Mary Cane-Honeysett…I won’t be forgetting you, my dear. These two document videos by one of your sons touched my heart beyond words. Remarkable lady, if only we could have shared a cup of tea, I would have loved it…a California lady who adores Mary.
What a sad and incredibly uplifting story.. I am 83 and pretty healthy and live in my own home with my niece living with me. My daughter and son in law want me to come live with them, maybe I will, but not yet. I paint, but not nearly with the same drive and talent that Mary has. I loved this sensitive documentary of this talented and very grounded lady. She has a wonderful sense of humor and sense of where she is in her life. And she has good family. Thank you for sharing her with us.
I totally agree with your comments. This generation and their attributes, attitudes, etc is/was what the world could use so much more of. My father was born in 1929 and passed away 2020
A truly moving documentary that attests to love as well as talent. I'm 80. All my sisters paint. I have come lately to water colour. I try to imbue my own family with the joy and sense of fulfilment that art provides. A beautiful and fitting ending to a creative life well lived. From Australia
I also grew up in and still live in Fulham. In fact, the painting you can see at 8.44 is of my Auntie and Uncle's Locksmith shop 'F. Richards and Sons'. I spent half my childhood in that shop and the flat above it. The shop is still there today, in fact this lady painted it again years later, when it had become a light/lamp shop, which you can see at 13.55. I know where everyone of these paintings are located and today most of it is gone. I only saw this film today because an art-loving friend sent me the link thinking I might enjoy it and I sure did. It was like being 10 again. What an amazing artist this lady was and only 5 mins from where I live.
Shame on the Royal Academy for missing this talented artist. This lady has a twinkle in her eye and the ability to survive well after a life changing event. I enjoyed her story and you are blessed to have such a mum. Brenda
I absolutely love her painitngs and her style. I think Johannes Vermeer would have genuinely appreciated her work. Finding beauty in a small world, and with an incredible awareness of detail.
@@SL-sd3sg I presume you mean the nobs at the Royal Academy are a bunch of snobs, if so I wholeheartedly agree with you. Mary was a true gem , a wonderfully talented artist and person.
I can’t tell you how moving this film is to me. I saw the first one when she was trying to get into the Royal Academy and that was brilliant. It’s good to see a follow up and if there are more I will certainly keep my eye out. I am a painter myself living alone in my 60s in Vermont. I feel like this is so meaningful and so beautifully done. I believe it should win an award. I also believe that her work is brilliant. She’s not really a copyist as she says. She has a great command of shadows, a good ability at painting the figure And her knowledge of the painting profession is commendable. Anyway that’s my two cents! I’ll be looking out for more.
I agree with all of the above. Royal Academy awarded drawings that honestly, to me looked ugly and infantile. Mary's work was brilliant and took so much talent.
I’m a painter in NH, just loving this excellent documentary. She’s such a delightful person. She has the ability to not take herself too seriously, while still persevering.
Oh please do make a book of your Mama's works of art. I would love one. She is so beautiful. I have been painting steady for 5 yrs I am 67, she is so inspiring. My heart is singing just watching her. Norman Rockwell quality painter. Bravo
I am painting now too at 66. I raised 4 children and was a lawyer. I'm still very busy at work, but I love painting. So calming, making something beautiful. Keep it up
I cannot believe how stupid the Royal Academy is. Mary's Fulham works are wonderful. AND important. That the Academy cannot see this is just typical of institutions. They will later on, of course, when OTHERS have been able to see through the bias of modernism or the present vogue. Don't get me wrong; I am an abstract/modern painter. But you have to be insensitive to be blind to the importance of Mary's work. I'd give my eye teeth to own one of her paintings, and I don't say this about many people's work. Thank you SO MUCH for making these documentaries and for sharing your mother with us. She is a National Treasure and those like her, of her generation and of her caliber, are fast disappearing. It makes me infinitely sad. Thank you!!
What a moving and beautiful story, and what a truly gifted woman Mary was. Her son himself is an artist with his camera and narration. Simply delightful.
Just watched this documentary, after coming upon it by chance….beautifully done, loved the sympathetic way it was put together and the music was so fitting. What an inspiration Mary is, accepting her illness and the fact that she couldn’t do the one thing she loved with dignity.I laughed at her gentle humour and cried when she had to leave her home with all those wonderful memories of generations of her family. She has three children who love and respect her…a true testament to an amazing woman, and a life well lived. I adore her paintings!!
