Varying paint weights is key to many acrylic pour techniques

  • One of the most common questions I get is how to create cells with my acrylic pour. Understand paint densities, specific gravity, and the weight of each paint can make controlling the effects and your acrylic pour so much easier.
    Acrylic Pour Cells - Everything you need to know - leftbrainedartist.com/acrylic...
    The weight of paints in an acrylic pour determines which paints rise and which paints sinks when stacked on top of each other. Cells are formed when heaver paint drops through lighter paint or vice versa and small pieces of each color of paint that drop passes through accumulate into "cells".
    This celling effect can be amplified by using a very "light" additive like silicone which will travel up through the paint and cause cells.
    Additionally, using a pouring medium like floetrol that has a tendency to make cells by itself will help cause this effect to happen on a larger scale.

      Maybe you have an easy answer to another problem I can’t yet resolve. Using artist’s loft white and water base paint and tube colours/water colour paints and Dutch pour technique on both canvas and tiles, the white gradually creeps over the colours, leaving little patches of colour. I’m getting loads of lacing and cells. Consistency is the same for all mixes and runny enough to blow out with mouth or hairdryer. I’m happy to keep wasting paint but if you can suggest a solution it’ll save me time and materials. Maybe the white should be a little less viscous ( thin and thick are such ambiguous terms in fluid art)? The problem was even worse when I mixed in Floetrol

      @@LeftBrainedArtist I’ve already been through my paints and worked out their numbers. Not sure how you assess when they have mixed pigments, one high and one low, when white is added for example. I would imagine the percentage of the white is low, if it has just made the colour lighter, would you go for the lower number then?

    • @LeftBrainedArtist
      @LeftBrainedArtist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1
