    While I don't know enough yet to comment on possible issues/solutions. I'm glad you're posting these videos as I can learn something new in every one of your videos!

    Was the intercooler is full of oil? It looked clean oil, then the turbo seals are leaking. Very small scratches on the cylinder walls are pretty normal, Test the compression to see if there is leakage, but that's unlikely given how small the scratches are. Small oil leaks are inevitable on an old car, and so long as it doesn't use excessive oil, topping up a litre every thousand miles is normal.

      I dumped it out later and is was about a 50/50 mix water and oil (did not taste sweet so not coolant) about 10mm at the bottom of the ic. The engine is fully rebuilt about 6months ago with new bore and pistons, should i still expect this type of wear? Leakdown is ok compression is 9bars on all cylinders. I have yet to add any oil since the rebuild wierdly enough. If i look at the dipstick it might be down a couple of mm since the build.

    Hope that's a stabilized condition, It would be devastating to see the effort put into the engine to go to waste :( I've watched the videos with great interest, I too have a daily driven 945 with some stealthy upgrades, so it's relevant info!

    I think that on the first or second video you removed the piston rings and weighed it. Maybe you put back some of the rings up side down.. ?

    Thanks for the introduction! How rigid the cable is? Is it comfortable to guide the camera into the direction , you would like to?

      Yes it quite ridged and stays in place.

    My suspicion is when the rings went on and off , not sure if you did it but the ring gaps also need to be 120 degrees apart .

    • @BackmansGarage
      @BackmansGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Did put the gap 120 apart, However I did not measure the ring gap where Volvo specifies to measure it.

    Hi, i dont know if this was solved, but i do remember one ford tuner did always blame too high revs on cold engine. Of course race engines may be built using smaller tolerances.. that would make them more vulnerable i guess.

      Currently, the issue seems to have resolved itself somehow? There will be an episode on this, but the piston släp noise is still there.

    I believe it's the ring gap

    Do you have an update on the PV444 barn find project?

    • @BackmansGarage
      @BackmansGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The car is not my own, but will probably be featured more on the channel depending on the amount of views the clip gets.
      Top priority right now is the volvo 740 T5 project. And the plans have changed a little bit.

    Would say rings are too tight, as they should not be wiping away honing marks in that small amount of time. Additionally, some compression ring types are A & B position on the piston and have up marks. After initial head gasket installation and first warm up I'll retorque after cool down as do values drop quite noticeably.

      I think the bad temp senor caused a lot of issues in conjunction with the brak in period of the engine leading to premature failure of the piston rings.

    I think intercooler has a drain plug

    vad har du för gap på ringarna vet du de?

    • @BackmansGarage
      @BackmansGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Inget jag har uppskrivit ATM, men det var inom Volvo spec iaf 👍

  • @chillycheeese
    @chillycheeese ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'd say either ring gap too tight or piston clearance not sufficient. That wear pattern is definitely not normal for 6 months.

    • @BackmansGarage
      @BackmansGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Looks like that might need to be checked 👍

    @jollyrodger5319 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Honestly it looks like they didn't get the rings properly and it's scraping the sides of the wall you should still have cross hatching

    • @jollyrodger5319
      @jollyrodger5319 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ring Gap is wrong it's pushing too much to the cylinder

    • @BackmansGarage
      @BackmansGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      will have to get this re-measured when i take it apart.
