My GoPro batteries for my helmet (GoPro Hero 9) and cage cam (GoPro Max 360) last about 90 minutes, so I just have them running all the time. (I do have one Chinese 4K video cam on the wing that only lasts ~60 minutes. ) The most interesting clips in my opinion are the ones that you weren't expecting.

You're getting really good battery life, then!

@@AveryFlies Yes, I get almost two hours on the Max 360 by just recording on the forward lens (mounted on the front of my cage so no reason to record the netting/prop behind). This setting cuts down on the processor / electronics power requirements. For the GoPro Hero 9, I bought the longer life batteries that came out about 18 months ago. That gives me about 75 minutes of recording time with the settings I have (including stabilization).

@@dkumpula001 ah, that makes more sense! I'm also considering another max for chase camera duty, so it doesn't have to fly so far back. Good to know it lasts one front only mode!

Love the ideas! I just have a head cam right now but on my first flight last Sunday my head is going all over and i don’t have great footage. I have a second camera and i’m thinking just mounting it on my swing arm. I have a spare harness hole already there where I could mount it. Great tips.
I like the wingtip idea as well but it will be a while before I probably use it.

The wing tip cam is less of a hassle or hazard on takeoff and landing, just saying!

Im definitely going to give it a try! @@AveryFlies I just ordered an 11 which should be here tomorrow. I already have the magnetic snap mount for it. Good idea with tying it off to the lines. I just worry that it might cause problems if it falls off and hangs up in the lines.

@@rule1dontgosplat I guess that's a possibility. My tether is only 3-4" though, keep it short and it shouldn't hit much.

Never thought thought of starting and stopping my chase cam. So there is no way to turn it off/on right? You have it on the entire time and only starting/stopping recording. I know recording is what really drains the battery but I’m wondering now if I could have the battery last a full 2hrs with say like 10-20min of recording at 4K. Thanks for this, going to do some testing on the bench to see now

The remote I have also lets me power all cameras on and off, works well enough, but considering how short my typical flight is, I don't use that function often.

cheers avery. nice review. you said at 3:08min that you dont like the middle wing mounting position? i used that couple of times and the entire horizon is visible. but i am not using gopro as well so angle might be bit narrower.
i think trick it to put the magnet all the way to the back of the wing and angle cam 45° forward
    continue watching

4:30min YEEES haha i was waiting for you to say something about jello and vibrations. so happy you put silicone on that. excited to see results. tell me your feeling about it

It's just personal preference. Straight down is boring to me. Angled a little forward might look good though, I might try that

@@AveryFlies see the video where that tiny asian guy tries my EPPG first time. sound from that angle is also fantastic because low wind at that point. but by all means use what you like of course. we dont need to have all the same angles. the side view is also great! i am gonna try that one day. oh and by the way the selfie stick i use works also good. for launches i usually have it half way out. and i extend it after first meters of flying. for landings i just leave it out as you said correctly it gives a nice angle to check my landing posture. from that i found out my left arm is always a bit lower for unknown reason. i saw it. and was able to remember it last landing with motor out. was a much better landing. cheers mate!

Good tips! So no stabilization on helmet? Does that use less data? Media mod has mic connection? Wow didn’t know thought you had to use that $50 adapter. I’d like to see how the GoPro 12 does with its’ new Bluetooth mic. Thank you for good info.

    • @AveryFlies
      @AveryFlies  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Sometimes I use stabilization on the helmet, but all others no. The stabilization crops the picture in some and then moves the picture around to do the stabilizing. So you lose some wide angle shots.
Media mod has the 3.5mm mic connection built in.
