Dude i spend nearly every day trying to convince people that removing little conveniences from my life has made it so much more fulfilling and they look at me like i'm crazy. So i totally respect this. I was planning on trolling in the comments about how you waxed poetic about getting drunk and going to mcdonalds like it was some magical adventure, but the last few minutes of the video sold me. Youre a good writer. Good job.

I remember going to a video game release night with my brother. Many gamers were in cosplay. Retailers gave out candy, posters, and prizes. People even got a chance to meet and make friends while debating. It was good times. The social aspect of buying physical games are important. I still have certain physical games because of the moments it gave.

I remember going to pick up GTA 4 on release day pre-order at GameStop in Corona, CA. Waiting in line, it was raining, and people were all talking about how exciting this is, and we were all guessing what new features the game might have. "Dude I'm sure you can like walk into every building, and they're gonna have so many new cars, etc.." And then going back home and installing it, having to deal with the Rockstar Launcher that was broken to hell, but eventually I - like many millions of others - filled the shoes of Niko Bellic and went on a ride I will never forget. I think I spent a whole day not even doing missions, just cruising around causing havoc. Good times!

Even though I’m a fan of digital media and how convenient it is it still won’t ever completely replace physical media #1 with physical media anything you buy you own it where with digital media you don’t and another big difference is the picture and sound quality the picture and sound quality on a 4k DVD or even Blu Ray blows away streaming a film digitally and if you ever notice whenever you stream a film sometimes it switches back and forth from HD to SD and sometimes it buffers so there are still a lot of advantages that physical media has over digital media.

A producer (maybe 50) once told me how something’s been lost with gps. The stories and adventures people would go on just to get to a place. Even in the 90s, a long trip to visit someone was “Hopefully I’ll get there by tonight”. Detours, realizing your going the wrong way, not knowing the fastest (boring highway) routes. Asking for directions, going a buying a map of the town. Sounds horrible to me, but he said they had plenty of adventures because of it.

Yeah its weird everything has a reaction at the end of the day. If you make something easy you will obviously be losing something....if you make something hard then you will be adding something. I wouldnt want to give up GPS but I bet life would be more interesting without it.

I remember going to a midnight release for Guitar Hero 3 at a Game Crazy (small game store they started attaching to Hollywood Videos before going out of business) and this store always made midnight releases really fun where they’d usually have some snacks and everyone would hang out and talk games. This night, since Guitar Hero 3 had a playable demo, they decided to have a competition and the winner got first place in line to buy the game. I worked my way through the tournament bracket and eventually made it to the final. Being that I was only 15 at the time, the guy I played let me pick the song, so I picked Tenacious D’s “The Metal” and ended up winning the whole tournament. Midnight rolled around and I was elated to be the first one to get the game that night and my dad was surely glad to get to leave earlier too. I walked up to the counter to buy the game and they said “Congratulations on winning the competition. Your copy is free!” And they not only gave me the game itself but the whole guitar controller / game bundle. I remember hearing a couple “no way”s and I was just so excited and proud to have won the game for free. To this day it’s one of my all time favorite gaming memories.

I remember when I was 12 I really wanted Phantasy Star Universe for the Xbox 360. The issue was that it was impossible to find at almost any gamestop. I remember going to my gamestop, asking them if they had it, and they didn't. They called another gamestop, they also didn't have it. I asked for the number of a 3rd gamestop, and when I got home I called that store, and started a chain of getting the number of another store from the current one until I found it. It took at least 10 stores til I found one that had a copy but had to wait a few days before my dad was willing to make a 45 minute drive to get the game. That was probably the most exciting 45 minutes of my life until that point and the drive home I was just staring at the back of the case grinning ear to ear.
Truly a very special game to me, and a special memory.

This is touchy for me. I actually can compare my memories from my childhood forcing my father to go to the shopping center just so I can see what s new in game stores. We drove all the way to the mall where we didn t just get the game and left we actually had some family time and till this day I can still feel the memories, still smell the scent of many places we´ve been to all kinds of stuff that I cannot relive by buying games on store. Physical stuff will once be remembered as a renimiscent of what life was before we took a rocket-fast living as basic thing. So yeah I am mostly going to these stores even tho I bought games online I don t feel the price I don t recall buying it. You got my sub. Hope you continue doing this. - Love RE series too

Lots of memories made witnessing the peak of society during Madden midnight releases at Wal-Mart that's for sure! I feel a lot of great entertainment is being missed due to the convenience of digital downloads. Something isn't good within the first five minutes, shut it off and click on the next thing. That game, movie or show I just turned off could have been something I may have actually enjoyed. With physical mediums, there was a sense of obligation to the product after having that journey and putting in the effort to create the entertainment moment. This meant giving the thing a chance to develop, which I believe is becoming a forgotten perspective. Couldn't convince my parents of that though when we only made it 5 minutes into a rented copy of Scary Movie 2 before they shut it off and didn't give a rat's ass about the efforts put into the entertainment moment but hey that night is also now a core memory of mine.

