    when you buy a game, having that license physically is important. This protects you from losing your game library from hackers, bans, etc as well has keeping game distribution from being a monopoly. You can also sell it or trade it in which is good for local game stores.

      When you purchase a game digitally you get a 100 year license to use the game it's the the millennium digital act, they can't delete your game take it away plus you can get digital games cheaper than retail i sales i got fc6 for 30 on the store its 55 retail, theres pros to each but assuming digital is worse is wrong.

      @ChaseSchleich 2 ปีที่แล้ว +54

      The only real benefit today is the ability to sell and trade. If you lose internet or you lose the ability for your console to verify a license for whatever reason, you're still fucked. When Sony's servers went down a couple months ago, I couldn't play digital or physical games. It didn't matter what it was, it had to verify the license and couldn't. Physical copies are becoming just a license ID on a disc that allows you to download some or all of the game from Sony/Microsoft or whoever. Even if you have a disc that has the entire game file on it, it doesn't matter because of DRM now.

    Speaking as someone who prefers digital, most of my PS5 (exclusive) games are physical, the reason: price.

    • @FlopFan69
      @FlopFan69 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    What a suprise. Physical gives you more rights and control over the games you bought.
    With physical I can play the games forever. No download, no internet required, no expiry date, no relying on corporations.
    When the servers are shut down I can install my game from the files in the disc. As for patches there is an archive website that contains the patches for every console game ever made which can be installed completely offline via USB.
    Digital is full price, long term renting. Physical is forever.
    Backwards compatibility? I don't have to rely on a corporation to provide this as I take matters into my own hands by keeping ALL of my games forever.
    And despite fear mongering consoles last if you look after them. I still have consoles from 20 and 30 years ago that work as good as the day I got them.
    I play forever. Digital folk don't.

    This is one of the problems with having a US centric viewpoint, not that I'm knocking you for it, just that it's part of why you don't appreciate the reason why this seems to be particularly prevalent in Europe.
    In the US you've only had an RRP bump this generation, from $60 to $70, after decades. In Europe we had a bump at the start of last gen, UK went from £50 to £60, and we've now had another bump at the start of this generation, UK went from £60 to £70; physical copies tend to have competition between online retailers leading up to launch, meaning you can get a discount if you shop around, prices tend to revert to RRP on launch day and will then start dropping after around a month, sometimes quicker if a game sells below expectations.
    Digital prices, however, will always be RRP barring limited time sales, so if you want your money to go further this double bump has pushed European buyers into going back to physical for the time being.

      The same happens in Latin America and other parts of the world. I agree I think having options for both is a great idea however I do think digital owners should get a discount for going with the option that doesn't create trash. We are also trusting that our licenses are preserved with the library providing them.. I just don't think that they should cost the exact same.

    Something I've been saying for a looong time is that physical games should have writable partitions. Like a section on a disc or a Switch cartridge which stores patches and DLC.
    Perhaps it could give physical game stores a reason to exist. They could perhaps offer to write the extras you need onto the disc on the spot.
    Probably won't happen, because publishers want the biggest profit margins possible on the Switch and don't want to take the responsibility for their bloated games.

    Digital games could lock without online services. Some physical games could still run without online service depending on the game your playing. Also if you’re a toxic player and got suspended or ban all your digital games you purchase under your account will lock 🔒 because of the terms and agreements violation.

    as a brit specifically, physical games are usually like £5 - £10 less (or even £15 - £20 if its really old) than digital, which definitely makes physical more favourable alongside the fact that you save more storage space buying physical games.

    • @crowevil4658
      @crowevil4658 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The reason physical depreciates is because of space. Retail shelf space is expensive, and often these discounts are applied to move inventory quickly to save money. The more items sit on shelves, the more companies lose - cost to manufacture & distribute over time is generally the return on investment. On digital, companies, for the most part, own the server space, and it’s cheaper to maintain the data “per unit,” which allows bigger shares for distributor and developer, hence why these prices rarely come down to retail levels.
