Farmer's Market Prep: Signage Ideas & Collecting Payment

- Our first farmers market is just a bit over a week away! To have a successful farmer's market, there's some preparation to be had. We are expecting 1,600 people to walk through on opening day. That means I need to make sure I've got my signage up, I have clear pricing, and I have an easy way to collect payment. In this video, I discuss all of these things.

Looks great! I don’t have flowers either but luckily I also sell jams,jellies, etc so hopefully it will get me through the beginning of markets. Lots of people still use cash here in small town Midwest but it is getting easier with so many ways to pay now.
also small midwest town here. definitely have to keep cash on hand unfortunately and it is such a hassle! i tried offering online payment last year and no one used it, but i like having it as an option!

I would reuse the box the letter board came in as a storage/display box.
One thing I am considering as a way to grow my email list from my local farmer's market (that doesn't start until the beginning of June) is to offer a different gift each week to go to the first or tenth person who asks for it with the gift info being emailed out via the email list two days before each market. For example, one week a free packet of poppy seeds from my garden, another week a free gift card, then maybe 5 free sunflowers or a dinnerplate dahlia, etc. Also, your sign looks really good.

Ooh I was thinking about doing something similar. I was also thinking about posting a giveaway on Facebook marketplace every week and having the person pick it up at the Farmer's Market...to bring more people to the market. And the last idea I had was to post on my Instagram or business Facebook page on the morning of the market fun questions like, "Come to the market and tell me your favorite cartoon character to get a free sunflower. Guess my favorite cartoon character and win a free small bouquet. "
@@michelleodell1236 The interesting thing about your strategy would be to track which approach brings more "buyers" to your booth. I don't have a personal facebook page, only a business one so I can't post on marketplace - fine with me. With the email giveaways, if people show up only looking for the free gift but never buy anything, after a few times I would drop them from the list. These folk aren't worth the effort. Love the idea about guessing your favourite cartoon character but don't give away a free bouquet, that won't get upgraded. A free sunflower will. The gift should be planned for its ability to upsell.
@@LifeatSycamoreRidge Just don't over do the gifts, it's about you making money, not loosing it. It's also about upselling so that you get sales attached to the gift. A free bouquet won't get upgraded.

Glad to hear! No sticker, just a stamp. It’s hard to find a good sticker that has decent adhesive that is sustainable 🙂
I live in the mountains of NC and no matter what I do, Square has a hard time finding a connection. Most customers are pretty understanding when I have to physically put in their numbers. When we order over the phone we have to give our numbers. I wish the tap feature would work but gosh - not lately.
Aww that’s such a shame!! The tap feature has been so great the last time I used it. I have been in some places with wonky service and have missed capturing some payments thinking they went through 😬
So grateful for the contactless payment discussion! But so disappointed sumup isn't available in Canada :(
Oh no!! I know Square is definitely available in Canada. Sometimes I forget I have a global audience so I will keep that in mind for future videos 🙂
