  • I'm back in the Magical small town of Jim Thorpe Pennsylvania. I'm here on a week day in February to see what things are like and to show some areas that aren't often seen or mentioned. Should you visit this time of year? What should you expect visiting in the winter time? What else is there to see or do while in Jim Thorpe? Hopefully this video will answer those questions for you.

Cool video! You have now done something I never have in Jim Thorpe - walking Broadway during a quiet, non-touristy day. I have driven it under those conditions, never walked it, but it sure is peaceful. I have walked past "the castle" once which was pretty cool. And I've driven past the graveyard but not walked it. So thank you for sharing some items of local interest that are still new to me. I enjoyed seeing your take on the town at this time of the year.

To find out the names and the dates that people had passed on those grave stones you can do some paper rubbings if you have a piece of coal or a really soft pencil of 8hb. It is suppose to help you to discover their dates and names. Thank you for showing us round these awesome places Jay it really is a beautiful and interesting town.

I want to especially thank you for showing the Packer family headstones. Asa is fascinating himself as an altruist to the Lehigh Valley contributing so much. But I have a strange fascination with Mary Packer after the Asa mansion tour many, many years ago. Not everybody (Mary did) travels like a rock star to Europe with an personal Calliope. LoL 🎶🤣🎶

You can get to the Switchback trail from Hill Rd. There is a trail that leads to Mauch Chunk park. Across from the entrance is the trailhead that goes right up the hill. I believe that a coal train used to be used on the hill. It's a moderate ride up, but you get to coast on the way down.

some could hardly wait, to put the dead in the ground, and during frozen ground days of the year. Many grave yards have usually built in a small ledge, to store the dead, to wait till spring in order to dig. Yet again, you find the best!!!!!!!!!!!

You used to be able to explore the ruins before someone bought the land and built that house on the site. It was supposed to built as a replica of the original "castle", but it looks like a modern home with a couple of turrets. Took firecer to complete. I was last there in 2021, and it wasn't completed and no work was being done.

How is it, that the sun dial tells the correct time, day in-day out…I thought we were “moving” in space, and the earth’s axis was shifting and we were getting closer to the sun? Wouldn’t that “movement”, over the course of the 192 years it’s been there, somehow affect the time on the sundial?

Unfortunately, The people who bought the property and built the house there, tore down more than half of the castle that had been remaining (I assume because it was blocking their view). So much for preserving history. It is now the site where there used to be the remains of a castle but it was more important for someone to build their little house there.

Actually you're wrong. The castle burned and most of it fell down. The house was built years after the cleanup. Try again non resident.

I know the place burned. But they still removed almost half of what was left.
And knock it off with that “non-resident” stuff. You are just showing your ignorance. (Especially since you turned off responses because you didn’t want to be corrected).