I remember just being surrounded by endless stories, from horror to mystery, and being excited by whatever I was going to watch with my family. Then Blockbuster started releasing videogame rentals! Devil May Cry is my FAVORITE series. I fell in love with it since the DMC1 demo came out with my Resident Evil Code Veronica (REMEMBER WHEN PHYSICAL COPIES USED TO COME OUT WITH DEMO DISCS??? ❤❤❤). I was so excited when Devil May Cry (the full game) finally got released. I immediately went to my Blockbuster to rent it out. I'm so glad I held onto my physical media. I've moved around quite a bit and sometimes the new internet providers have been total shite. Currently the ISP that the property managers are using likes to severely slow down the service at around midnight. It's a total pain if I'm trying to listen to music or watch a movie. When it happens (and it can last for a couple of hours); I just grab some DVD or CD (my collection goes back to the mid 90's) and enjoy time away from the internet. We had no service for an entire week once, and since I'm not a fan of watching movies or listening to music on a smartphone; the physical media was a life-saver.

This video was really nostalgic, it brought up a lot of memories I had while picking up games from shops. One in particular was Dishonored 2 back in 2016. I preordered the collector's edition at GameStop and vaguely remember picking it up. But, really, the special memories happened at home. I was recovering from a foot surgery at the time and I have these memories of just watching the gorgeous ocean waves of Karnaca while soaking my feet in an epsom salt bath in a tiny foot tub in my living room. More so, since Karnaca gave me Sicilian vibes, I started cooking chicken fettuccine every few days for lunch as I was playing the game and it felt like I was having a rare feast onboard the Dreadful Wale. Video games, whether we're aware of it or not, do become a part of our lives and can inspire us to try new things as we make these memories. Thanks for sharing some of yours, I love Resident Evil too, and I'm real sorry you got sick on launch day!

I've tried explaining this to my kids. How the experience of going out to buy things was often more memorable than whatever we got.
Me and my friends would go into town to find the latest underground music in a push pull tango with the girls who wanted to go clothes shopping. Then, inevitably end up waiting in the underwear section placed outside the changing rooms while the girls tried something on. You'd look around and quietly acknowledge the other equally uncomfortable looking boyfriends stuck next to a rack of panties and bras! pmsl! Not fun at the time , but it's so funny to look back on.
What kids today don't realise is that the trip to buy something was as much, if not more about spending time with friends. Catching up, messing around and having fun together as it was for whatever you wanted to buy.
Plus, you appreciated your new Tape, CD or video game much more after the time and effort it took to get.
The funny thing is, I remember the time spent with my friends looking for the media more than the music or games I bought.

Your story is amazing, thank you for sharing.
Where I live we didn't had that much access to new releases during my childhood, but still I remember a small shop that used to import games for the PS1 and PS2 and I remember staying hours in front of them (I didn't had a console back then). When I "came of age", PC was the option for me since it was easier getting games for it since eveything was digital and all of my friends played there, so I have really good memories of that time, but also remember going to the mall and seeing all the cool collectables and accesories and physical games consoles had and got a little envious. Now back to a couple of years ago, my friends keep playing on PC, I got tired of it since I already work from home 8 hours in front of one, so I went the console route. Nowadays some local stores are now doing midnight launches, but not as frequently and I'm already accustomed to go digital from my PC days, but man physical does have something else.
Edit: now I remember my last midnight launch was GOW Ragnarok. It was a digital preorder, but still made it "special". Kid and wife went to bed early, so I ordered a pizza and spent the hours until midnight talking with old friends on Discord until it was the time the countdown came to 0 and let me play the game. I may have stayed until 4 AM playing. Luckily I didn't had to commute.

