person I was talking with on the phone told me they were the worst sounding headphones he has ever heard and suggested I take them back. Sound quality on my end is also terrible, full volume is so low that when I am riding I can barely hear the music and after riding with them my ears hurt for at least an hour because they are very uncomfortable. I even tried to use them when walking my dog and they just suck so I am giving up on them. The one & only feature I liked was tapping them to answer and hang up a call.
The sad part is I tried to take them back to Best Buy and they only allow a two week return window. I asked my daughter to try them and she said they suck and gave me a $40.00 set of Naztech Xpods Pro's and they are so much better. I can hear my phone conversations and the music sounds 100x better then the Sony's.
I feel Sony really missed it with these and of course I am out $200.00 and the funny part is that I can't even give them away as no one wants them.

That sucks! I love these earphones! Having used them for close to a year now I must say the fit is so key to these but Sony could have made it much more simple. It took me about two months of playing with the fit and having them fall out with any brush of contact until I finally nailed the fit and have not lost one since! Mic quality strangely on mine is terrific from what I’ve been told. My drawback is battery life, but the case is so small i can recharge in the 10 minute break we do nbd.

these actually sound very good in the right environment at home or maybe in the office. They're wonderful. They can sound very good. Oddly enough the best sound seems to come off Instagram for some reason, but otherwise if you're on a bus or a train or in town You can hardly hear them. Guess getting them to fit correctly in your ears its another slight problem. I don't think that Sony has got this quite right.. I have problems with the right-hand one trying to fall out but not the left. I have heard some very good high quality sound but you need to be somewhere fairly quite to get the best out of them, the system of music stopping when you talk works well. Just be careful if you one of these people who talk to themselves because it stops the music!
These are not head banging headphones. If you want lots of bass and volume look elsewhere!

@@Bike198 maybe it's because you use them in a forest but road cyclist use them more in the open where the Bluetooth signals can't bounce back. And at faster speeds. But I never had these many connection issues with even cheap ones.

I actually use them the most for gravel/road riding as I like the ambient sound the most to worry about cars. I am not saying you didn't have issues though. I have had issues with other earbuds connecting with my Garmin watch. I think that is more on the Garmin side though as it seams consistent. To my iPhone has been fine.

Hi. How did they do in the wind? I'm on the fence about getting them and wind noise is my main concern while riding fast.

Raycons with awareness mode. Cheap (

I am assuming those work like the AirPods do right? It does work for sure. These don’t feel like plugs in your ears when you don’t have music playing though which is nice. I have heard really good things about the Raycons from several different sources. I need to give those a try sometime as well. Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback!

As far as sound leakage is concerned that depends on the loudness. When played on a loud level people next to you will definitely hear them. But, well, if you are racing downhill that shouldn’t be such a big issue 🤣

Took me some time to find the right way to plug them into my ears but now they fit perfect. I'm not an autist pretending to be isolated, so this Linkbuds works perfectly for me as we all need some awareness of what's happening around specially when running or cycling. Thanks for an exceptionally good video.

I would caution others, sony earbuds don't last. Bought Sony WF-1000XM4 after a year the left earpod dies after 15 min on a full charge.

I guess I’ll stick to apple products anyway, but this could be a great alternative!

Not a single word about the mic? the second most important thing in "perfect bike earbuds" is being able to talk to people on the phone while riding! How are they performing, can people actually hear anything other than the wind?

    • @Bike198

I typically will stop when I have to answer a call or anything like that. For that use...they worked well. I have to imagine wind noise is going to be an issue for talking while moving.

  • @LeoInterHyenaem

I beg to differ: anything below IPX7 or IP68 is an absolute joke. A no-go for me. Furthermore, the wind noise is probably a great nuisance with this design. 5 hours isn't anything to write home about: there are earbuds that will last 12-13 hours with the ANC off - and over 10 hours with an ANC on. And the case will provide sufficient charge for 60 to 100 hours. And USD200 is mighty expensive! Not remotely affordable!

Yeah I've given up trying to find ear buds for my needs. I just use a one soundpeats sonic in one ear and keep my other ear open for ambient sounds and just deal with the wind noise. The soundpeats have a physical button so I can use it with thick gloves and even while riding I can have decent call quality with the other person not complaining about wind noise. The music quality is still great and the battery lasts 15 hours so can just leave the case at home
