    No Goals, No Challenges, No TBR’s…NO JUDGEMENT 😊 I just read what I want, when I want. But love getting all the book recommendations from all the Besties!

    Nope, no goals for me really!😂Just read from my shelves. And do more research before buying a book, make sure I truly want it😊Great video though! Enjoyed it❤

    I set a few goals each year for my reading. I want to participate in five monthly readathons, starting with Middle Grade March and ending with Nonfiction November. I want to read at least three book club books (from any book club. I am beginning with The Measure.) I want to read at least one Christian nonfiction each month, and I want to reach my Goodreads goal. I love your goals and the pretty way you set them all up.

    • @BooksAndJams

      I love your goals. I would like to read more nonfiction in general this year, but it's not an official goal.

    I was just gifted the Ultimate Reading Challenge at the end of the year too! I’m trying to figure out how to incorporate it into my reading.

    • @BooksAndJams

      Sweet! I am not sure how I will officially incorporate it other than trying to complete one or more for every time I do a weekend reading vlog.

    I like your approach to goals. I have 10 goals I've set but they are just for fun and to provide a little challenge, but if I don't complete them thats okay.

    I love goals. This year I'm focusing on clearing books off my shelves, A-Z, series, particular authors I want to read more than one book from and reading a wide variety of genres. I'm taking part in the Buzzwordathon, Simon's Savidge Prompts (Savidge Reads), Whitney's Genre-a-thon (Tibbara's Den) and Chantal's Read Your Bookshelf challenges but I don't stick to the months and count a book I've read for any month's prompt. I also have 24 books to read in 2024. I roll over to the next year any prompts I haven't completed plus any readathon prompts I haven't completed. If I don't reach the goals, it doesn't matter. It's just a bit of fun. Good luck with your goals!

    • @BooksAndJams
      @BooksAndJams  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Holy moly that's a lot of challenges...and then you roll over ones you didn't finish! Wowza. But you're right. It's all for fun!

  • @lupitaochoa9529
    @lupitaochoa9529 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I got all excited about the buzz word challenge and Chantal's challenge, and then I thought, "Just read the books on your shelf!" 😂😂😂 What's so funny is that I had already planned to do that. It's the hype that'll getcha! Long story not so much longer, I went through my shelves, and I have already written down a list of 12 books to get through for the year. I know 12 doesn't sound like much to some, but it will be a win for me.
    Happy Reading in 2024 to ALL!

    • @BooksAndJams
      @BooksAndJams  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't checked yet if what I've read fills any prompts. I think I'll check at the end of each month. I should go through and see if I have something for all the prompts too. That would be a fun video.

    I love your goals and challenges! My goals for 2024 are:
    Read 100 books
    Reread my favorite books
    Read 12 books from my bookshelf (I get most of my books from the library and neglect my bookshelf)
    Completely Melanie's tbr knockout challenge

    I love challenging myself. Last year I finally completed all 50 of the Popsugar reading challenge prompts so this year I found the 52 Book Club challenge and joined the Facebook and Goodreads groups. My challenge is always to try to reduce owned tbr, decrease book buying, increase reading owned books. Two of my challenges for myself thix year are what I call, why haven't I read these yet, and why haven't I finished these yet. I keep a reading journal that works for me. A lined journal with some pretty stickers this year. So with all that said, my only 3 finished reads this year so far have been library books. 🤷 Oh well. I have the rest of the year for my books. 😆

    • @BooksAndJams
      @BooksAndJams  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's amazing that you completed the pop sugar challenge last year. That's quite an accomplishment. I love the Why haven't I... challenges you set for yourself That's hilarious. I definitely have those books on my shelves. haha

    I'm doing the 52 book challenge this year as well. I never had heard of it until December when I was going through the story book challenges. I thought it sounded fun and I liked most of the promps. The last couple of years I've done the pop sugar challenge but not enjoying their prompts now. Anyways, I was on Amazon and saw the 52 book challenge book... The same one you have. I've already filled in five books. I'm excited for it. I'm a little worried that once classes start back up that I won't keep up with writing my reviews but still excited to get the prompts. Love your goals.
    I do the same thing with the buzzword challenge. I don't follow it month by month but I try and fill in books that fit the prompts.
    And I did Chantel's challenge for a couple of years and really enjoyed it. But I found last year it was hard to keep up with two different websites. I like how story graph has their challenges set up. Happy 2024!

    • @BooksAndJams
      @BooksAndJams  ปีที่แล้ว

      Same. I never heard of the 52 book challenge until December too. It will be a nice change for you after the pop sugar challenge. That's amazing that you already have a few filled in! I haven't gotten into Storygraph, but may have to for the challenges! haha.