Stumbled across your channel randomly. Watched most of your videos. I personally buy digital, only because they don't wear out, they don't get lost, they don't get damaged and I can always redownload them if I go to a different console, etc. BUT, in saying that, I totally agree with your video and the reasoning behind buying physical. I do have a lot of memories about games being released and waiting in lines for the doors to open, etc etc. Sadly, I think we are so far gone down the digital tunnel, that we are at point of no return and there are not enough stores that promote the "launch day" like Game Stop (EB Games) did. I'm going to subscribe to your channel. You don't have a lot of content but what you do have is quality. And I like quality over quantity most times. good story telling man, reminds me of the times i was basically homeless with my mom and dad. all we had was my car and he would trade stuff with people, sometimes we had to drive many miles and while it was sometimes a pain in the ass, thinking about it now I think fondly of it. I never did so much driving before, it felt like an adventure.

Subbed to your Survival Horror video, and this is my second now. Just wanted to say I really love your energy and outlook on life! I'm one of the ones that miss these elements too, and especially rental stores. A little story of my own. My former local independent rental store (which has now been 3 different things since then, as well as the smoke/vape store it is now) used to rent all the major blockbuster films, had a games rental section, a huge $0.99 cent VHS horror section (which I became a huge fan of in my late teens), etc. Greatest thing about that era (prior to the internet) was the pure mystery of everything. You couldn't just google ratings or other people's opinions on a movie or game, you had to try it. As a child age 10 to early teens in the mid to late 90's I had a subscription to a few magazines like Nintendo Power and Tips & Tricks and the like. That was pretty much the most information you were getting on anything you could play, outside of that, you never knew whether a game was good or bad before you played it, the same with most movies. Got stuck trying to solve a puzzle you couldn't figure out? Tough luck! You actually had to figure it out!
Marketing was everything back then, but it didn't encapsulate the entirety of all the good titles, which is another thing I miss. I was allowed 1-2 rentals by my parents on the weekends, and I would usually rent something I already knew was good, and something I had never heard of. One of my favorite games on the N64 for instance ended up being one I had never heard of at the time (and one most still don't today) "Body Harvest" a fantastic hidden gem that should have been one of the best games on that console but was marred by a lack of marketing budget. Come to find out many many years down the road, the company that made that game was DMA Design, the former name of a company now known as Rockstar North! Turns out the engine and related technology utilized in Body Harvest (which was open world 3d and quite ahead of its time) was the prototype work for what became GTA 3 on the PS2.
In any case, there's a good chance with the way the world's curated opinion is consistently at our fingertips now days, many of the movies or games I once rented in a time of naivety would have been passed on or missed today due to the heavy curating of the industry now days. What I don't miss though is having to mark the inside of game manuals from store rentals in order to keep track of which cartridge carried your internal save file (prior to games that utilized the controller memory pack), and hoping someone else who rented it didn't delete it to store their own! Imagine trying to play through a Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time cart with 3 save file slots and 2-3 day rentals as a child (fortunately I owned it)! But despite its downsides, the mystery and enchantment of that era seems almost unfathomable by todays standards.
Once again, love your content & keep up the good work! Always takes me down nostalgia lane!

    • @OpticLureProductions
      @OpticLureProductions  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Oh yeah totally agree on the mystery. Back then you would just go into a store and see a game you never even heard of and find out it was a masterpiece. Happened to me with Shenmue 2. And man those save files were a pain in the ass lol but I miss all of that stuff so much. Thanks for your amazing comment and im glad you enjoy the content. I appreciate you taking the time and watching!

Buying into digital is giving up your rights to own any media. You give up control to the corporations. Once physcial media is phased out, they wont sell movies or games anymore. You will have to pay subscriptions for everything and those subscriptions will gradually get more expensive. You will be paying to play or watch anything and wont ever be able to just pop in a game or movie and play for free again. It will cost you to play every time. Not only that but they get to choose what games or movies are available to you. They can delete any content they wish and take away your access to some of your favorite movies or games. Also there is no refunds and no guarantee that you will be able to watch or play what you want. If you get banned your banned from playing at all. Thank about the control it gives corporations.

UK viewer here - This is such a wonderful, and important video. I have so many similar memories picking up games - buying Silent Hill 3 on launch near the end of my first year of university where we nearly crashed a car, or getting the castlevania GBA collection where there was only 1 copy and no-one, not even the shop, gave a shit about it. You're so right - the stories are intertwined with the games.