I was glued to the screen! What a remarkable lady, super talented painter. She didn't need to study painting at art school, she already knew how to paint. The portrait of her son has exceeded my expectations hundred fold. What a beautiful family, looking after their mum. She achieved so much in her life. ❤🤗
What an incredible artist and a warm hearted documentary, very glad that it appeared on my suggestions Thank you very much for sharing her story, her tenacity and talent. The Royal Academy should’ve taken one of her building paintings, very special they are indeed, I totally get her love of bricks and worn buildings 🙂 hopefully her work will get more widely recognized Thank you for sharing
Something we all face as we age and there is no plan "B", in these situation. I applaud her Courage, her determination, her sense of when to bow out with Grace and dignity. Bless you for doing this for your Mother,A Very talented Artist, A Sweet Spirit, and a "Grand Dame "! God Bless you all for sharing this film with us. Quite A lovely Memory and documentary for us who are facing the same. 🙏✌️🇬🇧♥️💙🇺🇲😢
I so enjoyed this video. You must be so very proud of your mum! I love her style & think she’s a great “natural artist”. Bless all of you! Best love from Canada! 🇨🇦❤️❤️💐💐💐👏🇨🇦
Wow, what a person, we could all learn from her. Like her I was born in Fulham, but moved out to a new town when I was 5 years old. Great to see she did get a picture into the RA summer exhibition.
What a wonderfully remarkable woman. My dad was an artist and had brain cancer, which left him paralyzed his right side and unable to paint or draw. He was so frustrated, so I told him is art was in his mind, heart and soul and he could draw and paint left handed. He started drawing with his left hand, but wanted to paint. So we set up his oils, pushed his wheelchair up, and he did, beautifully❤ all the while during his 7 weeks of radiation.
This lady is a survivor but she is one of the lucky ones; she’s got a house to sell, she’s got her eyesight and her marbles. You can always adapt your painting; Monet had cataracts and painted the most beautiful paintings of his life. Shes also got family and a new home in a beautiful part of London.
I loved watching this documentary and the previous one….beautiful documentary, wonderful relationship, fantastic artist…..totally agree with another comment, the RA should definitely do a solo exhibition for this inspirational artist ❤
I’m only a few minutes into the video and I’m pulled right into the story of your fascinating Mom. I wonder how many hours and hours it took for her to paint all of the tiny bricks on the buildings. Incredible artistic talent!
When I first looked at this documentary I didn't know this was filmed in 2003 and I was sad to hear that she had a stroke. She's a sweet lady who inspired me I love her.
A beautiful film bringing the story of an incredible artist to a wider audience. This film is inspiring on so many levels. May each individual brick be a reminder to us all of the gift of diversity and life . Thank you Mary .
Oh, my how wonderful! Thank you for making this incredible documentary and sharing your mother with the world. What a magnificent artist and human being.
I loved this. How amazing was Mary. What an inspirational lady . I cried watching this. She has left the world a beautiful legacy of wonderful paintings.
What a beautiful tribute to this talented, intelligent, strong, optimistic lady. Her artwork is stunningly beautiful. I am so glad the Royal Academy recognized her while she was alive. Thank you for her story. 🎨
Inspirational. "Royal Academy" was a hoot all those years ago, but this should be a wake up call to those of us (self included) who have become prematurely self pitying and defeatist. My gosh, if we all had half Mary's humour and love of life... Requiescat in Pace.
The detail she captures is amazing, I understand her love of old buildings, they are so full of character and new architecture can’t hold a candle to the old❤️
What a beautiful tribute to your mum. I got tears in my eyes when she has to leave her home and spoke her thoughts when she did. It reminded me of my mother having to leave her (our) home after 77 years. She too had failing health like your mum. Yes, as Mary said, we can never go back. She’s a lovely soul and I wish her happy memories forever. ❤
Mary's work is extraordinary, please print a book with her paintings. The academy and galleries are toffee nosed snobs. She will be famous, like Margaret Ollie and others .
I just loved the two videos about Mary Cane-Honeycutt. She was such a warm and inspirational human being. I'm sure I will return to them again and again.
A beautiful bittersweet but yet uplifting story. So loved it. I didn’t want it to end. I related to this story on so many levels. Thank you for sharing your mother with us.