    My biggest challenge is to read from my shelves. I get 2 books/month from Audible, but those ate usually consumed on auto-buy authors and/or series. I used to read only long books. I’d like to continue meeting my annual page count, and get a few of my huge tomes read.

    • @BooksAndJams

    In 2023 I had overly ambitious reading goals which I knew I couldn’t complete but didn’t give up until pretty late in the year. So on my birthday I started a list of books I wanted to read before my next birthday. Unfortunately it has grown to 45 but I think I can do it with time for the month long readathons I like to do. Good luck with your goals, have fun! I'm looking forward to regular updates.

    My goal this year is to try and finish out some series I've started. First up is the last of the Six Tudor Queens by Alison Weir. I've loved the first 5, so I got the last book this week from the library! I have a ton of books on my Kindle, so I am picking a letter randomly from a jar at the beginning of the month. Then picking a book that starts with the letter. That should also help with the A-Z challenge. I really like that one. Also, I chose 12 books from my shelf. It is my Priority Plie. I put those titles into a jar and will pick from that monthly. I want to prioritize your Patreon group pick, the 52 book club and I am a part of another challenge thru Booktalk etc podcast and will do their Patreon reading challenge. Oh - I am on Storygraph and Currently Reading too! It is exactly what I want and need in my life to "connect with bookish people" Here's to a fantastic 2024 reading year! 🎉

    • @BooksAndJams
      @BooksAndJams  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do have a goal of at least one Kindle book a month. I forgot to add that to this video. I think focusing on Netgalley this year will help since all of those are on my Kindle...at least all the new ones are. I like your letter jar. That sounds fun.

  • @ednalee906

    I have one goal and that is to reduce my book buying and to buy my books in e-book format vice physical books because I am currently out of space for physical books, my other goal is to primarily read the books that I already own, in order to reduce my physical book inventory, seeing that I own over 1,000 physical books this will be a goal for the remainder of my life. I am participating in 11 reading challenges, The 52 Book Club is one of them. I do the challenges for fun. I plan for some pf the prompts but basically I see if what I read fit a prompt and if it did great and if not that is fine too. I am a mood reader, and i do best sticking with that.

    I received the Ultimate Book Challenge for a Thanksgiving hostess gift.Saved it to start the new year. I gave my youngest granddaughter the children's version for Christmas - she is thrilled with it. My main 2024 reading goal is to read from my shelves - I did buy some books at the end of the year using gift cards. These books fulfill reading list books from bookclubs. I use the tracker developed by Heidi at My Reading Life's tracker. That maybe the same one Doris uses too. Happy reading - cheers~

    I set goals and once I set them I am like a bratty child who says “you’re not the boss of me!” My only bookish goals this year: to read 4-5 star predictions and if I’m not enjoying the story to DNF it. The other goal is to read the New Morning Mercies devotional by Paul David Tripp every morning or at least 90% of the time. I’m not good at tracking!!

    I love that you don't let it get to you if goals are not accomplished. I only set one goal this year and that is to read the stack of books I actually paid full pricefor or purchased at book outlet. It's a stack of 26 books that I want to prioritize and read to zero this year. I figure if I do minimum 2 books a month from this pile I'll give myself permission to read from my library list or from the Free Little LIbrary books on my shelves. Now the bigger goal might just be not to purchase any more full price or book outlet books this year. I might be doomed. LOL.

My reading goals for 2024 are read a new translation of the bible (I do this every year and it's The Message bible in 2024), read 12 priority cozy mystery series (owned and library), read the latest book in cozy mystery series I want to continue (currently 16), book buying limit of 12 books (I did this goal successfully in 2023 and read more from my shelves and the library as a result), no Net Galley or ARCs (this has been overall a negative experience for me personally and has made reading a chore), and a Cozy Mystery State Challenge (Fun challenge to see if I can read a cozy mystery set in each state. I'm currently at 30 states.) Goal luck with all of your goals in 2024!

      Thanks. Have fun reading The Message. I have loved some passages in that version. It's a paraphrase rather than a translation, so I typically look at it alongside another version. Whoa, you were successful in only buying 12 books for all of last year? That's impressive! Bummer that Netgalley wasn't a good experience for you. Love all your cozy and series goals. Good luck!

      @@BooksAndJams I've been enjoying my read of The Message Bible. It's giving me better understanding of scripture that I didn't grasp in other translations so this is a win for my goals. Reading more of the books I've purchased in the past gave me good insight on book purchases for the future. A lot of the books I purchased on a whim in the past were hard to get through and I didn't like. I have very specific criteria for purchasing books now. Also, I'm lucky that my library can pretty much get me anything I want to read. It's a blessing!

