gross!! thank god my dad changes them at our family home frequently. i came here to make sure i was replacing the one in my apartment correctly. so hard to believe everyone doesn't change their filters often. it should be against code that the building your in even had that much gunk!! apartments really don't care about their tenants. we moved in to our place and the first time we vacuumed with a brand new top of the line vacuum, the previous owners and our current neighbor has a cat, idk if the previous tenants here in my unit did also, but the vacuum canister was full of sand after the first pass. i was enraged!! i thought the really installed new carpet, since they charged us to clean everything when we moved in, they mentioned we'd have new carpet. yet, i lifted about 3 cups of dust and SAND!! my vacuum was brand new so i know it didn't come from our old place. my theory is the "Sand" was from litter that travels through the vents, since my neighbor is a hoarder with cats, its the only explanation i can find for all the sand in my unit besides his unit. needless to say, after changing the air filters and cleaning religiously the smell has subsided and the sand is not very visible in the canister when i vacuum now. thanks for your video!! -alexa

The smart move, once you've figure out that you cut the right size, is to use the new clean cutout to cut a new piece from the leftovers right away, then store that and know you've got one the right size next time you change it!

Thank you. I have this same filter. I think (not a sure) I have mine in correctly. My unit is in a closet. The filter goes on the bottom. I did not pay attention to which direction it was placed when I removedthe old one. I put the netting facing up. Above that is where the airflows to the vents. The grate like in your video is present but it is painted shut. Management told me no filter goes there. But I did see a product that can be taped or attached with velcro to the outside of it.

Could we just cut pieces to put right behind all of out vents? We have smoke coming into our house from another apartment resident who keeps smoking inside. Or could we just set these on top of all of our vents? Ours are on the floor

I was going to go ahead and count the number of times you said "go ahead' in this video but I decided not to go ahead and do that.

Thank You. I just had a notice slid under my apartment door about hvac coming in on Aug 3/4 to check filters. Finding it rude, since we just moved in June 23 2021.
Why wasn't it done before I rented, as well as the cleaning & renovations??
    Whatever

the video is respectable , but that type of return where they use the wall and does not have suitable insulation so that the temperature that returns to the evaporator unit is ideal , which generates a measly and in my opinion there is more energy consumption because skull or not get a degree under these conditions and that the diameter of the return is not suitable is not the same as having a return of the indicated diameter and with the proper insulation where the temperature that the air that returns to the evaporator carries is the one that corresponds and not It is shown because the Sherock adds thermal load to the air that returns to the machine and is not signaling the temperature that it is. I really thought that here in the USA I would see interesting things in air conditioning, but one is wrong. not even in the most humble country will it be seen that they use the wall as part of the return without insulation and that cleaning becomes uncomfortable tenas.

Please don't use this guy. While yes, cutting the filter will work, odd sized filters can be bought from the internet. Further, it's a thermostat (not dial thingy) and the box outside that blows air into his place does no such thing. That's the A/c unit. It blows hair over coils in a closed system (meaning nothing leaves it) and cools down hot freon tubes so that it can get pressurized again and continue to cool your home. Inside your home is most likely a furnace and fan blower. It uses air from (and I can not stress this enough) INSIDE your home to heat and cool (depending on the settings of your thermostat). I didn't watch the whole thing, but this guy already proved to me that he doesn't know what he is doing. He's the guy that will mess up your home before you buy it and leave you wondering "WTH was he doing".

When switching over from summer to fall, is there anything you can have to do besides switch the thermostat to heat? I changed the filters but it’s blowing out cold air