As an occupational therapist, this was an incredible story and an inspiration to me at 74 with a family history of TIA’s and strokes. I would now call myself an “amateur artist.” Thank you for making this video.
I adore her art. It’s what she chooses to see and the point that it is crumbling and ordinary but every brick is telling a story. There is so much character, so much bravery in this trying to capture what is left before it is completely gone. And so much beauty in its decrepit nature.
What a wonderful tribute to your mother, and also an exceptional painter. I totally agree with her that old architecture has a story that she could see and wanted to tell. Rather like painting the portrait of an elderly person over a younger one. The youthful face may be fresh and/or beautiful but an older face tells more of a story...like a life has been etched into it. Thank you for sharing this 🙏 ❤️
This is one Documentary I am so lucky NOT to have missed..Mary Cane Honeysett is a very real and honest to life individual that we all needed to hear from.. I so admire her thinking and how she applies herself to life.. A great model for others to follow.. Thank you for filming this wonderful person and her art.. It give me hope..we will endure.
Extremely touching documentary. It’s not until you get in your 60’s that you start to wonder how your ending years will be. What a talented artist and special sons to give her such a tribute. She stayed true to her painting style and refused to do anything but what she wanted to do.
This woma'ns body of work is utterly AMAZING! love that this son thought to record the lovely story of his mother the artist. I admire that this woman painted though out raising her three children, a severe handicap with her eyes and did not let this disability or the mundane everyday life get in the way - she painted what she saw out the window when she was homebound.
I have never seen pictures painted like this. I absolutely love the technique, and she is recording her life, and good grief, what an eye she has. One of my professors in college used to say "Draw what you see, not what you think you see" That's good advice and it really helped me to draw better.
Oh, how delightful Mary is in this documentary!🥰 God bless her views of the older brick buildings. They have/had so much character, not often seen in newer buildings. It’s beautiful to see them freshened up but, without changing the original structures. Her attention to every detail in her paintings is so incredible and continued to be, until that unfortunate stroke. She tried so hard, but when you’ve had the gift of perfection, who wants to settle for less. Mary was beautiful inside and out. I’m so glad her sons and families saw to it she was visited, cared for, and well documented. What blessings they have been to her.😇 God bless you all.🙏🏼 Thank you so much for sharing Mary with us viewers. 🥹❤
I'm sad to hear this has happened to Mary, my heart breaks for you darling, so unfair lovely. I love your new home, and I see you have a lovely family. My mother said the worst thing about getting older is just that !! I'm so glad they accepted her painting, she loved you so much 💗 💓 💖
Wow! Her work is absolutely AMAZING…just goes to show the talent that never gets noticed and others who can’t draw or paint are given the title of an artist and given art exhibitions…I am completely mesmerised by her work! It draws you in!
A GREAT ARTIST WHOSE TALENT WILL TOUCH THE HEARTS OF PEOPLE FOR GENERATIONS TO COME. THANK YOU, MARY, FOR EVERYTHING YOU HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO OUR WORLD.
I loved her story, her art and her vibrant, gentle personality. She was so interesting. A lady worth listening to. Her paintings will carry her story of forgotten times into future lives.❤
An absolutely wonderful story about a phenomenal woman. What an inspiration she is! She tried to always see the humour in her misfortune. I loved this film and it’s impact will stay with me for a long long time. Thank you.
What a lovely story you have shared with all of us. Your mother was a sweet person and such an accomplished artist. Thank you for this precious story about your mum.
I just happened upon this beautiful documentary while watching beginner art videos. I decided to watch and wow! I'm so blown away by her amazing story told so so well by her son. I just have to say her art may not be exactly the same but it will still have her character. I love her and so jealous of her wonderful skills. I'm in my late sixties and aspiring to do art. So she is just so amazing to me and her work is just stunning.
I found this lady so interesting, what wonderful story. The Royal academy should give her work a solo exhibition .
Oh that would be really wonderful and I think she'd be there in spirit if not in person
It is difficult for elders to move…The Lord be with her.
They would rather have sharks in tanks.
What a sweet lady and loving, supportive children!❤
Such a nice talented lady. I would love to sit and to her. All the pain she she suffered when moving had to be hard. The Lord will be with herk