Man ... I remember picking up the Songs Of Faith And Devotion album by Depeche Mode in 1993. I think I could've gotten it from that one store in my own town but there was this glorious store in a mall in the town nearby. It made the whole thing that more exciting. I clearly remember picking it up and bringing it back home on my bicycle like it was the most precious thing in the world. Like I had just gotten away with a pirate treasure. I still got that CD to this day. I could say the same thing about a lot of physical media. Like Serenity DVD, the Firefly follow-up. Or that Peter Facinelli film Stealing Time which I had to import from the US. There is just an irreplaceable value in anticipating a thing, a piece of art, heading out there, hunting for it, getting it and then losing yourself in it. Digital can't provide for that. It's easy. It's quick. But it's also vapid and fleeting. Many people today favor convenience to save time. Time they then mostly don't know that to do with. Streaming? Binging? They key to a great experience - which separates art from content - is that it's not that easy to get. When the first Transformers movie came out in 2007 (and yes, I know it's highly flawed) we had to drive to the other side of the country to watch it on the big screen. I guess all the local screenings were sold out. One of my oldest friends picked me up from work and then had to rush so we wouldn't miss the beginning of the movie. We had a blast watching it. And an even bigger blast laughing about how stupid the plot was when we waited outside the cineplex for the rain to stop so we could get the car on a huge parking lot. Ok, movies are not physical media but you get the point. We would never had that pleasant experience if we had just clicked button to stream it online :)

Then grabbing the mountain bike to go bombing down some treacherous trail the next weekend. It's good to go on adventures and build memories, especially when you're young. I'd only say, aim higher, friend. The world is an amazing place. Turn off the game console, put the phone down, go out and explore the real world. You won't regret it.

I still remember going to the post office way back in 1992 to pick up my copy of Dune 2. It was my first RTS game, and it started a life long love for the genre. I also vividly remember visiting the local equivalent of Blockbuster in the 80s and 90s, as well as browsing the movies and games at this DVD- and record shop just down the street from where I used to live. Now all that is gone, and all that's left is online.stores and streaming. I still collect physical media, both because I grew up with it and old habits die hard, and because I like being able to hold something like a comic, a DVD or a book in my hand. Also, paying $15 for a movie and have it in my shelf is far better in my opinion than having to subscribe to 40 streaming services to _maybe_ get access to everything I want.

Reason I mostly buy digital now is that it's basically the same: discs require install and download patches. Some don't even really have the game, just info or a key like that. You still need to download it. So there's really no different.
"But it can be taken from online" I hear someone say. I know. That's why I don't keep my game library online. I download them into external storage now. I never ever ever rely on downloading and redownloading my games. That's just not reliable. So I'd rather download them and keep them on a storage device. And take real good care of those devices. And when I get better storage devices, I'll pass on my library to those newer devices to keep my collection save and sound. It's more work, but much more worth it when physical isn't really physical anymore.

This is hands down one of my favorite videos on TH-cam. The way you retold your experience picking up RE2 captured the reverie of getting a game and enjoying it in the ways we all did as kids that has unfortunately been lost due to the ease of access. I genuinely believe if more people started to game like they did as kids I.e. limiting their viewing of gameplay overviews/ not watching so many reviews/ buying physical/ they would enjoy gaming more.
Last week I traded in my PS5 Digital for a PS5 Slim (disc) because I felt so detached from the games in my digital library. There’s just something so pure in nature with owning a physical game.

**thank you so much; explanation at the bottom**
Dude you're so right and although I'm almost 50 now, I can relate to your Blockbuster part of the story also.
I worked at a movie theater back then.
Because of my hours I would be the guy whether it's to get together with a girlfriend or to hang out with buddies, who would make the run to Blockbuster while everyone is at work on the release date of when they get copies of the movie that was only in theaters a few months ago.
At least where I grew up, (on a release date of a movie) if you didn't get it early at Blockbuster you're not going to and your only chance was to be off of work that day or to have unusual work hours.
And I remember being the guy who was able to tell my friends and my girlfriend, "I got Pulp fiction for tonight!"
And sir you are so right it's those memories that go along with all the things in life that really make who we are more pleasant and the memories surrounding the item are from a time we will equally not forget no matter what era we grew up in.
By the way I somehow stumbled upon your channel the other day and I'm a new fan and subscriber ever since.
Somehow your matrix video came up in my feed and I've been trying to watch your videos ever since.
I am an over-the-road truck driver who is always looking for ways to find something to listen to to kill the boredom OR to just stop thinking about how much I miss my wife and children and even my dog.

