To my mind you didn’t miss much going the legal way to the falls vs. the closed section of the trail. You might “earn” the view going up the now closed section a little more than the roundabout way but it’s still a great trail with the same great falls at the end. The train ride from Port Clinton to Jim Thorpe in the fall when the leaves change is phenomenal and the town itself has a lot of great and interesting history and small businesses as you highlighted in your video. Great to see Hiker Mom join you and glad you could get out. We all benefited from the getaway!
in my younger years from 13 up to 17 years old I guess you can say, I lived up in Jim Thorpe and I went to the schools up there. It is a nice quiet and peaceful Plus relaxing little town. I will say Jim Thorpe aint like rest of the little towns or cities. Where they have a lot of crime violence, gangs and all the other stuff. I will say can be boring up here, if you don't drive or have a car you'll be stuck here. I love how they do their Christmas stuff and how they decorate for the holidays. I'm not going to deny that I don't miss living in Jim Thorpe because I do. Next time we get some warmer days that's if we do, I need to go up and visit again
Gotta get up "on the mountain" eh? :-) I spent loads of time in Unionville because my parents lived there. But, we owned the property where they eventually retired since the early 70s. My mom and sister both still live there. One off of Drake's Creek Road, the other up 903 in Towamensing Trails. Back in the 90's I worked for Pocono Whitewater Rafting as a mountain bike guide in the shop on 903.
Jim Thorpe is one of those towns that keeps drawing you back. I love the muggles coffee shop. I went last fall with the leaves changing and the town was so beautifully decorated for Halloween. I have never been up the 100 mile view but looks like I need to get there before they build all those houses. Its a damn shame. So much potential for that area. There are some fabulous small towns in America. Jim Thorpe is one of the best. Awesome video. Thanks for bringing us along as always.
Love the Jim Thorpe area. Spent lots of time up there from the 1970s on. Back in the 90s I worked as a mountain bike guide with Pocono Whitewater Rafting. Also did lots of biking up there. That 100 Mile View spot was the entrance to one of my favorite rides. There is a fire road and trails that parallel Broadway on the ridge above Mauch Chunk Lake. It goes to the far end of the lake and comes back down returning to the entrance for the Switchback Trail and up to Mt. Pisgah. It was called The Twin Peaks Trail. Back in the early 80s, the former Flagstaff resort was a pretty cool nightclub. Live bands and partying!!

That coal boulder is insane! Imagine if it was struck by lighting.
🤯🤯🤯 It's just out there in the town square waiting for it!

Nice video. Thanks Dad.
Surprised at that snake sighting! Bet he was chilly!
Shocked as well. It was max 50F with a breeze. South-facing slope and sunny though. Thanks for watching!
That coal is so heavy, because it's Anthracite; a hard coal that contains the highest amount of carbon out of all coal ranks (86%-97%).
Thanks for the info! Wow!