I do believe all who saw these documentaries fell in love with Mary. Oh, what a gal! I feel blessed to come upon the videos.
I just loved her sense of humor!!
Arizona woman artist in love with her too!
Love the way she says she is not an artist, cause she is so clearly one. A true artist.
Not only her art but her personality is one of an artist. You know what art is, in your heart of hearts. She is precious!

Amen! I am turning 70 and am a full time artist… I have often wondered how long I will be able to paint and draw… for now it is a wonderful life!

Yes, she’s gone. You might want to rewatch the film.

She's an exceptional artist and ought to recognised as one. She's a modern day Lowery with a photorealistic eye. A wonderful lady too ❤
I thought of Lowery as well!
What an incredible artist and a warm hearted documentary, very glad that it appeared on my suggestions

Ms. Mary took realism to a whole other dimension. Loved the story.
What a wonderful tribute to his mom and the incredible artist she was
You’ve blessed many people by sharing Mary’s story. Both of you are an inspiration. Thank you for your important work.
Thank you so much!
Captivating documentary, Mary was so stoic. No self-pity or complaint, what a star. Thank you for sharing, not least to see her beautiful art work.
Thank you for making and sharing this film. So beautifully put together.
And a fascinating story.

Great admiration for Mary Cane-Honeysett: I see her work as painterly, not merely 'photographic', going beyond the surface.
A beautiful film thank you. Mary was a true artist who painted for the joy of doing just that. She leaves a wonderful legacy. ❤
What a beautiful documentary of a life well lived, children well raised, and a mother well loved.

Superb film, how she shines thru, what a great woman. May she rest in peace.
Just admirable…this woman did what I’d thought of once. Great minds travel…
The folds in a sweater, the cracks in a single brick, the peeling paint on a wall, the skewed curtains in a window. So wonderful!
How proud you must be of your mom. What a remarkable woman.

Thank you for making the two videos about your mother. I couldn't help love her! So warm and such an inspiration .
Extremely touching documentary. It’s not until you get in your 60’s that you start to wonder how your ending years will be. What a talented artist and special sons to give her such a tribute. She stayed true to her painting style and refused to do anything but what she wanted to do.

Thank you!

This is proof that seniors have alot to contribute. Remarkable lady and indeed an artist and historian.
Oh how wonderful that they finally hung one of her paintings!! She did figures so well.

I held it together the whole video until I saw her last painting! Then I lost it! What a beautiful soul
I loved her story, her art and her vibrant, gentle personality. She was so interesting. A lady worth listening to. Her paintings will carry her story of forgotten times into future lives.❤
Fantastic movie Tony, this really captures the essence of her xx
An absolutely wonderful story about a phenomenal woman. What an inspiration she is! She tried to always see the humour in her misfortune. I loved this film and it’s impact will stay with me for a long long time. Thank you.
Thanks for the wonderful portrait of your mom. Lovely lady with a great attitude. I'm happy she got into the Academy. She was a great artist!
What a lovely story you have shared with all of us. Your mother was a sweet person and such an accomplished artist. Thank you for this precious story about your mum.
Thank you so much!