I’m honestly surprised that nobody attacked the car lol. Do you know gamers! I would’ve started squeezing right trigger in my head, and I would’ve been it! I would agree digital over physical but there are so many benefits to digital nowadays. Game share is a big one, when you and a friend can pay the price of one game and both of you can play is a ridiculously good deal.
Nowadays I have children and they get their hands on everything, including game discs thats are in the console lol. My playthrough of borderlands 3 ended that day and even now years later I have a craving to play it but no can do.
The lack of creativity when I comes to physical copies is just an insult. I remember the days I would go to town on the bus to pick up the latest game, I is a fond memory. Picking up gears of war and there is a printed instruction manual an art book and a steel book reading and just taking in the artwork made you more excited to get home and play. Nowadays you get nothing just a case and disc and its very underwhelming.
Lastly installing games to your console just takes way to long to buy physical. I'll always remember when I got my xbox one so excited to set it up and play the latest assassins creed only to be faced with a download screen for 5 hours to set up the console and download all my new games, heartbroken I didn't get to play it the next day.

I remember when Brutal Legend came out and I asked my dad to drive me to the far Game Crazy because the one by our house closed. I was sick as a dog that day. Swine flu was going around and I dunno if I had it, but I’ve never had the flu as bad before or since. Anyway, it was a cold, rainy day and we made the trek out there and as soon as I got home, I popped the game in and played for as long as my flu riddled body could. I discovered a ton of awesome music in that game, had a blast driving around, killing monsters with a guitar and listening to Jack Black’s character gush about the world as much as I myself did. I had a real bad fever so I went to bed early that day with Motley Crue’s Dr. Feel Good running a groove on my brain. It was only appropriate given my condition. I may have been half dead, but that was such a fun and memorable day for me.
A similar story happened when Left 4 Dead 2 and Assassin’s Creed 2 both came out on the same day. We went to the same Game Crazy, I picked up both games, and we went to the Food 4 Less next door for some dinner ingredients. I was so excited for those games, I carried them into the store with me lol. I couldn’t let them go. I love driving with my dad and will always remember the times he took me to Game Crazy, spending some time with him, and playing awesome games at the end of the day.

The core idea of this video is honestly beautiful. Remembering to live, to smell the roses, but honestly I feel as though I’ve done that with digital releases. Now yes I love picking physical games up l, I’ll never forget the day I skipped school with my mom and sister in order to buy a switch animal crossing edition on launch day. I could go on and on about that but I can also describe the feeling of calling up my friends, all of us anxiously anticipating it to be midnight so we can experience a new game together. My favorite game of all time has to be animal crossing new leaf, a game I bought Christmas Day on the eshop. I remember receiving a 3ds for Christmas and continuously reopening the eshop desperately wanting to get it. That download to me was like that car ride, slow but part of the journey. Digital doesn’t always has to mean worse, live a little, get involved. If you don’t engage with the things you love, you’re not gonna get a whole lot back.

Thursday, June 6th, 2002. The day I got my PlayStation 2.
I was 17 at the time. For months I had been saving up to buy one. With money from my after-school job I was sure to get it now. But two events changed how this story would unfold. The first was my mother putting down $15 at the local Walmart to put the PlayStation on layaway. Mind you that I never asked her to do this. But that act saved me money and insured my console would be there. The second thing that happened was my most recent paycheck. Remember, I had been saving up little by little for the past few months. But this latest pay check covered the entire amount of the console. So I took my combined monies and headed to Walmart with two of my best friends. My eccentric friend Ira and the real life version of Hiei, Dorrell. Now let's do some math 😒. We walked 1.5 miles from my house to Wal-Mart and got the system with pretty much no problem. This is where the fun starts. We walked another 1.8 miles to this place called Coventry to get some games from The Record Exchange. With the extra cash I was able to buy Bloody Roar 3, Devil May Cry, and a memory card. I had an extra PS1 controller and games at the house, so I pretty much had a complete setup ready.
But this was finally it! After almost two years of waiting I finally got a PlayStation 2. This was the biggest purchase I had ever made in my life up to this point. I even had enough left over to buy my homies some Chipotle and Subway. I walked the 1.9 miles back to my house in a state of pure euphoria. We got back to my spot and had a blast for those few hours until my boys had to narrowly make curfew. 😅
Now some people might read this and see a foot blistering 5.2 mile slog. But I see it as just one more reason why my childhood was priceless.❤
    (Edited for capitalization.)

