The largest Muslim community in Beijing, Niujie Mosque

- Cow Street Mosque is the oldest mosque in Beijing, and its Chinese name is "牛街" (niú jiē), which directly translates to "cattle street." In fact, it's very close to the center of Beijing, the Forbidden City, so there are no actual cows here. The mosque was built in 996 AD, making it over 1000 years old, and it's a mix of Chinese and Arabic architectural styles. It covers about 6000 square meters and used to be a political, cultural, and commercial center during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Many Muslim merchants and believers settled here.
During the Cultural Revolution in 1996, the Cow Street Mosque was closed and damaged, repurposed for uses like storage. It wasn't until 1978, after efforts from the government and the community, that the mosque was restored and protected. It gradually regained its status and influence within the Muslim community.
Today, Cow Street is a very famous Hui ethnic food street. It's where we were last night. Yes, Hui cuisine is very well-known. I've been to many big cities in China, and you can find such a Hui halal food street in almost any city. But I usually don't recommend them because they are so famous that they've become tourist attractions. In China, food and items prepared for tourists tend to be a bit more expensive.

Really happy to see old and young Chinese Muslim learning and practising islam..
why do you not go back to middle east ?
Salaam to both of you from Malaysia.
I visited Niujie Mosque several times in 2005 & 2008, if my memory serves me right. That was when I managed to find time in between some work-related activities in Beijing. I was fortunate enough to be able to do juma'ah solat in one of the visits.
If i remember correctly, there are several graves being maintained by the mosque at the back portion of the mosque yard. One grave purportedly belongs to Saad ibn Waqas, a sahabah, who brought Islam to China for the first time.
Sahaba Saad Bin Waqas grave in China still there. May Allah be pleased with him.
Terbaik Tok Wan ..
Alhamdulillah tq tok wan for the info
What a nice, friendly and welcoming people at the mosque.............Lots of love and prayers to the old man that gave you a gift
The spontaneous conversation of the two couple asking you to be a witness for their reconciliation is so beautiful. I wish to visit the Chinese Muslim community someday inshaAllah.
Your videos on the topic of Muslims in China are truly amazing. The way you present the information is not only informative but also captivating. As someone from Pakistan, I can say that your work has touched many of us. Keep up the great work! 💖💖💖💖

Subhanallah, may Allah SWT bless both of you.
Love from Malaysia.
Wow you got to witness a wedding. Really kind people to offer that.
I absoulutely loved the vlogs, the moment were they asked you to be their witness for remarrying was so touching. It showed how muslim trust one another and how they live by the Religion. I always imagined that living in china as a muslim is not the easiest thing but its so impressing how you still try your best! May Allah s.w.t reward every single one of you, Ameen.
I feel like it would also be intresting to see:
- what kinda food is common to the hui ? Or do you just eat the same traditional food as the Han chinese just the halal version.
- do you have traditional hui clothing how are they called, how do they look?
- do you have dances and music that are hui chinese ?
- maybe interviews with other hui or chinese muslim, how living in china is for them and how they manage to balance religion and culture
- maybe interviews with older chinese muslim / hui muslim, how was life back in the days and how is life now as a muslim in china?
I feel like overall hui culture and traditions will be really nice to see.
Thank you for yours and Vionnas effort the video were fun to watch 😊
Thank you very much for your serious comment
-Yes, many are halal versions, but Hui cuisine is very popular and you can see a Hui halal street in the center of almost any major city
-There isn't one where I am, but there is in the north. It's a bit like the mural part in the video. It seems that the girl doesn't wear a hijab but a hat.
-The Hui people don’t seem to be as good at singing and dancing as the Uyghurs, so the songs and dances of the Hui people are not very famous.
-I have interviewed the old man for my next video~ It’s just that I don’t have time to edit it yet, I will do it during the holidays~
I like the small lecture abt divorce in Islam. The man had uttered divorce only once. Hence, he can reconcile with his wife! May they live together happily! Ameen.
Senangnya jadi muslim..al- fatihah di indonesia..al- fatihah juga di cina . .dimana-mana diseluruh dunia bacaannya sama..benar-benar Allah menjaga kemurnian agama ini sampai akhir jaman

MashaAllah, beautiful vlog. I like both of you travelling and experiencing different things and places. May Allah 'azz wa jall bless you both with Ikhlaas, Imaan, Ihsaan, and abundance of wealth, Aameen.
There might be Muslim TH-camrs in Bejing from China or different countries, I suggest that you reach out to them and try to make a small community. Believe me, networking today is the real way to strong relationships and friendships also it becomes easier to live in a city like Bejing if you've Muslims that you can visit, travel with, enjoy holidays, happiness and sorrows. with.
I hope that you meet a lot of Muslims from all around the world in Bejing so that you can build strong connections...keep making such awesome videos. JazakAllahu khayr. As-salamu 'alaykum.
Wa alaikum salam~Thank you for your suggestion~I will try to contact them~I like making friends very much

I find Chinese Muslims very humble and respectful
May Allah keep you with Iman and bless you abundantly
Ameen
Assalamualaykum wbt Brother. Thank you for sharing this video.
I was blessed with the opportunity and pray in Niujie mosque back in 2017 while attending a conference . It was a humbling experience to be there and learn form the community.
The uncles and aunties that I met was very friendly.
I admire the uncle that gave you the scented tea commemorating Mawlid. FYI at the back of the mosque there is a large copper caldron that was built in 1700s used to prepare food for Mawlid Al-Nabiy celebration. I am glad that this tradition continues until now. May we all blessed with intercession from Prophet Muhammad PBUH in the day of judgement later.

Absolutely love your vlogs and sense of humour! Salaam to you and Viona❤
As a minority of sngapore, i feel very overwhelmed by chinese overdominance over our original native values and cultures, but watching your video it reminds me that it's not the race that im adverse to but the greed for power and ethocentricism of some people. Thanks for reminding me of the siblinghood of Islam regardless of race.
Very nice polite Muslim boy explaining while introducing in Beijong, the girl with him😢❤
