Since there are three version of the Oticon Real, I think a video on what each level does would be of interest to those deciding which model to buy.

I'm being fitted for mine tomorrow! First time hearing aids purchase and have been listening to and watching your videos for a couple of months now. You've helped me quite a bit in questions to ask and my doctor and she watches your videos as well. I'm looking forward to seeing oops hearing them in real world application. I'm going to ask her about that custom ear mold as well. Thanks again Dr. Cliff

Thanks very much for the review! Your videos have been extremely helpful to me.
I'm a first-time hearing aid user with mild High-Frequency hearing loss. I recently completed around 30 days of a trial with the More 1. I'm now on day 9 of a trial of the Real 1. My audiologist follows Best Practices and uses Real Ear Measurement.
Concerning the new features of the Real 1:
    - Very surprisingly, handling is more sensitive with the Real 1 causing me to hear more static, which is triggered more easily in both the right and left hearing aids. I take my glasses off and on many times throughout the day, which is one reason I notice this. For me, the new handling feature clearly does not work at all. I wonder if the handling feature is perhaps not turned on. I've informed my audiologist about this problem, but since her practice does not allow remote changes, she'll have to check this out when I next see her in 2 weeks.
    - In my limited exposure to wind conditions, I was easily able to carry on a conversation outside without being bothered by wind noise. I believe this is an improvement over the More 1, but I really can't say for sure. I don't know if this is related, but from inside the house, I seem to hear more of the outside wind and rustling tree noise than with the More 1.
    - So far, I can't tell if the Sudden Noise reduction feature is working or not. I think I would have to do a side-by-side comparison to know.
All that said, I really like both the More 1 and Real 1. The improved sounds I hear with both are very natural.

Glad to hear you are having good results with your hearing aids. I’m trialing the More 1right now and I am wondering if it is worth upgrading it to the Real 1? Did you notice an improvement with clarity? I would appreciate any input you could provide.

    • @barney9997
      @barney9997 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@sandyscott2150 Hi Sandy. For me, I'm planning to go with the Real 1 even though there's an increased cost of $220 ($80 because Oticon raised their prices plus $140 for the Real 1 fitting fee). One reason that influenced me is because the Real 1 has the latest technology. And although the Real 1 improved handling feature is not currently working for me, I think that can be corrected. Also, I feel like the Sudden Noise is reduced a bit and wind handling seems better. To verify, I wish I could do a side-by-side comparison of the new features, but I trust that those new features are an actual improvement and not my imagination.
As for improved clarity, I believe the Real 1 has better clarity than the More 1 overall, but that could very well be due to some minor tweaking that my audiologist did when I went from the More 1 to the Real 1.
By far the biggest change that I noticed with the Real 1 is that I'm clearly hearing more sounds, but again, that's probably as a result of the minor tweaks my audiologist made. At first, it was like the first time I put on hearing aids, but I quickly adapted after a couple of days. Overall, I believe I hear better with the Real 1 and I like the clarity of more sounds, which sound very natural.
I don't think you can go wrong with either the More 1 or Real 1. If the Real 1 wasn't available, I would have bought the More 1.
      I hope this helps!

@@sandyscott2150 You're very welcome. Sorry to hear returning the More 1 will be a hassle for you. I guess I'm very fortunate that my audiologist made it completely hassle-free to switch from the More 1 to the Real 1.

Today for the first time I wore the Real 1 while playing pickleball outdoors in fairly windy conditions. They performed really well. Very natural with great clarity. I didn't really even hear the wind, even though the wind was greatly affecting the pickleball. At worst the wind was very, very minimal background noise, if I heard it at all. Also, I thought the loud (some say obnoxious) sound of the pickleball hitting the paddle would be heightened, but that wasn't the case at all. The sounds all seemed proportionately correct, natural, and very clear. I was very impressed.

Getting hearing aids for the first time. 59 years old. Mild to moderate hearing loss. Tilted heavily toward loss at high frequency. Going to an audiologist for advice, purchase and all around assistance. Question: Generally is it better to get newest model ( example Oticon Real ) at lowest level offered OR lower model ( Ex Oticon Zircon 1 ) at highest level. Probably not as simple as that I realize but wondered what you might say. Sean O'D

It has been several years since I got my Oticon Agil Pro HAs and they have worked well for me. On this I noticed with the Oticon Streamer is it is not Stereo. There is no separation to one ear or the other when I stream to the HAs by Bluetooth through the Streamer. I proved this by streaming from a WEB site which tests for this. I found the Phonak Paradise Life versions did provide stereo separation, but found the sound would drift over time to one side. I would like to know if the new Oticon Real and the Phonak Lumity provide stereo and don't have drifting to one side issues. This was very evident when listening to streamed audio books.
Thank you very much for providing a great TH-cam learning site!!!

Thanks Cliff. The Real gives me hope for my future devices. I ride bikes a lot, usually 3 plus times a week. I listen to music streaming through my current Oticons when riding but the wind noise often forces me to mute aids which makes it difficult when meeting another person on the trail. AND of course I have an Android so location of my phone on my person and "talking to Google" for commands is an ongoing struggle.

I tried these out in the audiologist's office, but not in a noisy environment or outside. The difference in my hearing was instantly noticeable. But, I still haven't committed to buying them because $6,000.00 a pair is so expensive. I was floored by the price. Now I'm wondering if it's worth trying something less expensive first. This is a very frustrating product to research and shop.