Enjoyed your story man, cuz I had the same story as your but I live in Egypt
I pre ordered the game a month before but standard edition, it was a rainy day and slept only for 2 hours cuz I can't stop thinking about it, was watching some RE2 PS1 speedruns the day before just to calm myself XD
the moment I arrived home and turned on my PS4 and see Capcom logo appears on my TV....had the one of the my best days in life
that's why Resident Evil is so magical

It's a combination of the little things that makeup a good game retrieval story. Beer - Hangover - McD - Pothole - Store Delay. I remember whole days in the market looking for Atari 2600 games in the 80's, Megadrive & PS1 games in the 90's and so on, till about 8th gen (PS4). In the future you'll have to explain to kids what "physical games" mean T_T

I remember going to the midnight launch of Mass Effect 3 with my buddy at our local GameStop. We had class the next day but we didn't care. All we cared about was that we were finally gonna see the ending to mass effect trilogy! While we waited in line, we met some other mass effect fans and had awesome conversations with them. We compared choices we made in the series, class types we used, characters moments, etc.
    Good times. 😄
You just can't do that with digital downloads.

I feel like I valued games more when I bought physical copies. I have many stories to tell. Like when I first got an xbox 360 a friend and I walked 10 miles around the suburbs in a blizzard to each game stop nearby so that I could get a copy of Dead Space. I definitely cherished the game. I really look forward to this remake. 2 days!!!!
By the way I miss midnight releases.

This video really surprised me. And it also helped me understand better why I love physical media, so I'll share a story as well.
Close to RDR 2's release day, I was really, really anxious for it. And I really just couldn't wait, I was really, really pumped, couldn't sleep all that well already on the Wednesday, and the game was coming out on Friday. So this is when I should mention I live in Brazil, and physical releases sometimes end up on some physical stores one day before the official release date for some weird logistical reasons, I guess (at least in São Paulo). That of course means I just got out of my bed on Thursday determined to get that game before most of the world would get to play it because I was just overwhelmingly hyped.
Unfortunately, RDR 2 was one of the exceptions, and I couldn't find it on a single store (I went to 10, btw). As I exited the 10th store I was really bummed I would have to wait for another day to play it, and the cashier just notices my sadness and goes like "Hey, y'know what, gimme your phone, I'll call you the second the game arrives on our store" and I obviously just handed out my number. Friday comes, and the cashier calls me at like 5:30 AM and I jump from my bed and go straight to the store. The cashier just greets me with a silly little smile that I remember to this day and hands me the game, store isn't even properly open yet, and that's that. I skipped a college day and went straight home to play that damn thing, and it was totally worth it.

I've had this discussion about buying gamecopies vs downloading with my buddy. I have over 70 games at home, hes got none, all digital. Then I came with the argument he could break his console or forget his account password and he finally went in with me and recognized, that physical copies are just something special. Btw, thx for sharing that story of yours, nice slice of life I can relate to 😁

Beautiful story, its true with many issues with our culture of instant gratification. I remember linking up with my good friend to buy Pokemon Pearl, he bought Diamond in Argos which is a UK retail store that doesn't even exist anymore.

Back when Metal Gear Solid HD collection came out for 360 I skated to gamestop the next town over to pick it up at midnight. I didn't know it was the same night as a new COD release. Huge crowd with a line going around the shopping center. When it was my turn the gamestop employees called me out for being "the only person NOT picking up COD" then the entire line started booing me 🤣
Still walked out of there happier than ever excited to play one of my favorite series again.

You are fighting a LOSING BATTLE if you focus only on physical medium.
The broader argument needs to be about *OWNERSHIP* which can encompass physical and DRM-Free digital.

Streaming services kinda suck because you never get access to the bonus content - like behind the scenes - I mostly buy movies in physical format for these things. "The making of" stuff tends to be really interesting to me.

My older sibling got Super Smash Bros Brawl at launch while I was at school, so I didn't get to go to a game store to pick it up but coming home from school and suddenly having Brawl was an amazing feeling. A few years later at E3 2011, Nintendo announces there will be a Smash Bros for 3DS/Wii U and I was hyped at the idea of playing Smash Bros on the go and in HD respectively. At E3 2013 the first trailer with gameplay for these games were shown and I was amazed at how great the Wii U game looked. In October 2014, I got Smash for 3DS at launch and playing it with friends at school shortly after was a lot of fun. Then on November 2014, Smash for Wii U was finally out on a Friday and my Dad knew how excited I was for the game and drove me to Gamestop right when I got home from school. The Gamestop was packed with some people there also getting the game and I remember talking with other people about who they were gonna main. I got the game and 3 amiibos (Amiibos launched for the first time along with Smash for Wii U) and then proceeded to play the game all weekend long. I had waited years for the game and it was surely worth it and those memories on launch day will be something I'll never forget.
