- All Mary Cane-Honeysett wanted to do was paint. But she never got her wish of going to art school. At 14, her father took her out of school to work. She was told she was unteachable, so she taught herself. Mary never went to art exhibitions and could only see clearly out of one eye. Yet her exquisitely detailed paintings of her disappearing neighborhood in London and her paintings of the old and beautiful buildings of Tuscany and America are masterful works of art. She did both. Depended on the weather, of course. She preferred painting on site but so many passersby would interrupt her!
