I've got a 1986 XR250, it has always had quite a weak spark, hard to see. The easiest way to see if its sparking is to hold the plug, tricky to do while you kick it. I persuaded my Brother in law to hold it 😂. It's recently been stood a couple of years, but it fired up at first attempt. At least you'll never worry about a flat battery 😂😂
This restoration has come together and the bike looks a treat. My 1982 red/blue RS is standard and has some patina, especially on the alloy wheels but looks and runs fine. Trouble is, seeing your resto job makes me feel like dabbling. After the road test on the next one, I will be sorry this project is finished but someone will buy a nice bike. 🏍
Hi Euan, hope you're well. Super project and brilliant result. The end of a job is always a mixed bag: you've connected with the wee bike and sad to see it go, but you're excited to start a new build. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and keep up the good work. Peace. 🧔👍✌
Superb resto well done the bike just looks great I even like the colour which looks great against the black if I could get my project even close to that I would be over the moon 😉👌👍
I used to ride an RS back in late eighties, as well as my (t)rusty Super Dream. You've done a fantastic job on the RS, absolutely love the paint job! I had a blue one. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see your next one.
Well done, good job, i thought you were going to have to put some fuel in the spark plug hole and heat the plug up to get it to start, but after your wee rest it started straight up
Blasting a frame to remove paint will require a heavy glass media. You wouldn't want to blast an engine with that though. For an engine, I'd suggest aluminium oxide, glass beads or perhaps soda blasting 👍🏻
Looks amazing Euan, well done!
That joy, from the start. We all want to feel like that. / That color really suits this bike.
Colour looks Good.
Awesome build, well done, and great colour choice.
I did a light restoration years ago on a Kawasaki GPZ 305 in this very same colour. Also changed it from belt to chain drive.
Amazing job mate, as always ⚡️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻⚡️

Build looks fantastic. That first start on a new build is always nerve-wracking and also exciting.
Do you keep your builds or sell them?
This one will be for sale!
Hope to be kicking my SR 500 in the next few weeks after over a year of it resting and suffering me trying to mod it