I am leaning towards these new Oticon Reals and desperately want to get rid of the batteries and of course hear better. My lowest hearing score is 60 and it just fits according to your charts. I wonder why no one (two technicians) do not do a hearing test once they set up your hearing aids. My tech has a someone loud and very clear voice so I cannot tell how the hearing aids are working in her office. What is the reason for not going back into the box and do a hearing test to make sure the hearing aids are doing a good job? I have two people that I cannot hear, a husband (and I know there is a joke there) and a grandson. They both have low tone voices.

I actually have the first ones my audi got in. I just lucked out and needed to replace my old Gen 1 Oticon Opens and walked in at the right time. Didn't even know these were out. I have had them for a little over 2 weeks now. I have to say the difference is absolutely stunning. I know there have been several updates from my old pair, but still, wow! The quality of speech recognition is so much better. Additionally I was sensitive to soft sharp sounds. Computer keyboards and dishes being put away were the worst. No issues at all now. The only question I have at this point is if the ConnectClip would work well on my Teams calls at work from my PC. Not cheap to find out. But yes, a happy, happy user here.

    Hello Dr. Cliff:
I've been enjoying your videos, and have liked and subscribed. They're very informative and detailed.
However one very important thing (to me) that you don't cover is:
How do these sound when listening to music ??
(not Streaming but listening to speakers in a high-quality home audio system)? Are they clear, clean and distortion-free doing that ?
I have been wearing Phonak Audeo Paradise HAs fror the past 9 years, and with them enjoying my high-quality audio system - I hear full range (to 8Khz), clean and distortion-free with the HAs. I have heavy mid & HF loss, and the HAs bring back the midrange and treble in the music nicely and lets me continue to enjoy my music.
But now they are starting to go bad, so I need to replace them. I understand that Widex Moments are highly regarded for music - but what about these Oticons? They interest me because I prefer a 312 battery, and it doesn't look like the Widex have that option.
    Thank you...

I find it really interesting that you rate Oticon highly for achieving high-frequency gain. This isn't something they've been known for in the past due to substandard feedback management. I'm guessing all the additional gain handles in the high-frequencies and new feedback management technology has made a difference. I really wanted to hear more about their impulse noise reduction as their whitepaper promised much better performance than competitors and for people working in trades it can be the difference between hearing aids being worn or not. If you could a demo of this, it'd be appreciated.

The High Frequency amplification has been good since the More hearing aids. Nothing to do with extra gain handles. I've been able to measure this consistently with Real Ear Measurement. The SuddenSound stabilizer seems to be very similar to other impulse noise reduction programs I've tested.

The scenario I'm describing is when I'm sitting in a restaurant and I'm trying to talk to the person in front of me, but it feels like it's picking up so much noise that I have trouble interpreting speech. 2nd scenario is if I'm in a grocery store and it's picking up a lot of noise as well. Getting ready to start looking for a new pair and might be nice to consider ones that are future compatible, if they're starting tho make their way onto the market...just not sure what specs to keep an eye out for that would indicate that? Thanks for any intel!

I really enjoyed the video on Oticon Real - including the geek elements as I am a retired physicist. The Spatial Noise Management Feature (binaural squelch) must mean the hearing aids communicate with each other. I use a CROS. Does that feature work with a CROS where the one "good" hearing aid must process both inputs?

I have the miniRITE and i despise the sound stabilizer to the core of my being. It's only been two weeks, but talking too loudly or enthusiastically causes an awful glitch sound because it's trying to flatten the levels. Listening to music makes everything sound flat, or wildly oscillate because it's trying so hard to compensate. Being in a noisy bar was actual torture because the hearing aids essentially freaked out

I know with United Healthcare Insurance, they only pay for Level 2 or 3 Oticon hearing aids. If you choose Tier 1 hearing aids, you have to pay for it out of your own pocket. That's what I had to do with my Opn 1 hearing aids. I'm currently trying out the Oticon More 2 so I can take advantage of the insurance. However, it seems like the sound quality isn't as good as the Tier 1 levels. I may try out the Oticon Real hearing aids and see if there's a difference between the More and Real models. Good luck!

Not sure if mine is defective or if they’re all like this but I struggle to hear and or understand what people are saying most of the time. Being that the microphones are behind the ear, they really only pick up the sound that’s really loud or behind me well, even with the speech enhancement mode turned on. If someone is standing next to or behind me I can usually hear them but if they’re in front of me it’s very difficult. I also get a TREMENDOUS amount of feedback and background noise that just makes me rather not wear a hearing aid and to top it off it always sounds like a tin can. I can barely hear my phone calls or music, even with the microphones turned off and my media volume all the way up in my iPhone, the low mid high frequency decibel controls in the app are useless because they don’t change anything. My opinion on this hearing aid is that it’s inconsistent and for $3400 I would expect the sound quality to at least be up to par with an apple air pod. Not to mention it is incredibly uncomfortable to wear with glasses. I will be returning this hearing aid and going with an in the ear model that will work better with my glasses and hopefully perform better.
I have mild to severe hearing loss in my left ear and suffer from tinnitus. I wear one hearing aid, in my left ear.
Anyone with similar results or experiences?

    • @iainnorquay5371
      @iainnorquay5371 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I only sell RITC because an ITC causes a hearing loss in and of itself by physically blocking your ear canal. The RITC uses domes which allow natural as well as amplified sound into your ear so less occlusion and better clarity. The new REAL has faster ''Attack and Release '' times which makes listening in background noise less tiresome. When you have a hearing loss, less tiresome is much better.