    I am keeping my goals very small this year w/ the major life change going on in a couple of weeks. I have my goodreads goal at 60 books (down from 75). Then I want to read 6 nonfiction and 6 classics (so 1 every other month). I want to get my physical TBR down from 133 to 100 and finish my BOTM books.. I am down to 4. 1 of which I don't think I am going to like :-P

    Hey Krista, as always, I enjoyed listening to your goals for the year. I made a list of 24 books I own to read in 2024. 12 of the books are physical books that I had on my shelves and 12 are popular books that I bought for my Kindle and haven’t read yet. I also have a goal to always have a nonfiction book on prayer going. I own several books on prayer that I want to read this year as I’m doing a deep dive into prayer in 2024 to strengthen my prayer life. As much as it hurts me, I’m going to limit how many books I take out of the library so that I can read the books that I own on my shelves. Mostly, I will use the library for any of your bookclub choices that I do not own. I will probably still use the hoopla app to download audiobooks to listen to while walking, stitching, or driving. I never buy audiobooks. Here’s wishing all of us a great reading year in 2024.

    I have enjoyed tracking my reading thr last few years but haven't ever set any goals other than my Goodreads number, but I jotted a few down this year, to help me read with a tad bit more intention. I feel like you've definitely helped me see how to take a vague wish and make a plan, while also not being too hard on myself if the "check" doesn't happen.
    Netgalley and I are on a 'break'...😂 I keep seeing my percentage go up and then I think, yay you! You went up, request a few and then a few is many and my number drops😂. I'm also pausing my library visits to try to read what I own. I actually mapped out Chamtal's challenge with books I own so we'll see how that goes, I'm such a mood reader 😕

    I have been tracking where the books I read come from, but not all of my books. So if it is from Libby or the library, or if I own it, and is it physical, audio, or digital, this is recorded. I am on a no buy, low buy year for 2024, so any books I do buy, I have to record in my journal. It won’t be many, but there are times, like in a book club, when there is no other way to get the book. The goal for me is to spend less money this year and declutter more.

    I am doing the 52 book, but I'm not doing them in order. Matter of fact, after I read a book, I'll go through the list, if it fits something great! If not, oh well maybe my next book will. I do that with all my challenges and goals. Participating in BOTM, and a few others I have written down. Again, if the book fits great, if not, no biggie. Although I will say this, if I get close, I do look at what I have and what would complete it. It makes them no stress and fun. I'm working on getting them set up and written down.

    • @BooksAndJams
      @BooksAndJams  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I won't be doing the 52 in order either. I need to take a look at that and see if any of my Netgalley, BOTM or Christmas books can fit. I should use the page at the beginning of the journal where you can make a tentative plan. That would be helpful. I normally fill the books in afterwards if they fit like you were saying. We'll see.

    I always do challenges because it narrows down the options I have each time I select a new book to read from my massive TBR mountain. I'm not doing an A to Z challenge this year, but I have in the past. For "Z," I have chosen to use the author's last name as that is much easier than finding a title that has "Z' in it. The ones I'm doing this year are:
    1) The 52 Book Club challenge, which I've done in the past and I'm happy to see you trying it as well.
    2) RespectRomFic Reading challenge
    3) possibly the Ripped Bodice Bingo challenge which happens over the summer, starting on June 1 and ending August 31. With each bingo you get, you are entered into a raffle for a chance to win a gift certificate to their store. I won one last year.
    Last year, I did track the books I bought monthly, and was appalled at the large number. This year, I too am going to try to keep it to a minimum. I currently have five books on my donation pile. So, right now I am holding to buying no more than five books. As I donate books, I can add that number to my "to buy" list. (I've already bought one, so I'm down to four.)

    • @BooksAndJams
      @BooksAndJams  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea when I do the A-Z challenge there a couple letters I am ok if it's in the title or on the cover at all...Z, X, and Q mainly. I love how many people do the 52 Book Challenge. I didn't know it was a thing until this year. Fun! Have fun with your challenges!

    • @sassycatz4470
      @sassycatz4470 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't had the biggest problem
      with "Q" yet, although that could be greatly mitigated by using the author's last name. However, regarding "X," I use the letters "Ex" instead, which are much more prevalent in titles.

    I'm doing Buzzwordathon, and I'm just using that to read some of the books on my shelf.
    I use a spreadsheet to track book purchases. I list the date of purchase, price, and then I periodically check off whether I've read them or DNF them. I've done it for a couple of years and it's made me more intentional in my book buying.

    I want to read more of favorite author's backlist books, I chose 4 authors. I want to read more Canadian Authors, I try to do the challenge last year with booktuber Bookworm Adventure girl, but only read one, she had prompts and provinces of Canada. I least want to
